If you like the vibe of jazz, culture, history, nostalgia & great food look no further.... The diner nestled on a corner on the Southside is a perfect hidden treasure. The service is amazing, the recommendations are carefully crafted, & the joy you have after a few minutes of sampling will continuously bring you back for a seat at the counter. The owner is so friendly & gracious....makes you feel like an old family friend.

This restaurant may be small, less than 20 seats, but the food is mighty! I am visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend and looked on Yelp to see what was good to eat around my hotel. As I looked, I saw this was Black owned, and the reviews were wonderful. Well, the food was delicious and the service was great. I ordered fish and grits with scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast. They even had squeeze butter for my toast! I loved the intimate vibe, and the music was a throwback to the last century, that is, 1970s and '80's music that added to the great ambiance. There was a constant stream of people coming in and out. A few stayed and ate, but most got food to go. All I want to say is that this spot was pretty on and poppin'. This is definitely a restaurant that I will visit again!

We have driven by this place countless times and have always said, "we have to check that place out!". Well, today was the day. Pete greeted us, cooked for us, served us, small chatted with us. An immediate friend, a good human! It said closed on Mondays but it's Monday and they were open! So stop by just in case, even if it says closed. Food was 10/10. We got the breakfast sandwich on white bread as well as on a bagel, both with home fries. I'm not even usually a bacon or pepper kind girl, but today my mind and my taste buds were changed. I can't wait to go back and try more! Thanks Pete!

Quintessential Pittsburgh neighborhood vibes! Pete is very friendly and even when he's running it as a one-man show, food comes out quick. We got the sausage breakfast sandwich, side of pancakes, and a build-your-own omelette. Everything was great!

A quaint diner tucked away on Pittsburgh's Southside but very worth the visit. When you enter the space you are immediately greeted by the smiling owner Pete. He always offers great conversation in addition to the great food. During my last visit I had the Pete's Rise and Shine breakfast. The meal was meat of your choice, eggs your way, a choice of homefries hash browns or grits and your choice of toast. The meal is a very decent size. The food is also delicious. The homefries were my favorite. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Beverages are all bottled with the exception of tea and coffee. The only downsize is that the space is extremely small. Seating is very close together. I'm a plus size woman and had I not been sitting with family during my different visits I would have felt a little uncomfortable. I did notice though that during this visit there is now outside seating available that offers a little more space. Seating aside would that deter me from retiring. Absolutely not because the food is that good. If you want a cook home style breakfast meal visit Gabriela's.

It's a smash burger so if you're hungry, maybe get a double the onions that come with it are grilled, which was a nice surprise and the sauce they put on the burger was really good. The hotdog had a nice snap to it which I don't care either way, but I know some people are big on that the chili had no beans which is the only way to have it when it comes to a hotdog or french fries and it's made by the local restaurant up the street brothMonger. Everything is made fresh to order even the fries. And the chocolate milkshake was made with actual chocolate ice cream same with vanilla and strawberry. I'll definitely be back to try the onion rings because they looked delicious and served with ranch from a local spot.

There was a friendly gal at the door taking names and numbers. I could hardly believe the wait time but decided to put down my name and do a little window shopping during the wait. We were eventually called and texted to let us know our table was ready. Our table was in the very back corner, next to a group of girls loudly talking about their drunken escapades the night before. It was entertaining to say the least. Our server was super friendly and accommodating to dietary restrictions/modifications. I ordered a Turkish Benedict on gluten free toast.... So. Good. Amazing flavors. My daughter got the croissant avocado toast which she loved. I also got a pistachio latte and was pleasantly surprised to see the used pistachio butter and not a syrup. It was lovely. I had to keep my child from drinking it all! While the wait was long, it was definitely worth it. The space is smaller than I imagined. The food came out fast for how packed it was. The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. It's pretty popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it moves pretty quick. The menu focuses heavily on crepes and French toast, and they do both very well. I went for a savory crepe that was loaded with eggs and topped with a rich sauce and diced vegetables. It came with a side of fresh fruit which was a nice touch. We also ordered a sweet crepe to share. It was beautifully presented with chocolate drizzle, berry sauce, and a massive pile of whipped cream. The coffee is solid too. But the star of the show for me is the Shakshouka. I have gotten it the last 2 times I went. You also have to try their Dirty Chai. My only critique is the hostess at the front. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
