This place might be a hidden gem but it seems it had undergone a few cosmetic changes after looking through photos. I'll address the elephant in the room, the space is small and is not winning any decorating awards. Its cluttered and could use a deep clean for sure. It doesn't seem to have permanently affixed features. He utilizes a large portable coffee pot and warmers and other beverages are all bottled. The cooking area is in a back room that is not visible. There is a simple single use bathroom back a hallway that is lined with extra chairs. There's a tv that played jazz so that was nice to have a little background music. Now the food. I have the waffle breakfast sandwhich with a hashbrown. The hashbrown was a standard hashbrown like from fast food places. He did add some sort of seasoning on top. The waffle sandwich was a bacon, egg and cheese. it was filling. The waffle was soft, not crispy on the edges, but I didn't mind. It overall gives the feeling of a homecooked breakfast. My friends ordered an omelet and a sandwich with homefries. i can't speak to the taste myself but I didn't hear any complaints. The owner is a funny guy. I feel if he had a busier day he might be overwhelmed by him self. He took an order from one table, then made it. then took the order from another table, then cooked it. So on and so forth. He doesn't seem to burden himself with taking multiple tables orders a the same time and that might be for the best since he was alone. That said, there could be a bit of a wait for someone walking in to be greeted and sat down with a menu. All in all, if you look past the the cosmetics of it all the food is food. Visiting my hometown area of Pittsburgh this week - and I'm staying near Station Square. I wanted a more "neighborhood" breakfast experience instead of your typical hotel or large restaurant spot, and I found Chace's Cafe' on East Carson Street on the South Side. And I got exactly what I wanted. When you walk into this restaurant, it is as down-home as you can get. Appears to be a one-man show, and this man does it well -- and with pride. Rightfully so! It was enjoyable, sitting at the table and watching clients come in, many familiar to him. Such a comfortable neighborhood vibe. Jazz music, playing, everything you need at your table. I ordered an omelette with hashbrowns, my daughter ordered eggs and sausage with hashbrowns. Our host navigated the bustle of clients coming in for take out and dine in, while making sure we have everything we needed and cooking our breakfast to perfection. My omelette had fresh spinach, bacon, and cheddar. As you can see in the photo, it was presented in an extremely appetizing way. The hashbrowns had a nice seasoning. Although you could call this "diner food", it was not greasy. Ingredients were of quality. So this was one of those spur of the moment spots because we were desperate for brunch. This is a tiny restaurant with a lot heart and a soul based in jazz. Fantastic breakfast food. Wife got 3 fried eggs with home fries and I got the vegetable omelette with home fries. Exactly what we needed for an early morning pick me up. Once we smelled what the ladies sitting in with us ordered we had high expectations. This restaurant may be small, less than 20 seats, but the food is mighty! I am visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend and looked on Yelp to see what was good to eat around my hotel. As I looked, I saw this was Black owned, and the reviews were wonderful. Well, the food was delicious and the service was great. I ordered fish and grits with scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast. They even had squeeze butter for my toast! I loved the intimate vibe, and the music was a throwback to the last century, that is, 1970s and '80's music that added to the great ambiance. There was a constant stream of people coming in and out. A few stayed and ate, but most got food to go. All I want to say is that this spot was pretty on and poppin'. We have driven by this place countless times and have always said, "we have to check that place out!". Well, today was the day. Pete greeted us, cooked for us, served us, small chatted with us. An immediate friend, a good human! It said closed on Mondays but it's Monday and they were open! So stop by just in case, even if it says closed. Food was 10/10. We got the breakfast sandwich on white bread as well as on a bagel, both with home fries. I'm not even usually a bacon or pepper kind girl, but today my mind and my taste buds were changed. A quaint diner tucked away on Pittsburgh's Southside but very worth the visit. When you enter the space you are immediately greeted by the smiling owner Pete. He always offers great conversation in addition to the great food. During my last visit I had the Pete's Rise and Shine breakfast. The meal was meat of your choice, eggs your way, a choice of homefries hash browns or grits and your choice of toast. The meal is a very decent size. The food is also delicious. The homefries were my favorite. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Beverages are all bottled with the exception of tea and coffee. The only downsize is that the space is extremely small. Seating is very close together. I'm a plus size woman and had I not been sitting with family during my different visits I would have felt a little uncomfortable. I did notice though that during this visit there is now outside seating available that offers a little more space. Seating aside would that deter me from retiring. Great little diner! I used to work near Gabriella's and always enjoyed the special treat of the Greek breakfast sandwich. Gyro meat, egg, feta - all in a delicious pita. So good! I stopped back in (for the first time in a long time) and learned that while the ownership has changed the sandwich hasn't! Pete was so friendly and made a great sandwich, fries, and breakfast platter for us. There always coffee, hot and iced tea, and there is a cooler with beverages as well. The shop is tiny, but has seating for over 10 between the counter and two bar areas. The menu has so many options - breakfast and lunch. My husband and i had an amazing experience at Gabriella's. We stopped in for a late breakfast. He ordered the shrimp & grits. I went with a brrakfast burrito which also comes with a hash brown on the side. The burrito is huge and the total is less than $9. My husband's shrimp and grits literally melted in my mouth. Probably the best shrimp & grits I've had at a resturaunt and I've tried a lot of yuppie brunch spots. My only issue was my burrito was only supposed to have eggs, meat & vegetables. It also had lettuce and tomato on it which i found odd. I took it off and didn't say anything because it was still good. We were treated with extreme kindness and hospitality here. The menu options are great and they also have daily specials. On the day we went, at least 7 specials were offered. This place is a gem, a diamond in the rough. Excellent food, excellent friendly service. Hours are 5am-3pm monday-Friday. Inside there's a few counters to sit at and enjoy. Breakfast all day. Highly recommend. EXCELLENT!!! I have had breakfast at 100's of different restaurants and this place ranks in the top 3...yes, TOP 3!!!! This is a very small restaurant, but you can always get the food to go. I stayed and it gave me the feeling of eating breakfast on a Saturday morning with my family around the kitchen table. I had the 3 egg omelet with grits and rye toast.....wonderful! Small, clean, little, family owned and operated. I stopped here for breakfast as I waited for my car to get fixed and I was delighted to have a good breakfast for what I paid. I hung out for about an hour, ownership was friendly with every customer and clearly happy to serve their repeat customers. This place is perfect to pick up a quick lunch, or breakfast on the go as the name eludes to. My favorite part of this place is that the prices aren't trying to be anything more than fair and the chef/staff is more than willing to make any substitutions or alterations to your order for you without a problem. I mean, this isn't going to be the best you've ever had and it doesn't try to be. It's the equivalent of a to-go diner, but the attitude of the ownership/staff and the variety of options makes this place a reasonable option should you be in the area.
