    Omelets, Hash Browns

Visiting my hometown area of Pittsburgh this week - and I'm staying near Station Square. I wanted a more "neighborhood" breakfast experience instead of your typical hotel or large restaurant spot, and I found Chace's Cafe' on East Carson Street on the South Side. And I got exactly what I wanted. When you walk into this restaurant, it is as down-home as you can get. Appears to be a one-man show, and this man does it well -- and with pride. Rightfully so! It was enjoyable, sitting at the table and watching clients come in, many familiar to him. Such a comfortable neighborhood vibe. Jazz music, playing, everything you need at your table. I ordered an omelette with hashbrowns, my daughter ordered eggs and sausage with hashbrowns. Our host navigated the bustle of clients coming in for take out and dine in, while making sure we have everything we needed and cooking our breakfast to perfection. My omelette had fresh spinach, bacon, and cheddar. As you can see in the photo, it was presented in an extremely appetizing way. The hashbrowns had a nice seasoning. Although you could call this "diner food", it was not greasy. Ingredients were of quality. If you would like to have a breakfast experience where you feel welcome and at home, while being served delicious food efficiently, treated with kindness, Chace's Cafe' is your spot.

If you like the vibe of jazz, culture, history, nostalgia & great food look no further.... The diner nestled on a corner on the Southside is a perfect hidden treasure. The service is amazing, the recommendations are carefully crafted, & the joy you have after a few minutes of sampling will continuously bring you back for a seat at the counter. The owner is so friendly & gracious....makes you feel like an old family friend.

This restaurant may be small, less than 20 seats, but the food is mighty! I am visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend and looked on Yelp to see what was good to eat around my hotel. As I looked, I saw this was Black owned, and the reviews were wonderful. Well, the food was delicious and the service was great. I ordered fish and grits with scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast. They even had squeeze butter for my toast! I loved the intimate vibe, and the music was a throwback to the last century, that is, 1970s and '80's music that added to the great ambiance. There was a constant stream of people coming in and out. A few stayed and ate, but most got food to go. All I want to say is that this spot was pretty on and poppin'. This is definitely a restaurant that I will visit again!

We have driven by this place countless times and have always said, "we have to check that place out!". Well, today was the day. Pete greeted us, cooked for us, served us, small chatted with us. An immediate friend, a good human! It said closed on Mondays but it's Monday and they were open! So stop by just in case, even if it says closed. Food was 10/10. We got the breakfast sandwich on white bread as well as on a bagel, both with home fries. I'm not even usually a bacon or pepper kind girl, but today my mind and my taste buds were changed. I can't wait to go back and try more! Thanks Pete!

Quintessential Pittsburgh neighborhood vibes! Pete is very friendly and even when he's running it as a one-man show, food comes out quick. We got the sausage breakfast sandwich, side of pancakes, and a build-your-own omelette. Everything was great!

Scrambled eggs with cheese, turkey sausage, homefries with onions and green peppers, wheat toast.

A quaint diner tucked away on Pittsburgh's Southside but very worth the visit. When you enter the space you are immediately greeted by the smiling owner Pete. He always offers great conversation in addition to the great food. During my last visit I had the Pete's Rise and Shine breakfast. The meal was meat of your choice, eggs your way, a choice of homefries hash browns or grits and your choice of toast. The meal is a very decent size. The food is also delicious. The homefries were my favorite. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Beverages are all bottled with the exception of tea and coffee. The only downsize is that the space is extremely small. Seating is very close together. I'm a plus size woman and had I not been sitting with family during my different visits I would have felt a little uncomfortable. I did notice though that during this visit there is now outside seating available that offers a little more space. Seating aside would that deter me from retiring. Absolutely not because the food is that good. If you want a cook home style breakfast meal visit Gabriela's.

The chicken had a great flavor and I loved the mushrooms and caramelized onion sauce inside. The potatoes were delish. I was also intrigued by their mac and cheese entree and fried pickled tomatoes. Unfortunately. I'm not from the area and doubt I'll return for these but they sound delicious. Mt friend for the gastro burger without bun. Looked good.

Examples of menu items are chicken and waffles, grits, sandwiches, salads, loaded fries, and wings. I was a customer here once for takeout. One of the owners promptly greeted me, took my order and payment, and made pleasant conversation while I waited for my foods to be cooked. She showed me the cool lit-up selfie spot near the bathroom mirror and door. I ordered the Troomy Chicken Club (grilled chicken tenders, bacon, troomy sauce, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, and onion) with a side of Loaded Fries and also six Whole Wings with my chosen flavor of parmesan. All three foods were very fresh and tasty very good, but I would recommend adding a bit more parmesan to the wings.

The pickle chips with Troomy sauce were perfectly crisp and flavorful, and the loaded fries were a perfect shareable appetizer. I wanted to place a carryout order. I first tried online but there was a glitch somewhere in the system. I called instead. When the phone was answered, the background noise was intense. It was so loud that the employee couldn't hear me. At that point I decided to just go in and order. When I walked into Urban Tap, the noise was almost deafening. Music blaring, voices raised to be heard. No one was using their "inside voices", they couldn't. I sat at the bar to order. I never got waited on. I finally caught the attention of one of the bartenders and was ready to place an order. We leaned towards each other, yelling to try to be heard. I couldn't hear her when she read back my order. I really wasn't sure what I'd be getting. Unfortunately, I did get what I ordered - brunch breads and an order of biscuits. It took quite a while to get food - no surprise there. I checked our food when I got it. Oh Lordy, those biscuits looked good. This southern girl appreciates a good biscuit and did these look good. I got the food to the car and we headed out on the next leg of our adventure. About an hour later, I just had to grab one of those golden, flaky discs. Butter? Jam? Nah, the biscuits looked like they could solo on their own. I took one bite and my eyes flew open - not from the deliciousness, it was because of the sheer amount of salt. That can't be right so I took another small bite. I tried a teeny bite of the next biscuit. Salt. The biscuits were inedible. No, I don't mean that I didn't like the flavor. They contained so much salt that there was no way someone could eat these. That's ok, there was the banana bread French toast. It looked a little dark in color but it never crossed my mind that this might not be normal. I took a bite. It tasted odd, off, something wasn't right. My husband pegged it - it was burned. Before grilling or after? No idea. There were also a couple of donut holes. Not even worthy of a second bite. I also ordered fruit. It was good but still not enough to save the meal from dismal failure. We won't be back .
