However, the current owners named it after its original name (Bigham Tavern) paying homage to its historical value on the Mount. The food is always good (if you like wings, they're known for them) and the brews are always cold. It's a true representation of a Pittsburgh neighborhood with its food, decor, and people. My wife and I arrived in Pittsburgh and wanted a place with excellent food and a great atmosphere to watch the hockey game. Bonus points for being in Mount Washington, which allowed us to ride the Monongahela Incline up and the Duquesne Incline down. Yes it was a bit of a walk but Bigham Tavern was worth it! It was a Monday night, so there was also live music. Crowd was reasonable and we were seated at a comfortable table with a good view of the television. Our waitress was awesome, so patient! Her patience was tested because we don't drink much and wanted to order the food gradually throughout the game. We benefited from happy hour pricing for a tasty pickle dip and glasses of wine. We added some outstanding wings, so many great flavors to choose from! Next phase was an outstanding gluten free pesto and mozzarella pizza! Crust was too good to be true! The game was rough at first but turned around in time for me to order the Big Ham sandwich with a side of kale salad. The sandwich was delicious and served on a pretzel bun. The kale salad was an awesome side dish, tons of flavor! The game kept improving and we enjoyed the rest of it in the bar area with some great fans. Lots of televisions. Great neighborhood vibe! I came here for an office get together in the back room. The front of the tavern was quite active and extremely loud with enthusiastic patrons. I do believe one of our pro teams (hockey) had won that day. Making my way to the back room took a bit of finesse. Once there, it is a pretty large room. We had a wreath making party and appetizers. There were huge tv screens everywhere. The staff that attended to us were pleasant snd efficient. Parking could be an issue. Met up with friends for a birthday celebration on a Monday evening. Bigham Tavern was hopping, the restaurant stayed consistently full and live music was playing in the dining room. Our friends were already seated in the front room when we arrived. Our waiter did a great job with our party of five and even split the checks. I was impressed by the menu. My husband got the smash burger and fried pickles, a staple for every pub and I ordered the mediterranean bowl and deep fried cauliflower. The smash burger and homemade chips were fantastic, I ate his other half for lunch the next day. The fried pickles and cauliflower with dipping sauce was thoroughly enjoyed by the table. My Mediterranean bowl was good... it was missing a grain like quinoa, couscous or rice, it was more like a layered dip. I still had half the bowl when I was done with the pita. I took my leftovers home and added some fresh greens and bread. Delicious!!! Regardless, I really felt like Bigham Tavern cares about quality ingredients and offering good food choices for their customers. It's clear this restaurant is a favorite in Mt. Bighams is probably my favorite place to go for a meal in the Pittsburgh area. It is the best bar food you will ever have. Awesome atmosphere, especially in the summer when the outdoor areas are open. They also have some of the friendliest workers you'll ever come across. I've never had a bad meal here, but some of my favorites are the wings (bt original, hyena, dingo, hot garlic, and cluckin bbq are the best), rueben, pierogies, buffalo chicken dip, and all burgers. Getting their cheeseballs (hot cheese bites) is an absolute must. They go perfectly with their delicious homemade ranch. Great way to start the meal. read more

We came to Bigham on a Saturday night and it was packed, but we were seated immediately outside on the covered patio. I ordered the French onion burger medium well and my son ordered the smokehouse Mac and cheese. Although the flavor of my burger was great, it was very dry and extremely well done. The pretzel bun was very soft and the onions were a nice addition. The smokehouse mac and cheese was rich and creamy and came in a fairly large portion. Lastly, we ordered the wings and I found myself wishing they were crispier. Based on other reviews, I may have just had a so so batch. ‍ The ranch was delicious though. When I first visited Bigham Tavern many years ago, it was for a special event and they made an amazing first impression. So I expected great things when I came back earlier this year...sigh. Back at my first visit, I got the impression that Bigham did a good job separating the general dining crowd from its bar crowd. No such luck when I visited earlier this year. As a result, my party and I had a very hard time speaking to each other during the entire meal. Speaking of my meal: it was fine..and that's it. Most of the food here is bar-style food - fries, nachos, burgers, mac and cheese, flatbreads, etc. I went for something different and got a Corn-itas Bowl - it contained pulled pork, salsa, black beans, avocado, lime crema, and queso, plus a piece of cornbread. Thinking about it makes me sigh (again)...the overall portion was on the smaller side sadly, and the black beans were definitely overcooked (they were quite mushy). Maybe if I'd gotten a fried dish it would have been better, but then again: if it's on the menu, the kitchen should be able to make it. My overall experience was, in a word, disappointing; and all that after dealing with Mount Washington parking to boot. With that in mind, I don't expect to come back to Bigham again soon. read more

We had to spit out the bites we took of the rubbery and off-tasting pierogies and the flatbread pizza was burned almost beyond recognition. Local here who enjoys a local haunt. Staff is super attentive and friendly. Solid bar food and beer is always cold. Taco Tuesday is a go to . . . fish tacos are always tasty, even have a nice kick. Unless you have a high tolerance for high decibels get there early. When crowded the poor acoustics can be overwhelming. It gets LOUD. After seven days in the city, and eating out for lunch and dinner every day, I can say that Bigham Tavern was our *only* disappointing meal in Pittsburgh. The service was uneven -- our server, though cheerful, did not seem to know whether substituting proteins was possible and we were never brought utensils before the meal, so we had to get up to get some while our food went cold. Great food at this restaurant! The inside was a little noisy if you're trying to eat but luckily they have a huge outdoor seating area that's super nice and inviting with string lights and a canopy. I had the Honey Garlic Habanero wings and they were to die for! Side of curly fries and ranch! Amazing! My friend got the pulled pork nachos (The Hill) and it was HUGE! So I can't even imagine how big The Mountain is. We also shared the Buffalo Tots which were very good! They have music or trivia or bingo or something every night, even Monday. They have specials literally every day, and Happy Hour 6-8 I think. They even have gluten free options for our GF friends (chicken tenders, Detroit style pizza, GF crust for "Pizza Monday" special, and marked wing sauces). The wing sauces are many and you can pick one for each order of 6. We really enjoyed the entire experience. Parking is tough look for open spots and walk to the tavern.
