Ginger Sesame Grilled Chicken

We have been to the Urban Tap twice in the last two weeks. Let me say what I love: good quality food and so many beers on tap. We have come for lunch and dinner and both are great. Their beers are excellent; I am an IPA guy and they always have two beers on special. Last time I got a decent IPA, 20 oz worth, for $5 because it was a special. My wife and I split the chicken sandwich and they divided the sandwich and fries on to two plates without asking. Their fries are really good; their fries are fresh cut and perfect. The environment is quiet and not rushed. Service is very good. I can say that we will be regulars here; close location and nothing to tell me to go elsewhere.

Salmon Benedict

Our server was so kind and accommodating, his suggestions were perfect. We sat outside which aren't the most comfortable seats. And with how it spaced on the sidewalk, it can get awkward sometimes if there's alot of pedestrians. Food was pretty good. Got the salmon eggs Benedict and the fried capers were added the perfect texture and flavor I was hoping for. My partner got the short rib huevos rancheros, and the meat was so tender and flavorful. My only disappointment is that the potatoes don't come as a default side. But they were amazing so make sure you order them!

5+ star brunch experience. We visited Pittsburgh as a family of 8, multi-generational. We planned ahead, for Sunday brunch, before our return trip to Cleveland. We were staying Shadyside, and therefore looking for something nearby. Urban Tap received really good reviews, so we made a reservation, a few weeks ahead. We arrived just ahead of the scheduled time, and we were seated right away. Once seated, we were warmly greeted by our server, Brooke. We proceeded to place our drink orders, a combination of cocktails and cocktails. I ordered the Peach Hugo Spritz, which was very tasty. We also ordered the breakfast egg rolls, as an appetizer for the table, along with our entrees orders. BLT, chicken and waffles, crab cake Benedict, and I ordered the Cajan avocado Benedict. Also the menu was very kid-friendly. We ordered a side of waffles and fruit for my 4 year old granddaughter. The egg rolls arrived in a timely manner. Options include with or without bacon. We ordered without bacon, and requested turkey bacon on the side (I don't eat pork or beef, so its nice when there is an alternative option). The egg rolls were expertly prepared, coated in everything bagel seasoning, filled with just the right amount of eggs, peppers and onions, accompanied by a Sriracha maple syrup dipping sauce. 3 to an order, we cut each roll into 3 pieces, which was perfect to share. Our entrees arrived a short time later, huge portions, expertly prepared and great presentation. My Cajun Shrimp Benedict was delicious. Plump shrimp, Cajun hollandaise, smashed avocado, sliced tomato, microgreens, and a perfectly poached egg, on top of a fluffy English muffin, accompanied my redskins potato wedges. There were a lots of elements, but the flavors married perfectly. The sentiment around the table was unanimous. All around, and excellent choice, but best of all service, was outstanding! Shout out to Brooke for the warm welcome, and excellent service. Highly recommend, I would absolutely return!

We came here for brunch with a group of friends. Service was really great and she was really attentive. My boyfriend is always nervous to try chicken and waffles when it's one big chicken breast but he said it was 10/10 and the chicken was juicy and tender. I got the burger which was okay. Server was really sweet when I asked if I could get my egg fried because I forgot to ask prior to ordering. Overall we had a fun time and will be back!

General Tso Cauliflower Tatter Tots

Beautiful and yummy drink specials, really solid food options too, and a cute place overall to meet up for dinner and drinks! The flavors were all on point, with the General Tso Cauliflower tasting absolutely fire and the tater tots being a generous serving and perfectly crispy, but you can't go wrong with really anything here! The sandwiches are big portions and really tasty, and they always have some fun theme or specials going on! With super friendly staff, it's my go to for drinks in the area.

We absolutely loved this place while visiting Pittsburgh! Our Airbnb was within walking distance so we ended up coming here twice. We ordered the wings extra crispy with the Original Tap dry rub and they were so good! We also ordered the mac and cheese to go, it was delicious and a surprisingly big portion. The staff were super friendly both nights and more than happy to let us sample a few beers before figuring out what we liked. There were plenty of seats at the bar, and we were able to walk right up both times. If you're in the area and craving good wings, this is definitely a good spot!

Big Fish on a Little Roll

One of my friends and I grabbed dinner here for 4th of July and it was delicious. Our server was super attentive and made sure we were doing well throughout our time in there. The General Tso cauliflower was delicious, with good flavor and great portions to share. I had the Big fish on a little roll sandwich and it was delicious. We also had an assortment of drinks that were all really good!

Hosted a private event with drinks and appetizers in the back room at the Urban Tap and it was great! $200 to rent the space and we had a great experience ordering appetizers, which were all delicious. I love the Brussels sprouts especially! The pirogies and wings are great, too. This was easy to book and the team at the Urban Tap took great care of us, highly recommend!

We made reservations for yesterday at 11am for four people for their St. Paddy's Day brunch. The brunch items looked really good and fun on their social media. They did text me a few days beforehand stating that they were limiting our time there to 90 minutes due to the demand and I appreciated the heads up. I got there a few minutes before 11am and gave my name for our table. The two people hostess stand just ignored me while they were looking for menus after I gave my name, no "give us a second" or anything. One of them led me to our small booth in the back. The drinks we got were sweet but pretty decent. The food was just okay at best. The potatoes were pretty good and my eggrolls were bland. Our server herself was fairly nice and efficient. We had eaten, gotten our leftover containers, and paid our checks by around noon. They let us do separate checks which was convenient.

Lavender Ginger Spritz (non-alcoholic)

I've been to The Urban Tap before and had good experiences, but this time was not up to par with the rest. I ordered a medium rare filet, but it was nearly well-done when I cut into it. I notified our server, and instead of being offered a new steak or asked if I wanted to order something else, they asked "what do you want me to do about this?" I was a bit taken aback by the response, but I ultimately said that I would just like a new steak. When the next steak came out, it was still a bit overcooked, but I decided to cut my losses and just eat it rather than risk another off-putting interaction. The steak was also brought out without the buttery topping this time, and I received far fewer potatoes. Our server never once checked back in to see if my steak was any better, nor did they ever ask how my friend's food was. The only decent part of our meal were the fries that came with my friend's burger. We were never asked if we needed refills, and our server got a bit of an attitude when we placed two cards down to pay. I will likely not be back again after this experience. It was very disappointing from start to finish.

Bison Burger with Brussels Sprouts Side
Ryan S.

I got the bison burger with brussel sprouts as a side, and both were good (4/5)! The Brussels sprouts were nice and crispy! The burger was juicy, and the bacon gave it a nice crunch! The service was pretty good (4/5). We were there for a few hours catching up and watching a game, and the waitress kept consistently checking in. The interior of the restaurant and bar is nice, and there are plenty of TVs to watch sports games on. It isn't too loud also, so you can still easily have a conversation.

Good morning America espresso martini
Brianna G.

I always forget about this spot, but was in the mood for some trivia and made a reservation! It definitely gets busy on trivia nights and creates a really fun atmosphere!! I ordered the Good Morning America Espresso Martini and WOW. Not only was it stunning but so delicious. It was made with amaretto and had a lovely and rich cherry flavor! I absolutely loved it! Ordered the brussel sprouts app, they're deep fried and so good! And burgers are discounted on Tuesdays from 9-11, so I got the burger with fries! It was solid, and the perfect brain fuel during trivia!

Brussels Sprouts, Side
Felicia Y.

Tbh a hit or miss. I usually get the Brussel sprouts side and it is either nice and crispy or super soggy, greasy, and salty. It also leaves a residue feeling in your mouth. The pro is that the portion is massive and a great deal for $5! The inconsistency with how they come out makes me meh on this place overall.

Reviews are mixed. Many highlight the friendly and attentive service, extensive drink selection, and lively, welcoming atmosphere. The bar food, including tater tots and burgers, is also popular.

The pickled items are all done in house, and menu/kitchen are very thoughtful on how they execute. They do the pickling well, and they incorporate their ingredients into the dishes without making them feel unbalanced. Some specifics: Chicken fried pickles: Great ratio of batter to pickle. Generally, I think execution of pickled spears versus chips is fraught with peril. ButterJoint does these perfectly. These remain excellent and an unequivocal "get again" dish. Crispy chicken sandwich: chicken thighs done in one of the House brines, then battered and fried. This is a generous sandwich with two thighs. The batter is light and perfect and perfectly adherent. Kitchen cooked these pieces perfectly; no overdone portions. The tallow fries served as a side remain excellent, and the serving is very generous. "You can't eat just one." Pork belly sandwich: what a completely fun bite! Generous serving of pork belly, crispy on the outside and melting internally on a perfectly toasted roll. The condiments on this sandwich are perfect. The brunch burger is excellent. The egg is hard cooked so it doesn't come apart on the sandwich. M got the corned beef hash; the brisket on it is absolutely amazing, and there is a very nice grill on the potatoes. The poached egg on top is a complete delight. This is one of the better hashes that I have had. The falafel is fantastic. Well seasoned, perfectly cooked. The goat cheese crust with hot pepper jelly is an unexpected treat. Pickle shrimp are fun. The Mississippi comeback sauce is basically a remolade or maybe big Mac sauce. Would totally have again looking for a little cold shrimpy bite. We have never walked away disappointed by the menu or the kitchen. Good bar program, good draught list. Consistently gracious front of house team. Great for lunch or dinner, couples or families. Highly recommended.

Our meals were delicious but I'm not sure either of us saw the braised chicken; if you see it, send me a message. It was there but again, our meals just seemed very expensive overall at $75 for Mac and cheese with chicken, two potato pancakes, and a prickley-pear lemonade (no refills). GREAT CIDERS, PIZZAS, and VIBES!…read more Tried Threadbare Coder House for the first time last night - I am REALLY late to this party - and it was fantastic! First off, if you're a toddler mom like me, you know a night out with the kids can be more stressful than fun. Threadbare was totally kid friendly and has an amazing corner with giant light bright boards and magnatiles for the kids to play! It was amazing and the most relaxed my husband and I have been out in a long time! Like it was so nice that even if the service and food hadn't been good I would have returned for that feature alone- thank goodness that wasn't the case! We ordered two pizzas - the buffalo chicken and chicken bacon ranch. Both pizzas were sooo good! We especially loved the buffalo chicken! The chicken is a slow cooked braised cider chicken that is so flavorful. The ranch on both pizzas is homemade and herby, and the dough is a homemade sourdough crust which was perfectly crisp and thin. Very well executed. Service was fantastic! We felt very well taken care of, we were given the cookie for the kids on the house and the food and drinks were out quickly. Our favorite cider was probably the tiki which is a seasonal recipe and has a hint of coconut. It was delicious. We also really liked the imperial cherry and guava flavors. The bridge city bubbly was nice but sweet lovers beware - it's very dry. Overall we loved our visit to Threadbare and will be back soon! Our only regret is that we didn't know about it sooner!

I tried the majority of their seasonal offering with the exception of the pumpkin spice as I'm not a fan in general. I really like the spice cider. It is my favorite. I did end up ordering a glass of it. The food options arevery artisan. My husband opted for the meatballs . They are very large, the overall flavoring to him seemed a little blah. I did try them. I found them to be a very moist and thought the flavoring was good. I opted to do the featured flatbread, which was the mac attack. If you've had a famous, fast food chains signature burger with thousand island dressing you will find similarities. I did find the flatbread crust was a little bit to thick for my liking and there was more sauce on it than there was actual meat. It was OK. They have a private lot, which is fantastic as parking is at such a premium in the city.
