The restaurant was decorated fabulous! The staff was nice and friendly. Our waitresses wasn't sure of some of the questions we had but no big deal. The refried beans with cheese, queso on top of the chimichanga, and plantains were amazing! Unfortunately, the carnitas were dry and bland as you can see pictured. The tortilla could have been cooked longer as well. The chorizo was surprisingly spicy and good. The prices seem high but you get a decent amount of meat. We'd go back again and try the brunch menu or another protein. read more

I really liked the food here. Drinks were reduced during Happy Hour ($7 per drink) but I really enjoyed my bowl. Rice can have a bad impact on my glucose but they offer quinoa and it was very good! I got the shredded chicken, cheese, and black beans with my quinoa. My other "ingredient" was chorizo (another protein!). The dish had a bit of spice, mostly from the chorizo, and I ate half for dinner and half the next day. Service was good, no complaints nor was it amazing. The ambiance was pleasant; there is a patio but it was full when we came. Inside was cool and quiet without being a library. We would go back. One of the best things about Shadyside is all the shops and restaurants that are walking distance from living areas. Great night to walk to a Mexican on a Tuesday in April. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The umbrella tables were full so we sat inside at a tall padded bench along the wall. Happy Hour has half off most appetizers weekly drink specials. We chose Queso Con ground beef, house margarita, and a Paloma. Street Tacos: three tacos with your choice of meet. I chose tinga chicken. Comes with refried beans and rice; red sauce and green sauce. The red sauce is very flavorful and I used it all. Their refried beans lack flavor. Hubby ordered Make Your Own Bowl. He chose grilled chicken (asada), black beans, chorizo, quinoa... He loved it. What a great find in the Pitt area! Located in a quaint street, we got served one of the best meals we've had here in Pittsburgh. 3 street taco meal ( chorizo, chicken tinga, ground beef) with a side of Mexican corn and Maduros- sweet plantains. Came with salsas. Chorizo packed a punch with flavors, chicken tinga was well seasoned with a kick, and the ground beef was salted just right. The tortilla was crunchy on the corners and still soft enough. Each taco was filled and they didn't skimp on the meat. The carne asada, well, it was shining right beside the tacos! Our steak- Grilled to perfection and smoked - was amazing. Sides were cauliflower rice and Maduros. Grilled scallions lent a sweeter bite. Chicken tenders and fries from the kids meals were good, but honestly my kids wanted my tacos more. Margarita with tajine rim and raspberry iced teas to cool us down. I got the shrimp fajitas (3.5/5) and a tinga chicken taco (3/5). The shrimp fajitas were good, but I wish there were more shrimp in it. It was a little expensive for what it was. The chicken taco was pretty dry and not super flavorful. Other members of my party got different tacos and liked them better, so I am excited to come back for a taco Tuesday special and get more $2-$3 tacos. We happened to go during happy hour where apps are 1/2 off (minus guac) The Al pastor in the pork was tender, juicy, and flavorful. I was thrown off a bit by the fact that it was on a hoagie bun but it was still tasty The yuca was fried to perfection and not too dry. The plantains were sweet and complemented the rest of the dish well. We asked for chicharrones sub for our nachos. They came out with normal chips and were kind enough to rectify the mistake. This however took the entire time it took us to eat the rest of our food. We had all finished our mains and were sitting around waiting for the nachos to come out. They eventually did but it was with a sprinkling of chicharrones - not a full sub of the chips. Additionally, we asked for it without sour cream and cheese (allergy) and when it came out it looked like parts had some sour cream on it at some point :/. The chicken on the nachos was also dry Nachos were a big disappointment but the torta (4/5) was very tasty. Also be careful if you have an allergy of sorts. read more

This brick and mortar on Ellsworth has seen several businesses come and go over the years and I'm hoping to see longevity for Buenatarde. Mezcal and tacos, what could be better? The mix of coziness and warmth with artisan tequila, and even frozen cocktails, and a twist on Mexican food makes for a long-lasting endeavor. A neighborhood gathering place with friendly service and food and drink that will make your body thank you over and over again. Could've crushed 2 or 3 of these on their own. Perfectly crispy, chicken was delicious and the cheese was just right and not too overwhelming. Tostada fell apart fairly quickly from the moisture of the meat. Would get something else next time. Fries were surprisingly good. Not really crispy but not that flimsy either. Right in the in between. They became addictive after awhile. Wish the serving size was just a touch more. read more

This place is owned by the owners of El Sabor I believe, and I really enjoyed El Sabor, so I decided to give this spot a try. Wow. It did not disappoint! Wayyy better than Chipotle. I got to try their BYO bowl with yellow rice, cheese, yucca bites, sweet plantains, and sweet and spicy chipotle sauce. I also threw in one of their tres leches cake slices. Everything was pretty much perfect, even without a protein! The yucca was perfectly fried and so sweet and flavorful. The yucca was also great and went perfectly with that very balanced, delicious sauce. Even the rice was great! I will say the cheese is a bit rubbery. The tres leches was also amazing. Solid portion, perfect amount of sweetness, drenched in that delicious milk. Very nice. All in all, I highly recommend both this place and El Sabor for the fresh and delicious food they make. read more

I appreciate that they are able to make accommodations for vegetarians as the waitress suggested I swap the original rice with cilantro rice since it isn't cooked in meat stock. It's owned by the same restaurant group that owns El Sabor and it definitely shows in the food and menu. I got the lunch combo with a Burrito and Chile Relleno. The food itself was very good and similar to El Sabor, but the vibe was much more corporate. Everything was well flavored and well executed, especially was a fan of the steak in the burrito, it just felt empty in there though. It is newly opened however and hope it can find its footing as time rolls on. read more

Bring your appetite and friends! This has become my favorite restaurant when I visit Pittsburgh, but we usually carry out. Dining in, early evening on a Thursday in mid-December, my college student and I had wonderful service and the best meal! We started with the nachos, which were the best I've had in years! As always, the carne asada was perfect. The churrasco was as tasty as it was beautiful. The portions were huge and these 3 dishes could easily have fed four. First visit to Buenatarde! I thought it was good! I'd give it a 3.5 if I could! Went with friends and got a table outside - small patio but pretty spacious interior! Very friendly and efficient staff and servers. We ordered margaritas which were good! I had a blood orange marg. I got the bowl with quinoa, tinga chicken, plantains, queso fresco and corn. It was pretty good! I wish you could also get greens as an options because it would make things less heavy and elevate the texture of the dish. My friends got the chimichanga and the shrimp street tacos. Both said it was good! I think it's a little misleading to charge for a protein the way they have it. Just include the lowest option in the price and do the additional few dollars. Anyway, I look forward to returning and trying some other dishes. read more

Cinco de Mayo fun! Che & Greta were an awesome staff! We were seated in a timely manner and the service was nice and accommodating. Loved that the rain held off so we could enjoy the garage door being opened. Such a cute and comfortable stop. We ordered chips, salsa, guacamole, and two queso's for the table to share. The margaritas are quite good, at an about average price. The food was pretty good, but surely a tad overpriced for both portion and quality. Their bowl/plate combos are a step down in quality from Chipotle/Qdoba type places, and is much more expensive. But once again, the food was good, just wished the portions matched the price. Our server was very kind and outside of overly loud music (seriously, it was way too loud, but at least it was a live singer), the ambiance was nice and comfortable! read more

It was in a nice location right on Ellsworth Ave, nice building, relaxing patio, and decorated nicely. The staff was very friendly, especially the young lady of Cuban heritage, sorry I don't recall her name. The menu is not big, but the options are great. I got the Churrasco platter which was super tasty. It had sausage, beef, cbicken, shrimp, cilantro rice, and fried plantains. Wife got shredded chicken tacos. She had one remaining this morning and took it to work and it was still holding up...most tacos die overnight. Finished it off with tres leches cake and coffee and it was great. I came here yesterday around 4:40pm and was able to get a table for six right away. This is where the old Stack'd used to be and I was happy that it's fairly close to me. There's a patio with a few tables for four, a fairly large bar, and a bunch of different tables available. We stayed until around 6:30 or so and it was filling up for the dinner crowd. The prices for happy hour are pretty good. I got a $7 house margarita which was good and a couple of appetizers to share with a friend and those were half off. The quesadilla we got with steak was delicious and filling. The taquitos con queso was a little strange and the cheese inside reminded me of paneer. Our server was very friendly but there seemed to be some miscommunication issues. I asked for my check and so did a couple of other people at the table while one friend asked for another margarita but our server brought out all of our checks at once. Additionally, a friend and I got there first and asked for the house margarita and she brought it out on the rocks without salt or sugar on the rim without giving us options. Later, other friends got the option of frozen or on the rocks and salt or sugar on the rim. Overall, I thought the happy hour pricing was great and that they may just need to work out some kinks with their service. I would come back to try more things on the menu! read more

The food was really good. There were 7 of us and we all had "special" issues. But, all of the dishes were customizable, so that was no problem. Our server was average, at best. We asked questions, if she didn't ask us to repeat it because she wasn't paying attention, then she didn't know the answer. She often didn't know specific ingredients. For example, I have the cilantro gene, and it tastes like soap. I asked if there was cilantro in a dish. She had me repeat it and then said she didn't know-she said the ingredients are written on the menu. Another in our party had a question about beans-she didn't know. We stopped asking questions which is probably what she was hoping for. Our food came out very quickly and everything was done exactly as we ordered. Great food. Service-hmmm... read more

The food was AMAZING, and this is coming from people who are Mexican and live in Mexico! My mother is VERY PICKY and she loved it. The carne asada is TOP NOTCH! The pricing is a little different, with items featuring a "base" price and then an additional charge based on protein/add-on selections (I guess kind of like at Chopt or similar salad bar concept). Happy to see something open in the former Stack'd spot! They have an outdoor patio with umbrellas, and have made the inside of the restaurant very cute. Service has been mediocre both times I've been there but I assume they are just working things out in the early stage of being open. Food is tasty and fresh. The plantains were my favorite part of my meal. They have happy hour specials (half off apps with a few exclusions) and other daily drink specials. Beware of pricing and what you are delivered. We ordered beef nachos listed on board at door for $8, and listed in restroom as $8 during Pirates game. We were delivered nachos grande that were $12. Didn't realize this until the bill was received, though they were very good and substantial. It is plainly written on the menu, but all tacos, bowls and burritos may change price according to the protein you add. Again, it is stated so not a surprise, but it is misleading when looking at reviews and pricing on yelp to see "$10 street tacos" that actually start at $14 and up. This is not a complaint, but a heads up to anyone expecting to pay less. There is now a credit card convenience fee added to bills paid with credit/debit cards. This is common at many restaurants now, but my complaint is the tip guide printed at the bottom of the check includes those fees and tax as well. I understand this is a guide but very misleading. Including these added $4.38 to my $43.79 bill. Service was very attentive though, so. Not a complaint but again a warning for all dining out. The rest of our dinner was average. One of us ordered the street taco with tinga chicken and one ordered carnita burrito. The portion in the taco looked larger than the burrito. We liked the beans and rice served with the tacos much better than the small salad with the burrito. read more
