This was such a fun spot! I go to a lot of tiki bars and this is definitely one of the better ones. The space is actually quite large and the decorations are great. It has such great theming. The big shark on the menu was fun and the shark fins on the menu dictate how strong a drink is on the menu. As someone who does not like strong drinks, this was so helpful. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. This place is pricy and they do add a 20% tip automatically to the bill. I ordered the 'Sandstorm' and my husband got the 'Skull and Bones'. They were both strong but my drink, with 1 shark bin, was very doable and I was able to finish it. Unfortunately, we completely missed the first page of the menu somehow, which is unfortunate, because I actually preferred the drinks on that page. Oh well, our loss. Our server provided courteous service throughout our meal. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Tropical Itch - 2.5 stars - The server recommended a different drink to me, and I unfortunately chose this one instead. This drink contained bourbon, passion fruit, and orange. A plastic backscratcher (yes, really) was also included. I did not like the flavors of this drink so sipped it only slightly. Crab rangoons - 4 stars - Several rangoons had crispy seasoned wonton wrappers, contained lump crab and cream cheese, and were served with sweet-sour sauce. Island Salad - 4.5 stars - This large salad included lettuces, mango, cucumber, carrot, avocado, red onions, jalapeno, queso fresco, wonton, cashew, and ponzu vinaigrette. I liked the fresh flavors of all ingredients except for the spicy jalapeño. Smash Burger - 4 stars - My husband ate this entree. He thought that it was just OK and made a face. I took one bite and thought that it was "good." The burger consisted of a beef patty, onion, pickle, American cheese, and special sauce. On the side were crispy fries. Please note that the business's website says, "For the benefit of our staff, a 20% gratuity is automatically applied to all checks." Holy Hidden Harbor. What a delightful place. I've been waiting about four years to take a trip to Pittsburgh specifically to go to Hidden Harbor. For my spring birthday this year we finally got around to making the trip and it did not disappoint. We were able to walk in at the time of opening and get a table for about 90 minutes before then transferring to the bar when our table was needed for another reservation. Between the four of us in our group I think we tried most everything and it was all fantastic. For food we tried the cucumber salad, crispy Brussels sprouts, vegan poo poo platter, and street noddles. It's had to pick a favorite when it was all sooo good but the noodles were the standout for me. As for drinks, we tried the katoa cove, Maui gold, arbolito, over the reef, toucan tango, sign of the four, Ishmael, and rum king. Everything was worth having, but the katoa cove was the biggest surprise and most unique. I also got a half ounce pour of the specialty Clement private cask rum which was exceptionally complex and tasty. I'm planning my return soon! Really can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! Visited for the first time a few years ago; it's about 6 hours away from home. Not just a great place to get a tiki drink, but the food is very good as well. They have a lot of options that can be turned vegetarian but not in a lame way where you want to switch out the chicken on a burrito and the only option is to put no chicken. They do great things with tofu if you catch my drift. If you're into Christmas bars definitely recommend visiting during that time, even if it's 6 hours away. No regrets. Apparently the staff needs to be retrained on identifying IDs. Was told that my ID is fake, the staff offered no explanation and very rudely kicked out my entire group. I am 25 years old and have been served here in the past with no issue. Very disappointed. This experience was especially concerning given that recent reviews mention poor treatment toward Indian patrons. My group of 7 included friends of mostly Indian and also East Asian descent besides myself, and the abrupt decision to label my valid ID as "fake" felt targeted and inconsistent. After reading other reviews of poor treatment towards Indian guests, my group couldn't help but wonder if denying my ID was simply a convenient excuse to remove our entire group without having to justify it for any nefarious reasons. Easily my favorite place in Pittsburgh to grab a cocktail. If the name isn't a giveaway... I'll tell ya their drinks are tiki themed. These island drinks can make you feel like you're in the beach even as you sit in the cold winters of Pittsburgh. Good luck trying not order every drink on the menu... and if you do you won't be able to do it in one seating because they have some strong ones! Really nice casual bar. The atmosphere is relaxing, and a tad bit more on the intimate side. Great spot for a date night. They had a really vast array of specialty cocktails to choose from which were featured on a shark fin scale. (3 shark fins being very high on the alcohol content scale). Overall the drinks were good, but the Andiamo Lapu tasted more like tequila than rum and didn't have much sweetness to it at all, definitely tasted more like a margarita than a fruity cocktail. But when they brought it out they set it on fire! Which was super cool to see and its presentation was beautiful. If you want more of a fruity drink I recommend the paradise drink which was super light and fruity; you could tell they made it with fresh pineapple juice. All in all beside. It's a really nice spot, but if you have any visual impairments, it might be a skip for you. The lighting inside is super low, making it really hard to see. And if you're looking to take pictures, it's hard to get a good quality picture with the lights so low. However, the low lighting is part of the atmosphere and helps to create that nice relaxing vibe, so it depends what you're up for. One of my favorite bars in Pittsburgh! It's such a fun tiki vibe and everything from the decor to the themed drinks is on point. Rivals some of the best tiki bars I've been to in SF. One of the drinks comes with a backscratcher that you can take home, which I think is so brilliant. There are so many good options on the menu, so it's really hard to decide what to get but I don't think you can go wrong here! Drinks are pretty good -- not too strong. I can't believe I had never been to Hidden Harbor before - a total hidden gem. If you've ever been to Three Dots and a Dash in CHI, this spot will remind you of it. In fact, I asked our helpful bartender, Chris, about the history of this spot and he told us that Three Dots and a Dash is the owner's favorite bar :) They have an awesome happy hour during the week - $8 daiquiris! I had the pineapple daiquiri and it was delish! My partner had the Cuba Libre but it wasn't his favorite - that's ok though! After happy hour ended, I got the Pair o' Sails and it was awesome. My partner had the Buccaneer Grog and he really enjoyed it. The menu has a "key" for potent to extra potent drinks which I thought was a nice heads up. We ordered the chicken dumplings and they were truly nothing like any dumplings I've had before. They are flash fried - crispy on the outside and the filling is so flavorful. We really liked the dipping sauce it came with too. Our bartender, Chris, was really awesome. Very attentive, answered all of our questions and told us all different artists involved with the decor, glassware, etc. The place itself is such a vibe - tiki but not tacky, plants, cool statues. At the urging of a friend, I made a reservation to Hidden Harbor and then my boyfriend and I planned a weekend getaway to be in Pittsburgh for the reservation. I asked a question to Hidden Harbor's email address before placing reservation, and they were quick to respond, which was much appreciated. The reservation process was seamless. When we arrived at Hidden Harbor, we were immediately greeted. We were a little early, but that wasn't a problem and we were seated right away. This ambiance of this place is fresh and great for a winter getaway. It is a great place to evade the snow and let your troubles melt away for the duration of your stay. We had eaten before, and were only here for the much anticipated tiki drinks. I ordered the tropical itch, which came with a back scratcher, and I also got the fer-de-lance. Both were wonderful and I highly recommend. I should have ordered a three dots and a dash to compare how they make it at this tiki bar. This place is adorable. The decor makes you feel like you are in a tropical cafe. The staff is friendly and attentive and they have a covered back patio that is perfect during the warmer months. My one beef is that the prices are high. On my visit, someone in my party got the poke bowl ($18!) and it was tiny. I had the Bahn Mi with tofu and salad.
