We just had a very nice evening at Poulet Bleu. I started off with a tasty old fashioned, garnished with mint and lemon peel with cloves.. different but by great flavor. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious! The baguette had a crispy crust and the salted butter was excellent! My wife had the Sea Bass and loved it. I went to Poulet Bleu for the first time recently with my girlfriends and I was blown away! I was honestly nervous because it is pricier and super hyped up, but it really was SO worth the money & the hype is real! What we got: -Bistro Burger & truffle fries - burger was cooked perfectly and was so tender, flavorful & juicy - and that homemade bun was awesome! the fries were great! -French onion soup - they were able to split this into two bowls for one of my friends and I to try! It was heavenly. I haven't had many French onion soups, but it's the best I've had. -La Vie En Rosé cocktail - delicious & refreshing! -Baguette & homemade butter - we got two of these because it was THAT good. Warm bread & butter is just the best. Could've eaten that butter with a spoon honestly. -Complimentary madeleine cookies because we were celebrating my birthday! there was enough for all of us to have one. they were so soft. And the birthday candle made me so happy!! -Chocolate soufflé - the picture does not do it justice for how BIG it is! It comes with hot chocolate sauce, ice cream, and raspberry sauce. My husband and I made a reservation at Poulet Bleu to celebrate our new jobs and it was an amazing night out and probably the best meal I ever had. I started with the French martini and we shared the baguette, which was great. The space really makes you feel like you're in a cozy, quiet French bistro (even though there was a group that came to the bar upstairs and was pretty rowdy towards the end of our meal). I had the steak frites with truffle fries and my husband got the chef's cut, which was the pork chop when we were there. We also shared the chocolate soufflé and it is a must have -- it's incredible. Wow! I cannot rate this place higher, it is one of the best meals I have ever ate, and if you look I've reviewed a lot of places. The service is incredible, our server was incredibly nice, had recommendations and even gave us a celebratory glass of champagne for our anniversary. The baguette was exactly as you want. But the star of the show was the roasted duck. Crispy and flavorful skin and a perfect medium rare on the inside. The potatoes were cheesy and delicious, and my wife loved her lobster spaghetti. We finally made it to Poulet Bleu after making a resy months in advance. Verdict is the food and service is solid. We arrived for our 7:15 resy and were seated by the corner next to the garage windows. Luckily, it was a warm March evening so it didn't feel cold. Our waiter, Dominic, was helpful with wine pairings. Food wise we ordered: - Olives: A sizable portion of black and green olives. No pit bowl was unusual - Patte: Delightful and one of the better ones I've had - Salad: Fresh with a light vinaigrette - Duck: Delightful cooked and rich. The rhubarb complements it perfectly - Lobster spaghetti: Average--nothing wowed or stood out to me here We were thinking it would be a true French experience, leisurely eating the night away. Dominic had noted the appetizers would come, followed by the salad, then the mains. However, things came out TOO fast. The salad came with the appetizers and our mains were presented to us while we were still working on our salad. My spaghetti cooled a bit while sitting there. One star off for this. Dominic did acknowledge the fast timing and comp'ed our drinks, which was a nice gesture. Not sure what happened that night. Then ordered the Bistro Salad $14 & shareable for 2. So fresh and light. Loved the red wine vinaigrette. The FRIES. O M G. On the menu these are under "LEGUMES" and titled: Truffle Frites. $12 and so worth it + shareable again. The truffle aioli was so yum. For our dinner we both ordered the chicken! Titled Poulet Rǒti on the menu! So flavorful. The best chicken breast I've had. & of course we had to finish with the Chocolate Soufflé! You know they're going for a French restaurant, but maybe that will temper the ever rare French Pittsburgh folks' expectations. We shared the cheese plate, filet mignon with frites, and the soufflé. The filet and frites were cooked perfectly, and the soufflé is a must-order. Both the entrée and dessert felt completely worth it. The cheese plate was good, but for the price, it's probably the one thing we'd skip next time. I had a Kir Royale, which was delightful and a great way to start the meal. We were seated on the enclosed front patio with the fountain, which made for a really lovely atmosphere. While nothing special was done to acknowledge my birthday, the service was attentive, friendly, and approachable throughout the evening. I was meeting up with friends in Lawrenceville and stopped at Poulet Bleu for a pre-dinner drink. At 6pm on a Friday, Poulet Blue was packed. I wasn't that surprised as getting dinner reservations here is challenging. The bar is on the second floor. The first floor feels very Parisian whereas the upstairs reminds me of French Polynesia. Tried the roasted duck, gnocchi and New York strip frites. Everything was well prepared authentic French preparation. The duck was the best plate the three. Only comment was that the finishing salt on both the gnocchi and fries was way too much. Staff was very nice and the location is very cool. Looks like Casis met Miami and they had a child. read more

The restaurant is beautiful, especially with a fountain centered in what used to be the outdoor patio, now an enclosed dining room. We were seated right behind the host stand near the door, which kept being left open and unfortunately let a lot of cold air despite overhead heaters. Our waiter was attentive and patient as we yapped for three hours, but the overall service felt overwhelmed as they were behind with reserved seatings and my friend's non-alcoholic drink took 15-20 minutes to arrive. My wife and I say yes "Oui" to Poulet Bleu. We were excited to see this restaurant re-open. It took us a while to get a reservation, but the garden patio was worth it. Starting out, we ordered a delicious cheese plate with Brie, blue and Gouda paired with baguette slices, jam, almonds and a honeycomb. We split a bottle of red wine recommended by our server. While the name escapes me, it paired excellently with our dinner. My wife ordered the chicken (Poulet Roti) and I ordered the duck. French preparation of chicken is inspired and Poulet Bleu certainly delivered. The breast and thigh pieces were tender, juicy and herby, served with a rich truffle infused stuffing and delicious vegetable medley with more truffles. The savory duck breast was marvel of textures, from the crispness of the skin to the fatty, steak like breast meat itself, moist and delicious. The endive pairing and green olive purée provided a crunchy and salty balance to the whole experience. Finally, we ordered the chocolate soufflé for dessert. A beautifully rich, fluffy and decadent pastry served with vanilla ice crème and fruit purée, it was pure heaven. Easily could be shared between 4 people. So garlicky and delicious!!! The escargot was full of butter and herbs. Our baguette was fresh out of the oven. For an entree, I had the duck. Hands down the best duck I've had! Cooked to perfection and crispy skin!! The carrots are the best in Pittsburgh. The crème fraiche is the perfect accompaniment. The aligot potatoes had a cheese pull. Potatoes with a cheese pull are beyond extraordinary. Soufflé for dessert is a must. It's huge, delicious, and right out of the oven. They ask that you order all parts of your meal at once, so it's good to go in with an idea of what you want to eat. I haven't been to Poulet Bleu since 2021. I was excited when they announced their reopening, and it did not disappoint!! The restaurant sits on Penn Avenue in Lawrenceville smack dab in between two brick buildings. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary bistro, but inside there's charm and personality! They enclosed the front porch so there's extra space to dine, and it's heated for the winter months. The fountain in the middle and the lighted lanterns make the ambiance of this restaurant perfection. In the back, you must walk past the bar, and you are welcomed by an open kitchen with seating directly in front. It was an experience in itself watching how the entire kitchen staff operated. Some renovations were made (like the floor) but overall the restaurant still has the utmost charm. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. The service was a little slower than preferred, but we didn't sit super long in between courses. The restaurant was very busy so it was natural for there to be a little bit of a wait. Here is what we ordered: [French Onion Soup]: This was the best soup I've ever had. The herbs de Provence spices made this perfection. [Steak Tartare]: This was something out of my comfort zone, and I didn't love it. There was a really strong dill and mustard flavor that I didn't enjoy, but my husband did like it. [Roasted Duck]: My husband really enjoyed this dish! [Poulet Roti]: The chicken was the most tender I've ever had. The dish was accompanied with truffle stuffing. I wish the truffle taste was stronger and there was more, but I completely devoured my meal. [Chocolate Souffle]: This dessert was an absolute delight. We were very excited to try poulet bleu since it reopened. We started with escargot. The sauce was good in flavoring but it was TOO SALTY. The escargot tasted like it was purchased from Whole Foods. I have studied abroad in Paris and had a lot of French cuisine. Very disappointing start. Then we both got the filet mignon with frites. The steak was cooked very nicely. But everything was so SALTY even the frites. Please ask your chef to not put that much salt on the food. It destroys the natural flavoring of the food.
