I had very low expectations when I learned that I'd be attending a work dinner here and the only vegan option on the menu was "beef bolognese/ricotta/parmesan rigatoni" that could be made vegan by request, in advance. Translation: I would be eating an overpriced pile of pasta with red sauce for dinner. What I wasn't ready for, though, was how bad the food would be in general and how rigid the staff would be in response to people who asked for anything other than what they planned to serve. Specific examples included a colleague who asked for a house salad because the menu we were given said Caesar salad or house salad. Nope, sorry. Only the sole vegan (yours truly) was allowed to have a house salad--everyone else was stuck with Caesar salad. They caved on that after an uncomfortable minute where my colleague was like, huh? They brought her a special made house salad 10 minutes later. I would have given her half of mine--it wasn't that good. The other example was when we asked for salt and it took forever to come out. It wasn't in a shaker, just a tiny bowl so we had to put our fingers in it to use it. I guess nobody had ever told them that their caramelized white bean dip had zero flavor or asked for salt before. It was really bad, and couldn't be fixed even with a pinch of salt from the tiny special salt bowl. My main dish was exactly as I expected--pasta with red sauce (blech), and my friends who ordered the chicken Parmesan thought they had been given pizzas. Their plates carried a huge disk of something they thought was crust (turned out to be chicken) with a thick layer of browned cheese on top. They barely ate any of it and did not bother taking it home. My friend who got the fish said it was ok, except for the surprising amount of dill that overpowered the rest of the dish. The best part of the night was when they brought out complementary dessert, maybe because we didn't order any, and it was a handful of dry shortbread cookies. We were like, ok, I guess it's time to leave? On the up side, the space upstairs is great. It was a nice place to host a group dinner (other than the food itself).

I love it here always. Favorite restaurant in the city. So comforting being here and the service is so kind, attentive and professional. Food is amazing no matter what you get.

The apple cheesecake was light and fluffy, not dense, and delicious.

This was my second visit to Fish Nor Fowl, and it was even better than my first. It was my sister-in-law's birthday, and we were a little over 20 minutes late for our reservation as she hit football traffic coming up from Morgantown. They would've had every right not to seat us, but were welcoming and kind. Wishing her a happy birthday, they showed us to our table upstairs, which I didn't realize existed. It's a different vibe than the downstairs, which has a greenery wall. Upstairs has a cool white, winter vibe with fur stoles on the benches and twigs that reminded me of antlers. It all looks cool and upscale, which this restaurant is. Our server asked if we had been here before and as my sister-in-law hadn't, went over the menu which includes shareable small plates as well as large plate plates. We got several small plates and each ordered a large plate of pasta as well. We also each got a drink, with mine being an option from their nonalcoholic menu, which makes me so happy to see. It was similar to an espresso martini and complex with N/A spirits. Really terrific. Everything we ate was fantastic, from the buckwheat focaccia with whipped ricotta to the olives to the seasonal delicata squash. We each tried both of the pasta entries, a savory mushroom pappardelle I've had here before and stuffed shells that reminded of a rich spinach artichoke dip, before we were beyond full and took the rest to go. We were not at all hungry enough for dessert but since it was my sister-in-law's birthday our server mentioned it would be on the house and they would love to give us one, so she chose an apple cheesecake that we still somehow found room for. It was a great choice. Everything here, from the food to the service to the ambiance, is very well done. It's a bit pricey but not unreasonably so; our total before tip was just under $150 for two people. Wonderful meal.

Thinking of a place to go eat when my friend was in town that she wouldn't have been wasn't as hard as we thought it'd be. Both of us have a craving for Italian food always, so when I brought up Fish nor Fowl and she looked at the menu it was a done deal. I've talked about Fish nor Fowl before because it really is that goooorl. It's a chic space- the atmosphere is prime for a date night or girls night. Our server was super lovely , personable and attentive. The drinks were phenomenal. We both got the blood oath- which if you like mezcal, you will love. She's smokey, fruity, flirty. Then of course we had to get the bone marrow risotto. My goooood it was good. Savory, tender, sweet-- and they even boxed up the marrow bones so I could give them to Peanut to chew on later. The main event was the chicken parm, a dish Fish nor Fowl is known for - for GOUD reason. A ginormous, tender, juicy chicken cutlet, fried to perfection, topped with a sweet and savory pomodoro sauce, a hefty (so perfect) amount of moz & parm and cooked to perfection. The BUCATINI ALL'AMATRICIANA was the pasta dish we chose to round out the evening. The "amatri-chana" sauce was something special. The bucatini noodles were fresh and thick. The guanciale added that salty savory kick to the sweetness of the sauce. Of course nothing would be complete without a heaping helping pecorino on top. It was the perfect compliment to the parm. Portions are big so we had left overs for daaaays. Everything was scrumptious and everything was #GOUDapproved CHICKEN PARMESAN | $38 fried chicken cutlet/ pomodoro sauce/ mozzarella/ parmesan/ basil. BUCATINI ALL'AMATRICIANA | $28 "amatri-chana"| guanciale/ san marzano/pecorino... BONE MARROW RISOTTO | $28 red wine / lemon caver crunch BLOOD OATH | $16 mezcal/ fumato/ honey/ blood orange/lime

First experience at Fish Nor Fowl and we had bar seats. It wasn't bad, but next time I probably would only book if there is a table available. Gave us some entertainment watching them prepare the food though! Our waitress was just fine, not super personable and I only say that because the people next to us had a different server and he seemed great!! Again ours didn't do anything wrong but felt like just another table to push through which isn't what we want to feel for a place like this! Food was delicious and we left feeling stuffed with leftovers to take back. Whipped ricotta is a must. I must say it was so hot in there that I got uncomfortable and wanted to leave. Asked my friends that had gone before if they had experienced this and they said the exact same. Usually not something I'd note but a reason for a 4 star review. Will definitely be back in the future :)

Back again and another 5-star experience! Of course we devoured the focaccia. But wow, that white bean dip, lights-out-delicious!!! The bean dip had great garlic and dill flavors. I mean any dip with garlic confit will be a home run! We also had taleggio and finocchiona, which is a wonderful pairing of meat and cheese. The cheese is creamy and goes perfectly with the meat! Nice service size as well. My arctic char piccata was phenomenal! The fish skin was crispy, while the sauce was loaded with flavor. Light yet so satisfying. Finally, we had a side of carrots. The feta was so tasty and paired with the harissa, made for a knockout combo. The harissa gave the perfect kiss of heat. Such a wonderful dining experiencing, which makes another return visit a must!

My family and I came for a recent weekend dinner -- we had reservations and were seated immediately, and the restaurant was full (all the way until 9:30 at least), so definitely plan ahead with a res. Apparently they're known for the focaccia and dips -- we tried the tomato whipped butter -- and both were delicious. The focaccia was light and fluffy, not too greasy with the lovely fragrant olive oil aroma. The tomato butter was really good (and added a nice contrast to the focaccia) but it did get a bit heavy (understandably as eating a whole thing of butter at once can be a lot ...) We ordered a bunch of plates to share -- some of my favourites: - Bone marrow risotto: soooo savoury and rich flavour. The risotto itself seemed fine -- not too soggy or oily -- but the rich umami of the bone marrow stood out here. Definitely would recommend this dish. -  Bucatini all'amatriciana: this was so delicious! The sauce was extremely flavourful and the pasta was cooked to a perfect chewy texture. I thought the portion size did feel a bit small (esp the proportion of pasta to sauce). - Crispy skin duck. The duck was so tender and juicy, and the crispy skin was cooked amazingly. The polenta was prepared very nicely -- a nice lighter complement to the duck.  I would say a bit pricey for the portion size though. -- (desserts) We had the blood orange panna cotta and pavlova. For the panna cotta, I really liked the caramel flavour, which paired nicely with the panna cotta itself, without being too sweet. The pavlova was interesting -- I thought it turned out a little too crispy/hard on the sides (hard to break off with our spoons) but the mix of lemon and strawberry flavour was fantastic. Highlight was definitely the service though; our waiter Dominic was so friendly and helpful with recommendations and walking us through the menu. At the end of our meal, he was profusely apologetic about how long we had to wait for our food (which honestly wasn't even that long) and comped two of our desserts to make up for it. Overall it was such a lovely experience and I couldn't recommend coming here enough!

We went to dinner at Fish Nor Fowl earlier this week and we family styled everything which is the best way to experience Fish Nor Fowl! We started off the meal with the buckwheat focaccia and normally it feels wrong to pay for bread but this was worth it. We then moved onto some small and large plates and, of course, pasta! The bone marrow risotto and the rigatoni were both so flavorful and the creamy polenta that came with the crispy skin duck large plate was unreal. We had to finish the meal with some sweet treats and I loved the crunchy chocolate pearls on top of the tiramisu. The pavlova with the lemon curd and strawberry compote is the perfect summer dessert and one of the best desserts that I've had all year. The inside is spacious and bright with a large downstairs and a small upstairs with bars on both levels. Our server was really nice and attentive.

Prosciutto & burrata - The portion of prosciutto was huge! What's not to like?! Caesar salad - I didn't really enjoy this because the anchovy flavor was extremely strong. I know that's what Caesar dressing is made of but this was too much for my liking. Nothing against the way they prepared it, just not my taste. It was large and definitely shareable for 2 people. Mushroom pappardelle - The noodles were fresh and delicious and it was packed with mushrooms. It comes in a butter "sauce" but I do wish it was maybe a cream-based sauce as I feel it lacked a little bit of flavor, in my opinion. The service was outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine and took the time to answer all of our questions. The GM stopped by a few times which is always appreciated too. I definitely will return but will probably stick to the whipped ricotta & focaccia bread, chicken Parmesan, and rigatoni.

is this... the best restaurant in pittsburgh...? maybe!!! Seriously I think my meal here was one of the best I have ever ever had. Everything was FANTASTIC. the vibes were perfect and the service was outstanding. i'm blown away tbh and so upset I haven't gone sooner. I want to try every single thing on the menu bc i'm convinced you can't order wrong here.

Really great place! There is really not a bad thing I could say. Very friendly staff. Our waiter had excellent input. Beautiful decor with all the greenery inside. We sat upstairs. It was very cramped upstairs, but I wouldn't let that detract from the experience. The meals were excellent. Top notch. I had a Hugo spritz, which was my favorite cocktail. Excellent espresso martinis. Parking is great. Street parking.

The ambiance was really nice! Our server was knowledgeable and had great recommendations!! We got brussel sprouts, focaccia, whipped ricotta and the burrata and prosciutto. We didn't get any of the main dishes, but the four appetizers were plenty of food for two people. We really liked the focaccia to compliment the apps! The hugo spritz was perfect and the Rioja wine and Negroni cocktail were both great. Would definitely return to try more!

By far our favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. Fry was an incredible waiter and gave us amazing recommendations! We had the foccacia bread, the Calabrese pesto dip, the bucatini, the rigatoni, and the chicken parm. Ending the night with a tiramisu was perfect! You MUST come here! And the place was stunning! The interior decor was perfect and complimented everything!

There is a hard start time as the tasting menu is done in a large group setting-serving everyone at once. So, we found ourselves wandering around the neighborhood and then standing in front of the door waiting for 6pm to strike, I felt like a creep. The area itself is an open floor plan so when they welcome you in, it's confusing to see the table we will be seated around but also see little stations for the canapés. Little awkward. We found a two-seater, and as a plus size woman I felt a bit cramped. My husband and I are both tall (5'11" and 6'3" so we were both fighting over who got the bench seat vs the little stool. There's always that awkwardness when you're looking around trying to figure out what the heck is about to happen and wondering..when is it time to EAT. We did 3 or 4 canapés which were all enjoyable-one that stands out to me had goat cheese and beets-yum! We are asked to take our seats at the large table and ...awkward again bc we are just kind of all looking around waiting. I have a sensitivity to alcohol so I did the N.A. pairing and I didn't feel like I missed out on much. The sommelier did a great job at explaining the notes and why each pairing happened. I really enjoyed the tasting menu. The chef kept us abreast of what we were trying and looped in other accompanying staff which gave us some of their backstory which was nice. I love that the restaurant has an urban garden and tries to reduce waste-that's so important. Minus 1 star because of the clunkiness of the bench area vs the large table where we ate and the cost. $275/pp plus tip isn't something that many can swing in a blue collar city.
