This is rare I leave a bad review. Went in for the first time for 2 drinks. I asked if they had a specialty cocktail menu, waitress advised no, but she could make whatever I wanted. She offered to make a chocolate martini I said ok that sounded good. My husband ordered a beer. Two minutes later. The waitress came back, and asked what we wanted to order. We were so confused . We ordered again acting like she didn't just take our order 2 minutes ago. I actually ended up changing my order and asked if they had a "house" pilot grigio. She said yes. She asked if we were going to order food and we said just drinks tonight. 5 minutes pass and she brings a large appetizer to our table. I said we didn't order this. She asked if we talked about it though . We said "no" we were never ordering food. I was so taken back by this experience I wanted to cash out after our drinks. I headed to the bar and asked for our bill. We were going to leave cash and leave because the whole situation was very uncomfortable. (Thinking 20 would be enough for the drinks and tip) We finally get the bill and the house wine is on there along with the beer. The total was $37 for 2 drinks. I won a gift card to this restaurant 2 years ago & since we don't live close by I was unable to try this restaurant until today. It just so happened that I was working in the area and remembered that I had the gift card in my wallet and so I stopped in for lunch at 1 PM on a Wednesday afternoon. When I arrived, there was one other couple at the bar and two tables with two couples seated at them. It is a small place, so it does not accommodate a lot of people. I would suspect that reservations might be necessary for dinner otherwise you may have to wait for a table. I really like the decor inside. The bar was cute & had actually the nicest cushioned barstools I've seen lately! I sat at the bar since I was solo. They have an extensive wine list, including some pricey bottles, but very many choices by the glass. They also have several sparkling choices. I'm always hesitant to get sparkling by the glass because it's not always fresh. But I did try their sparkling rosé & it was fresh, dry, bubbly & enjoyable. It was $13 a glass. Their French onion soup was delicious, served in a crock as it should be with a soft crouton on the bottom, tons of flavorful onions in the broth & yummy baked cheese on top. I do recommend their Cuban sandwich, there's a little twist on an original Cuban with this one. I really did like that sandwich, and it came with potato salad on the side... The potato salad was good, but did not have much flavor, but you could tell it was fresh made, and not potato salad out of a jar. The bartender was also the server for the tables and it was not very busy. A lot of people mention that they had to wait a long time for their food and it was not speedy, it looked like there were two guys in the kitchen. Several of their tables have couches and low coffee tables and I know that is sometimes cumbersome for older folks when it comes to dining. although that kind of seating is great if people are just having drinks and cocktails. So I could imagine there would be a wait if it's a busy evening. But I did enjoy my visit and if I was ever in the area, I would definitely try it again. My old fashioned was bitter. I found the scallops salty, and one was still cold inside. The petit filet with au gratin potatoes was actually okay. Came in for a Sunday brunch and they only had one waitress working. She was swamped so it took a while to get our food. It wasn't her fault, but when our food was subpar, she really didn't have anything to offer us. The food on my friend's plate didn't look fresh at all. The dish I had was misrepresented on the menu and ingredients that were listed weren't included. When she said she didn't have any possible addition or substitutions, that was it... Nothing else to offer. I contacted the restaurant later about how we thought the menu could be reworded to better represent their offerings and got absolutely zero response. Seems they're just taking advantage of a Sewickley crowd with money and don't really care about their product. We work in food service, we eat out a lot and love to support local restaurants, but we will not be going back to Lula. Also, it's really hard to eat from a plate of food on a coffee table. This is a gem of a place. Wow! I was so glad I found it on Yelp. I would have otherwise never known about it. I was super excited to try this place and boy did it exceed all of my expectations. The town this place is located in is very inviting and the people who work here are too. I didn't expect anything otherwise though. Upon entering I saw people from outside the windows talking, smiling and enjoying themselves and I knew right then this place was my kind of place. Me and my date first sat down at the bar to enjoy a glass of wine and beer. The bartender was very welcoming. Then we moved over to the couches and ordered another drink and the citrus fish bites app. Wow, again! They were very good and the tarter sauce was probably the best I have ever had. The waitress was very welcoming and friendly as well. We didn't stay long because my date was a bit tipsy(lol) from prior drinks and she accidentally knocked over the lamp on the table but I apologized. They were super nice about and giggled as only the bulb itself stopped working. *Be careful when sitting down close to the wall as the lamp cord could accidentally get in your way if you're not aware of it. This place is top notch and deserves five stars. I'll be back the next time I'm in town and I will recommend it too anyone I know who is visiting Robert Morris University or the surrounding areas. The food was decent , cute atmosphere, and open on Mondays. The downside is the service. The servers were blunt and not friendly. We asked to sit outside and the server said "no" and walked away which left us confused. Once we sat inside getting our order taken seemed like a chore neither of the servers wanted to do. My wine had a ton of cork floating in it. When I mentioned it to the waitress she responded with "maybe" and I thought I was going to get a scolding for asking. We have always had wonderful service and great food here until last night. Perhaps they schedule the worst employees for Mondays, or the owner/manager was not there. There is no excuse for the rude, incompetent and unprofessional bar tender who had to assist the incompetent waitress. When food arrived prepared incorrectly, the bartender became belligerent and argued with us, that is the way SHE has always had it and Lulu's prepares it. Rather than argue with a customer, she should have sent the manager. All they need to do is check any recipe for grilled romaine or have it at another restaurant. It is always cut lengthwise and then grilled, NOT thrown on the grill with the outer leaves on. When our actual waitress disappeared for more than 20 minutes, said bartender was the only person whose attention could be caught as she went to the cash register. When we politely asked for our waitress, she once again became hostile and argumentative, insisting that our waitress was in the bathroom for five minutes. This dreadful woman seemed to have an axe to grind. Perhaps she was angry that actual dinner customers were taking her away from her flirtations with the loud construction workers at the bar. She and another bar tender spent all of their time talking and flirting with these men, with the exception of mistreating us. Shame on the manager/owner for allowing this dreadful, black-haired woman to treat loyal customers this way. If you see this woman working there, turn around and go to one of the many restaurants in Sewickley where you will not have an abusive experience. We will never go there again due to the extremely rude nature of this one individual, in spite of our many great experiences here. We are reasonable people and can overlook incorrectly prepared food, a neglectful waitress, and loud bar customers. What is inexcusable is a verbally abusive, truculent employee. No customer needs to be verbally abused by such a caustic, argumentative and highly unprofessional employee. read more

While in Sewickley for the evening, still walking from place to place, looking for a decent drink and menu combo at one joint, I stopped in here, because I saw their menu featured Gambas al Ajillo, which I absolutely LOVE! It's a Spanish shrimp dish, which is supposed to be sautéed with garlic and red peppers. I made a comment to the bar manager/ owner about how I love this dish and asked if his version was authentic, to which he said it was, so I ordered it. What I got was a bowl filled with a butter/water (maybe had some white wine in it, but if it did, there was no hint nor flavor of it) and some shrimp floating in it. There were two dried, whole peppers also floating in the dish, but since they weren't broken, they offered absolutely no flavor nor heat to the dish. The shrimp's flavor was boring and fishy (just like a previous place I visited... odd how I could eat two shrimp dishes this evening, prepared two different ways, yet both tasted exactly the same and neither was good! Needless to say, I ate about half that dish, drank my glass of wine and left. I will say, they have a decent wine program here, so I could see coming here to sit in their alley, where there was live music and drink wine. Service was decent and the venue/vibe was cool. What a pleasant surprise! Lula was a last minute idea when we were looking for a place to eat on a Tuesday night in the Sewickley area, and it was better than we had hoped. Great gin and tonics (you have to order Bluecoat gin), and we had a salad, Petit filet, and the Mahi tacos. The filet was awesome - done perfectly, bacon wrapped with a perfect horseradish sauce. But the scalloped potatoes -- wow wow wow. Maybe the best we ever had. The tacos were very good, but the three aren't that filling, so the salad was a good idea. The salad dressing was amazing -- a Dijon and olive oil and I don't know what else blend was awesome. Service was prompt, friendly and pleasant and just right.
