We were warmly greeted by Todd and Gina, the owners, who couldn't have been friendlier. Todd told us all about their wines, including the awards they've won, especially in California, and generously offered us the chance to try any of the wines at no cost. We started with the Gruner Veltliner, a bright, citrusy, and crisp wine. It was extremely dry compared to other Gruners we've had, which are usually more fruit-forward, but it was still quite enjoyable. Next, we tried the Riesling, which was also very good. My wife moved over to the semi-sweet side and tried the Traminette, which I eventually sampled after trying all the dry wines. We both really liked it. I then tried the Cabernet Franc, which was a medium-bodied wine with notes of raspberry, blueberry, and a light mocha oakiness--delicious! The Chambourcin was also quite good, without the typical bite or tartness. Lastly, the Flagship Red, a classic Bordeaux-style dry red, had a pleasant hint of pepper and was definitely a standout. Todd shared that they exclusively offer wines from Stony Run Vineyards in Breinigsville, PA, which has a wide selection. They're also planning to offer Old Fashioneds soon, as their winery includes a distillery, and they'll be featuring a "drink of the week" as well. What really sets this place apart, though, is Todd and Gina themselves. They're genuinely kind people who are dedicated to the community, and it was heartwarming to learn that they both served in the US Military--Todd in the Navy and Gina in the Air Force. I decided to order the Lomo Saltado, which I hadn't had in Pittsburgh. The dish had tender well seasoned filet mignon plus skinny fries and couscous. It's a reflection of Chinese influence on Peruvian culinary . I really enjoyed it. Chef Julio stopped by to say which was lovely. We chatted a little bit about moving from California to Pittsburgh. Nice to hear that he settled in nicely with his family and is happy to call Pittsburgh home. Jenny, his wife, was also helping that evening. It was a pleasure speaking with them. I was surprised to receive a corkage fee of $15 without proper communication. I only brought an already uncorked half a bottle due to the BYOB circumstances, but they did remove it when I questioned it.
