I'm back with my first review in a decade. The reason I'm back? The Beer Hive in Pittsburgh in the Strip District. I had two drinks and two items from the food menu. All four were five stars out of five. In fact, the beer was six stars out of five. The double chocolate nitro pushed stout and the key lime cider. I cannot believe how good these two drinks were. You can do whatever you want. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that I can tell you where to go when you're in Pittsburgh. But what I can do is tell you that the next time I'm here, I'm headed back to the strip district, and specifically the Beer Hive. read more

It's hard to believe I've been in Pittsburgh since the turn of the century and I am just now discovering The Beer Hive. They have an amazing happy hour and a slew of vegan-friendly food options. I can vouch for the seitan wings and look forward to coming back soon to try the fried pickles. The beer selection has something for everyone, so come thirsty. read more

Sneakily the BEST martinis in Pittsburgh (if you like dirty martinis). Their pickle martini is SO good I can't say enough about it. It's not the place you would expect to find an awesome martini, and honestly the ambiance (or lack thereof) is really the only negative about the spot. The BeerHive in Pittsburgh's Strip District has been a Yinzer staple for years. All of the food I have ordered has been good and local. On Tuesdays, they run a $4.12 smash burgher special that is absolutely delicious. The hummus appetizer was really refreshing for a hot day. The beers and drinks are flowing. I love that the draft list changes often. The service is friendly too. They have an upstairs area that you can rent for parties and events which in my opinion is always an added bonus. Decent little dive bar tucked into the heart of The Strip District. Great place for locals and tourists as well. They had a decent draft list when I was there. The woman working the bar was really friendly. I was surprised to see the bar area pretty full on a Monday at 3pm. I had already eaten lunch and quite honestly I didn't realize they served food until I was sitting at the bar. All the folks around me were eating and the food looked very good. I did hear folks tell the bartender how good their sandwich was. I felt the beer prices were quite good too. Will definitely visit again when I'm down in the Strip. read more

BeerHive is such a hidden gem in the strip district! They have rotating beer selections and always tend to have something new to try when visiting! Although the beer is nice, the tanqueray pickletini is a must try!!! Ambience and staff are always great, will certainly return for some bar bites and a great time! read more

The BeerHive needed to fix their a/c on a hot day last weekend, otherwise, it was a nice stop to catch up with friends and chill indoors away from the scorcher day outside. At first, two of us sat at the bar, where we had better service. I don't know if they were doing table service, as after we switched to a table when more friends joined us, we had to go to the bar each time we wanted more drinks despite asking if it was okay to switch before we did. It seemed like other tables were getting service directly. The BeerHive has a nice beer list. I ordered a key lime sour, which was lovely. The second beer I wanted they were out of but they provided a suitable alternative. This bar reminded me a lot of the layout of Jose Pistola's in Philly. Laid back atmosphere, bar-focused, decent food. I'd return if it in the Strip District in the future. read more

I met up with friends and have not here been in years. I tried the arsenal cider on tap which was really good. I got the happy hour special of wings with a dry rub which was excellent. Located in the heart of the strip district the beer hive is a perfect location to stop in and grab a bite to eat and enjoy a brew. We arrived fairly late in the evening on a Wednesday night. And grabbed an order of chicken wings and fries. Chicken wings are cooked perfectly. We opted for the barbecue dry rub and it was good. It's a little sweet and spicy so it has really really good balance. Fries are really delicious. They are your classic fries that you would expect to find around the burgh. read more

Chill place to watch a game and have a good beer. We had pork nachos (delicious) and a smash burger, on special for $5 after 7pm on Saturdays. The burgers, wonderfully marketed (as determined by a marketer) on the menu, are all locally sourced from within steps of the establishment. We love that. One bartender was running the show and she was on it. Greeted us when we came in, switched the tvs to the game we wanted to watch and never made us wait. I live right next door. So I am there often. The food is really good. Smash burgers and salads and chicken sandwich are my favorites here. They have mostly IPA's but can find something you like for sure. The bartenders are pretty friendly. There is one that doesn't seem to like her job much, but you will have that. A staple of The Strip District.  The Beerhive is a neighborhood bar and grill that has tons of beer options, both canned and rotating taps.  They have a full bar as well and feature specialty cocktails from time to time.   They have burgers, wings, tacos and more, all made from scratch in-house while using tons of local ingredients.  Their meatballs, burgers and wing sauces are all made on site. I tried the fried pickles which are hand breaded Pittsburgh Pickle Company pickles served with spicy ranch. Their smash burger is amazing, the burger is sourced entirely within walking distance of their front door! The bun is from Mancini's, the meat is from Strip District Meats, the cheese is from Penn Mac, the onions are from Local Provisions, the pickles are Pittsburgh Pickle Company & the Hive sauce is made in house! Loved the BeerHive! It looks like a cool dive bar inside with an upstairs area in addition to the downstairs. We sat at the bar and got a few martinis which were delicious and very well priced. We were in town visiting from Dallas, staying near the Strip District. By the time we got in, there weren't many options open for a drink immediately near us. We popped into the Beerhive and had a great time. Very good beer and cocktail lists. Cass behind the bar was awesome. She made us feel right at home and even helped with recommendations on where to visit while we were in town. Very cool little spot. Definitely recommended! read more

The Beerhive had delicious pickle brined chicken tenders and the "Green Hornet" sauce on the Famous Fish Tacos which was perfect. The food took awhile to come out with few plates going out to other tables as well - however, it was eventually worth the wait. The beer selection on tap was slim for a 'beer' hive but we found one option we enjoyed and a classic cocktail. It can quickly get noisy inside as the music plays and conversation levels rise, but the overall vibes are that of a nicer dive bar. Unfortunately, service at the table was unfriendly and made us feel uncomfortable. This could be due to a rude first impression when we asked for a four top table instead of a two top table for 3 people. Happy hour was from 5-7 and the waitress waited until after 7 to take our drink order even though we arrived around 6:40. There were two servers for the main seating area and the bar. The upstairs seating was closed and so the server yelled across the lobby to the three people that walked in & up the stairs to come down as the upstairs seating was closed - I thought a sign might save this type of interaction next time. This is my kind of spot! A cool little dive bar with a lot of locals. Great atmosphere. Lots of laughing and talking. It made me smile. It's kinda loud, but in a good way. We didn't eat, but the food I saw people eating looked very good. I really enjoyed having a couple of beers here while walking around the Strip District. The bartender was super sweet and she did her job very well. She was very friendly upon entering and constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything. I loved that! The bartenders are extremely rude. I went here after the PGH half marathon in 2025 and they had this cider that tasted like olives-nasty. Odd that the question on my review is "What could improve?" EVERYTHING! Let's start with atmosphere.... So loud you cannot hear yourself think. Next is the food, the portions are much smaller than anticipated, specifically the nachos and appetizer fries. The flavor was not great and we were not impressed. As for service, our server, Carol, was rude, curt and not at ALL someone I would want as a server at my restaurant. My friend asked for water "she said there's the water station is over there and pointed at it. My husband asked about the cheese options for his burger, her response was, it's on the menu. My friend whom is super sweet to everyone thanks Carol.... Carol rolled her eyes and walked away. This was the first and last experience here. read more

This was an OK place. I noted that the jukebox, when using the app to pay through the phone, just eats credits and never plays your songs. We stayed for three beers, and I paid extra to put my songs at the top of the list and it never happened. The bartender knew nothing about how this sort of thing worked. The beer is OK. I tried the milk stout. I don't think I'll return to this place though. There's much better in Pittsburgh. read more

New menu again! Downsized with all of their best menu items. The bowls are gone. Although I always the the bowl looked fantastic, it also appeared to be a huge calorie sink. I can't afford to eat 1200 calories at one sitting because I have to save room for beer! Beer! Today's list was includes an IPA from Long Island City Brewing, their Beer Project. They also have a nitro tap now which is currently featuring East End Big Hop (too bad it's not Snow Melt!). There is an arsenal cider (Grierson's Ginger today). Reissdorf, Bell's, Hoo Farm, Voodoo and Old Thunder round out todays draft list. The Beerhive is a great neighborhood bar, but surprisingly it is always a really great place for good food. The menu is smaller, but your probably won't notice as the wings, tacos, burgers and pulled pork are still there. read more
