I've been to Mike's Beer Bar many times over the years and always enjoy it. The beer list is extensive with so many unique options to try. I also love that you can order steak on a stone while still getting more of a fun sports bar vibe. The staff has always been nice and attentive. Really liked this spot for their wide selection of local and non local beers. Staff were knowledgeable. They also have a food menu that didn't look bad. We only tried the pork nachos at the North Shore Tavern, which has the same menu but NST offers a dinner menu. It's nothing beyond regular bar food, but if that's what you're in the mood for it fits the bill! I prefer a sandwich to be messy to having a side of thousand island for dipping. We were able to reserve a table for our group. It was loud but you could carry on a conversation. This place was incredibly busy hours before the game, but we never had issues getting drinks. The staff, our server in particular, were really on top of things and did a great job of slinging drinks. Another big plus was that they have a huge beer list. Looking to try something local? They have plenty of local/regional craft beers to choose from. I will say that the food menu did seem a bit underwhelming. I looked at it several times and just couldn't really find anything that clicked with me. But given the circumstances, this is a relatively minor gripe. The fact that we never had to flag down or wait on drinks was what really mattered. This was not my first time here but it was my first time for a STEELERS game. The sounds quality and tv viewing was great. They have a great and expansive draft selection. I had the Maryland Crab dip which is delicious but best shared. The service was decent and the place was spacious. There are literally hundreds on tap and in bottles/cans. We went during a game, so the place wasn't as busy as I'm sure pregame or postgame is (this is literally across the street from PNC). I got a flight of PA based breweries, and it was not disappointing. My husband preferred the Raspberry bourree beer. They also have light menu, Bavarian pretzels and things of that nature. From the moment we walked in the door the service was terrible. First, it was unclear whether we needed to wait to be seated and whether there was a hostess. When we walked in there was a young woman standing there who looked annoyed as we approached. She made no attempt at greeting us so I asked if this was where we go to be seated or do we seat ourselves? She responded by looking at us like we were idiots and said well there's a wait. So I said okay...she said so you need to put your name on the list. I responded by saying 'well that's why we are here.' The tone with which she spoke to us was like we were dumb and bothering her. I'm a pretty friendly person in general and usually chalk it up to 'they're having a bad day' so I didn't say anything and then she seated us. There was a Phillies game coming on that we wanted to watch and friends of ours came in too a little later. They had the same experience. Maybe she hates the Phillies idk. Then tables around us were 'reserved' for over 30 minutes while remaining dirty. So our friends couldn't be seated. At least 5 tables around us were dirty for quite awhile. Our friends came in and saw there were three bar seats left near us that were unoccupied. So they asked our waitress if those bar seats were available to sit in as bar seating and she replied by saying 'I don't know, they're not in my section' and walked away. We asked her a couple more questions and she was so unhelpful and said things like that and 'I'm not the hostess.' She refused to offer any advice or help with anything we asked. When she finally came to our table she stood there. Didn't asked if we wanted to put a drink order in or anything. So I asked 'are you our waitress?' When she finally gave us our drinks she walked by at least ten times before we had to stop her again to ask to put in a food order, and her response was "food's an hour." Confused I asked what she meant and she repeated "food is going to take an hour. " I mean we were at a restaurant/bar. It was like how dare we ask to order food. Then our daughters were in town and decided to stop by. Two tables had finally been cleaned and seated with guests near us, and each had an extra seat not being used by its occupants. So, we asked to borrow them. Our table was on the end so it seemed to be plenty of space. The hostess was annoyed and said she needed them for reservations, which was clearly a lie so I told her we didn't take them from the empty tables that were reserved (which had their full chair count already). So she decided to go to the bartender to conspire and asked her to pretend to be the manager and take care of us for moving the chairs. They didn't know it but our friends were at the bar listening to their entire conversation. The women said 'Let's say it's a fire hazard. You be the manager' Meanwhile two tables down from us the had a chair on the end exactly how we had it at our table. So they came over and said we had to move tables bc it s a fire hazard, meanwhile the game we were watching wasn't on in any other part of the bar. I then told her that she had been rude to us since the moment we walked in. My husband was frustrated too. We had been nothing but pleasant to both our waitress and the hostess, even though they were rude to us. He started to complain to them that this was the worst experience he's ever had at a restaurant and that they were rude and the service was terrible. So they got security. Security was the manager, and he was nice, and he let us tell part of the story and found a spot for us next door but at that point we were just not willing to give them any of our money. As someone who worked in restaurants as both a hostess and a server for the better part of a decade, I try to be patient, but I also know how people are supposed to be treated. Number one the hostess should always greet the guests, especially if there wasn't anyone in the line. The waitress at the very least should ask if she can take our order. It's so simple. This was a horrible experience. I have never in 45 years been asked to leave any establishment because I am always a respectful person, even if someone's rude to me. I will never ever go there again. Our friends also left , they cancelled their order after they heard the girls conspiring and saw them ask us to leave. read more

My date and I met here for dinner on a Thursday evening. It's not baseball season so street parking was easy to find and the place wasn't crowded at all. It's a large space, so I think it would be a great place to enjoy a drink and/food at prior to a baseball game. This place is also attached/owned by the people who run North Shore Tavern, so the food menu is available at both locations. My date ordered a beer (I forget which ones - there were tons to choose from) and I ordered a glass of wine. For dinner, I ordered the filet mignon on a stone (available in 6, 8, 10, or 12 oz) with a side of French fries and my date ordered the jumbo sea scallops on a stone with a side of Brussels and bacon slaw. Basically the concept is that your food is served to you undercooked on an extremely hot stone. It doesn't need long to finish cooking but it's done at the table. The food was good.... But in my opinion the scallops turned out better than the steak. I was trying not to overcook pieces of my steak, but it didn't work. I think I'd rather order a steak at a steakhouse when it comes out to me cooked to my liking. The sides were good. Each entree comes with a sauce. I chose steak sauce and my date chose the chimichurri. The sauces were good. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I went here a few months ago after a peddler tour. I was looking to enjoy myself and eat. I went with a group of about 8 people. I ordered the filet mignon on a stone. It was alright, not very memorable (I had to look up the receipt photo to remember). Why do I still have the receipt photo? Well, the staff decided to just add people to my tab, without even asking. I'm glad I looked at the menu when it was about twice a high as it should have been. The staff didn't ask me if it was OK, they just decided to put tack it on. It's a good thing I happened to know the people they added to my tab. We were all confused when only part of the group got a receipt and the other was waiting for theirs. I don't want to imagine what things other people get added to their tab that they don't notice, or aren't really able to reconcile with people they know. This is really all I remember from that interaction. I purposefully made myself wait to write a review, because I was really annoyed by this. What if I hadn't been able to afford the extra charge? Or only carried enough cash? That's just bad customer service because at no time was I asked if others were on my tab. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for that. read more
