I'd say this place had very solid food and it came quick. My party had smoked wings, french onion soup and crab sandwich among other things. The food was very delicious however the bottled beer wasn't cold. One of my pet peeves! It is very small inside. Late night grub & spirits in Steel Town USA. Did a random YELP search and Forbes Tavern a rustic style bar that serves outstanding bar food. Lucky for me it was a few blocks from hotel so after a quick stroll I was in. Super friendly greeter who directed me to a table. Our waiter was superlative ! This kid should be working in a Michelin-starred restaurant except in Pittsburgh, no Michelin Star restaurants exist. He deserves half clap for being awesome. No what you all desire know about and that's what did you eat Frank! Well, I had an amazing French Onion soup with overwhelming flavors. The wings which tasted like they had been smoked and then sauced applied but still delicious. Followed by a gyro & fries. Well , the fries were spectacular and gyro did the job. Visiting Pittsburgh in May '25. Second time here. I came to Forbes Tavern with a small group. Others had drinks, I had water and ordered the Tavern Burger w/ fries. The waitress did not ask me how I would like burger cooked. Burger arrived after a while, and it was the best juiciest burger I've had in a while. The Gorgonzola cheese and bacon went really nicely with burger. Only thing I didn't like is they put toppings like pickles, tomatoes, and mixed greens on side, rather than inside the burger. Passing through for work and was pleasantly surprised at the high quality lunch that I stumbled upon at Forbes Tavern. The French onion soup was one of the best I've had, rich broth and the perfect amount of cheese and bread. I also ordered a Cob salad that was equally enjoyable. The salad was large and everything was evenly mixed throughout the lettuce and not just on the top. The server was incredibly friendly and attentive. Impressive beer selection, but those of us drinking Miller Lite felt right at home as well. The wings were really good (multiple flavors to choose from) and we followed them up with a couple of sandwiches. The Pittsburgh flatbread was a little hard to eat because you couldn't pick it up. We stumbled on Forbes Tavern, and it was a wonderful discovery! We were at a Yelp event couple blocks over and wanted to try somewhere new for dinner. We had one of the best waitresses of all time, it was a surprise to see one of my all time favorite people Leah working there...it was soo good to see and talk to her again! Forbes Tavern has one of the best crab cakes I've ever tasted. I always want to branch off and try something new, but the crab cake is just too good. It's served with a side of fries and they are really good too! Everytime I pick up an order, the staff are always very kind and nice. Down to the brass tacks, it was fantastic. Place was jumping for Wednesday evening, but three of us were able to find seats at the bar with no problem. Our service is prompt and friendly. Beer selection was OK, but then again I am a bit of a beer elitist. I was waffling between the burger and grilled chicken. Our server said lots of people like the burger so I went with it. I have to tell you it was absolutely fantastic. Stunning external char. Cooked medium rare throughout. Like truly edge to edge pinkness. Perfection. Flavor and texture of the burger was on point. The fresh cut fries I had were good, though they needed to be cooked just a couple minutes longer. They were a bit undercooked and floppy but still better than frozen. My friend had the crabcake sandwich to which he absolutely loved. My other buddy had the French dip. His only complaint about his dish was it was a little salty.
