I have been to Souper Bowl a couple of times, before Penguins games or concerts at PPG Paints Arena. It is probably the most convenient place to eat before going to PPG Paints. This particular time for this review was prior to seeing Fall Out Boy. The restaurant played Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World songs (which I thought was cool). Our server was really nice, friendly, and attentive. My son ordered chicken strips, which were fine. I ordered the Pittsburgh Wrap, which tasted pretty good as well.

This has been my little spot for years. It is close to my job and the prices are affordable. While you won't get fine dining here you will get some great food. The food is always flavorful and the serving sizes are so worth it. My go to is the buffalo chicken salad. I typically eat half for lunch and the reminder for dinner that's how large it is. The burgers are also good reminds me of childhood diners on road-trips. They offer daily specials and also have a bar area. If you are ever at the PPG Paints arena stop in for a quick meal.

This was my first time here and it was right before the Penguins game. I honestly didn't know what to expect. Drunk bros, loud music, packed house? It was not like anything I imagined. It was full but not packed and more of a family atmosphere than a frat club. Not what I thought when I came in and not what I expected before a Penguins game. I was surprised and would come here again just because of the atmosphere. The service was slow but not more than what I expected from before a game. We ordered beers and food and it did take a long time to get them, but we were in no hurry. Sweet potato fries were a $2 upcharge with the sandwiches but totally worth it. And I got the regular fries and they were crispy and hot. Perfection. For my lunch I ordered a Reuben. Reubens are my go to for most lunch time ventures. I love them and this one at the Souper Bowl was exceptional. The bread was toasted to perfection and the meat....it was piled on. I could not believe there was that much meat on the sandwich. I probably could have made an entire other sandwich from the meat. The sauerkraut was not overwhelming and had enough tang to get the mouth watering. I enjoyed my time here and I look forward to coming here again! Only question. The name...Souper Bowl. Is it a play on no one allowed to say Super Bowl? Because, they only had two soup choices! So it has to be that, right?

Okay, this is a little hidden gem in Pittsburgh. The food is actually very delicious. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with a side of fries. The vibe is very bar esque. It was affordable and surprisingly filling. The fries were also way above par. The only thing that was not so positive was the waitstaff. Although our waitress was incredibly kind, I feel as if the place itself could have used an extra couple of hands. We waited at least 10 minutes for our checks to be processed and they were done one at a time. Our waitress also forgot to bring a couple of requested items (just sauces though). We went during lunchtime at our office jobs, and there were only two or three other tables, so I feel as if service could have been a little quicker. That aside, I would definitely recommend this place to a friend, and I, too, will be back!

Stopped by a bit before 11AM for a sorely needed meal after flying in to Pittsburgh. When we arrived, a sign directed us to go upstairs and the place was totally empty. I had my doubts, seeing the space was still being set up, with some booths not even having tables and stacks of chairs by the bar. It felt a little dark and smelled just a bit smokey, and was totally deserted since it was so early. Still, the bartender/waitress greeted us and directed us immediately to a table, asking if we'd like lunch menus and tending to us as she finished moving around furniture. Once we began to order, she immediately walked is through every detail of what we asked for. "Let me see, so chicken, swiss-" and on. It took a while but she made it clear she wanted us to be happy with whatever we got and that they would work with us to customize any small changes to make it better. She also offered to split our checks as she took orders, immediately clueing in to our group meet-up. To put it briefly, our food was AMAZING. Everyone's food looked fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the turkey club and it was put together pristinely. Every bite was just as tasty as the last, and the fries were a great portion and super nicely crispy on the outside. Everyone at the table was just as impressed with their food, visually and taste wise. We cleared our checks and were pretty happy with the fair prices. In the end, the quiet space was a perfect zone to chill and have a quality meal on our way to Duquesne. I don't think I'll get the chance to come back but would recommend to anyone in the city.

I've been to the Souper Bowl twice now, once for Lunch which I ate there and tonight I got takeout. At lunch I was able to sit downstairs and ordered the Chicken Salad which was very good. Service was pleasant and quick as well. Tonight when I went to grab my takeout, there was a sign stating the 2nd floor was open. I figured maybe at night they open up more seating but to my surprise the downstairs was all blocked off and it said employees only. Maybe they are renovating or something. Upstairs was another bar and some seating. A decent little gathering of people around 7p. I approached the bar to see where to pickup my order and the bartender said she could grab it. Everything was ready to go in under the time the states to me so I was happy. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich Diablo Style (they add banana and jalapeño peppers) along with fries and a side of blue cheese all for $10 and some change. I could smell the buffalo sauce through the bag and container so I knew this was going to be good. Not only was it delicious but the sandwich was huge along with a bunch of fries. Good value here. And the chicken was and actual white chicken breast which was then breaded. You had to bite against the grain other wise you'd pull the whole thing apart. None of that imitation junk here. There is also something very appealing about their fries that I can't put my finger on. Almost like they have a slight coating on them. I highly recommend you give this a shot the next time you are near the arena.

Bartender downstairs was absolutely obnoxious to us. Slamming drinks down and making stunningly rude comments. Upstairs was much better.

Thankfully nothing is overly gory or too creepy. To avoid a line, it is best to go right at opening or about an hour before it closes. There is a list of fun themed drinks served in quirky glasses that match the theme of the drink (a mummy, for example). I visited three times and tried a different drink each time. One thing is that they can (and often do) search your bag to make sure you don't steal the glassware. Sad that they need to so that, but I guess I understand why they need to check. If you are looking for a quirky, fun experience while downtown, definitely check it out.
