This place is such a fun experience! Sports bar/restaurant right across from PNC Park. Amazing service, they kindly guide you through the process to cook your own steak on a stone if it is your first time. Came here with friends and family for my birthday, and it was a blast. The steak was juicy and unbelievably tender, same with the scallops. The focaccia pizza was also to die for, super cheesy and not overly greasy.
Perfect date night spot that's low key and different. I was fortunate enough to get a reservation for Sunday evening. However I imagine this place is packed when there's any home games due to the location. Service was great and very inviting. Our food came out quick which was expected since we had to commit ourselves. It was a great experience. Def recommend getting their chimichurri for the steak!
Food is always good here. I love the whole experience of cooking on the salt rock, it makes the meal feel fun. It's a bit pricey, but definitely worth it for the quality and the experience.
Stopped in for dinner after a pirates game let out. It was very busy, but the service was great. The atmosphere was nice, they had the doors and windows open so it was and breezy. The floors are a little slick but once you get your food on a hot stone. You'll know why. The food was pretty fantastic. They serve the steak blue on a hot stone and you cut pieces and cook it yourself. Very very cool concept. The butters and chimichurri are fantastic BUT! Be careful if it gets on the stone it pops like bacon grease. It was worth it. I had the seafood and it was great. The scallops were great and had nice texture. The food was seasoned OK the only thing we would've liked is a little more on the steak. We each got a drink and on the stone meals. It came out to a little over $100 so it won't break the bank. Also s/o the server. She was super busy but very nice and professional. She came and checked up regularly even though she had a big party to deal with. Nice place and we will be back
I wish I could have given them a 5 star because our food was 5 star, but our waitress seemed like she wanted to be somewhere else instead of at work with us!!! We waited 5 years to come here for a meal!!! That's 1,825 days we waited because of other engagements and responsibilities!!!!! 5 years ago, we only stopped here for a drink during the pickle festival. My wife and I were both looking forward to our dinner cooked on a stone. Our waitress, Alley, was verbally short, uninterested, inattentive and it felt like she just wanted to be somewhere else instead of with us at the North Shore Tavern. We loved the meal itself. Both of our fillets were phenomenal. The grilled shrimp were huge and very tasty but they were a little dry. We prefer our shrimp steamed. My scallops were absolutely phenomenal and I couldn't recommend them enough!!!! My side salad was excellent, but I couldn't finish it!!! My wife's sweet potato fries and their dip were very good. We would not order the mushroom soup again because of all of the additional vegetables that were added, too much texture. We loved most of the food, but our service was below mediocre and beyond substandard for downtown Pittsburgh. Our total for 2 for lunch was $130. We paid $60 pp at Magic Kingdom for a buffet at Crystal Palace and we paid $120 for chicken tenders a hotdog and 2 fries poolside in Turks and Caicos and had better service... We did tip 20% for lunch, but it should've only been 2% for the service we received.... I hope you get a better server than Alley... Enjoy!!!
North Shore Tavern is a top-tier spot for a work lunch! I come here often, and it never disappoints. The food is always fresh, delicious, and perfect for fueling up mid-day. If I'm feeling indulgent, I go for the Steak on a Stone--because what's better than cooking your own steak exactly how you like it? It's always high-quality, super tender, and just a fun experience overall. On lighter days, I go for one of their massive salads--and I do mean massive. Fresh, loaded with toppings, and honestly enough food to keep me full all day. The service is always great, and the atmosphere is lively but still work-lunch appropriate. Whether you're here for a casual meal or trying to impress a client, North Shore Tavern delivers every time
My entire family went to the North Shore Tavern tonight - overall it was an "eh" experience for me, but I'm a vegetarian. The rest of my family loved it! First note - the floors were super slippy so don't fall! I sure as heck almost did! But other than that the restaurant was cute - Pittsburgh sports themed as one would expect that close to the stadiums! Drinks: Everyone got either a beer from their extensive list or liquor. My mom did get a slushie that she said was pretty good! Food: It was unusual for my family, but we did not try any appetizers. They all seemed like items that could be full meals. Around the table, we had a little of everything. The shrimp was apparently fantastic - especially the seasoning on them. Everyone that got steak also said it was super good. My mom and I are vegetarians so we got the Cajun pasta without the sausage (there weren't any other real options...) and it was super, super greasy. One other thing to note was, they very very quickly go over what the heck you're supposed to do with your steak on the stone. My poor father was so confused until we had the waitress come back and explain again a bit slower and louder. Overall: It was a good dinner! The meat eaters at the table loved it! So take their word for it! My mom and I had an okay time - but that's the challenge of being a vegetarian going to a restaurant known for meat on a stone!
While I was a bit apprehensive at first due to lack of service. Once our sweet waitress Tiffany came over she made our experience wonderful! The food was spot on and had tons of options that sounded delicious! The atmosphere is loud but fun! Overall we enjoyed our experience!
I mean, it's steak on a stone, what else do you need to know? OK, maybe a little bit. I was shocked at how much responsibility I was given. You don't specify how you want your meat cooked. You cook it. The slab is EXTREMELY hot and when you slap that slab of cow on that slab of rock it's more charismatic that then Chili's fajita's of your childhood birthday dreams! Folks were friendly, beer selection was solid, and location is fantastic.
Another stop for Pittsburgh restaurant week! I really liked the options they were offering for the week, so my foodie friends and I had to check it out! For my starter I picked the pierogies, I was craving them! These were pretty good, not the best I had ever had. But the caramelized onions were good! If you didn't know, they're known for "steak on a stone" here! So my filet came out on a piping hot stone, and you cook it to your liking! These servers gave us guidance on how to cook! We also had the choice of side sauces. I got sweet potato fries as my side! I tried the chimichurri and the steak sauce, but the steak was great on its own! Dessert was an apple dumpling!
My 1st time here and gaaadd--ddaammn! Take your man here my ladies!!!! You enter this restaurant & the fragrance of smoked meat & char hits all your 5senses and you KNOW there's going to be a delicious feast. Yes, I said feast because the portions are mouthwateringly large and happily rich. Opposite the Pirates stadium is this restaurant with its large outside dining area as well. Great for drinks with friends. It is loud for sure, with multiple TVs showing baseballs games & Pirates' players' jerseys framed hung over walls. I took my daughter there for dinner after mommy-daughter time--she ordered the kids pizza ((it was more like a thin-crust flat bread maybe)) w/ fries--the cheese on the pizza had a nice smoky flavor. Fries were crisp. I ordered a Tequila Negroni -- it was good & not watered down. For entree I ordered the Chicken Française-- omg oh so goooood! Egg washed chicken pan-grilled on top of buttered mashed potatoes & a side of charred brussell sprouts.. I'll be honest, the brussell sprouts ought to have been charred more which would have eliminated the wet-sock-taste of the vegetable. The chicken & mashed potatoes were BOMBBBB!!! I'm usually uncomfortable when its too much butter to make mashed potatoes but this was great, the chicken was a medium sized chicken filet which was pounded-- the way I love it, the taste & texture is even throughout. Very very heavy!! I had to take a lot home, breakfast for next day lol. I love this place. Definitely pricey but hey it's a one-of-a-kind Steak on a Hot Stone restaurant !! I've been to Mike Spear bar numerous times and seeing the food come out on stones to Cooke and always thought what a great concept. Can't wait to have a reason to try it well bring on my dad's birthday and restaurant week and it was the perfect melding of reasons to go. Our waiter Nick was fantastic. I recognized him from prior establishments he worked at and he's always been nothing but friendly and attentive. My dad has never done a restaurant week so he asked which of the two entrées he was looking at would be recommended and the waiter was very nice about giving us his recommendations. I love French onion soup so I decided to try it that is probably the one thing that I wish I would've done differently in the meal however it was not bad. I just love crockpot, thicker, browned cheese soup. My dad got the French dip eggroll, which he thought was amazing, followed by the seafood sampler which he said was seasoned to perfection. I got the 6 ounce away because I love a good steak and this one was seasoned to perfection. I didn't add sauce. I didn't add salt. I didn't add pepper there was nothing that I would've changed about how this steak was cooked and I'm the one that cooked it on the stone. We both ordered the crème brûlée, which was amazing, especially since I had tried to have crème brûlée earlier in the week and didn't get it, although I do wish the berry selection on top was more than just blueberries because I think raspberries and strawberries. Add a certain tartness to the crème brûlée filling. All of that to say, I would highly recommend North Shore Tavern for any dinner reason not just special occasions and it's definitely a go to stop on restaurant week from here on out. The restaurant was bright, moderate to noisier and was generally more of a sports bar look which I didn't mind so that's the kind of atmosphere you kind of had being there. It wasn't a fancy five star restaurant but it definitely deserves five stars for its food quality and service!

A small little dock tavern at the foot of the Andy Warhol Bridge in Pittsburgh. They do have a very limited food menu but it's a drink and chill kind of place. They do seem to run out of drink quickly or not have some items on the menu. I wanted to give this place a higher rating but it they didn't have two of the four mixed drinks listed on the menu...sorry not sorry! You can go four mixed drinks listed and only have two especially when ur thing is basically happy hour vibes. The atmosphere is pretty awesome though. We will try it again because we hit it up during happy hour when all the young workers were getting out of the office at 5pm. read more

I took my friend to North Shore Tavern for the "steak on a stone" experience, and we both enjoyed our visit! We both chose filet, and we couldn't have been happier with our decision! The filet was so tender, it could be cut with a fork! We also really enjoyed cooking each bit to perfection. The stone eliminates receiving a steak that does not meet your expectation in a typical restaurant. We also both ordered fries, which were crispy and delicious! I don't think there was a single bit of food left on our plates by the end of our visit! I also tried the Pear Naked Martini, which was good although it was a tad too sweet for me. This was such a fun dining experience, and I will definitely be back with my family! read more

This is a one and done for me. It's a unique concept and was excited to try but honestly I can make a better seasoned steak at home. The steak was hard to cut being raw. Knives need sharpened and is it too expensive to throw in veggies or salad with a $45 meal. Gives me the man bar vibe and not a fine dining meal. High top tables with a hot stone in your face trying to cut n cook meat and not burn yourself not ideal for my group. Service was good. read more

I ventured out from my normal lunch routine and ordered take-out from North Shore Tavern. The online ordering process was easy and convenient. Service was friendly when picking up too. The fried buffalo chicken sandwich with apple slaw and pineapple mayo was absolute next level in flavors. The sandwich came with some sweet potatoe waffle fries which were equally as tasty dipped into the mayo and ranch. I am 100 percent going to come back and get this sandwich for lunch again! read more

The Tavern was across the street from our hotel and from PNC Park. We went twice while we were in town for a baseball game. We got in late on Friday night and the kitchen was open until 11 so we ordered the Bison Burger with fries. It was a solid burger and really liked it and the fries were really good! For the second visit after the game we stopped in and got the Pulled Pork Nachos the share. The cheese was fairly thin so it pooled at the bottom but not hard to dip into it. The pulled pork meat was beyond tasty and all mixed on a chip was a solid win! They were out of the banana foster pie the first night but got it back in the second night. I had really high hopes for it but was just average to me but you may love it. Was hoping for more banana and rich sauce but was more of just a banana cream pie but different. Hard to explain but give it a try if you feel adventurous!! A very convenient spot for food and a pint after a Pirates game. read more
We came in as a party of 13 on a Saturday before a Pirates game. They were able to accommodate such a large party very well! We had friendly and timely service throughout. The menu had a nice variety, from their famous stone cooked meats and seafood, to their nachos, and the yinzer wrap. Most of our group got the steak on a stone or a combination of steak and seafood. Everyone enjoyed their meal, for both the food and the experience! Overall, well priced for what you receive! read more
Walked in on a Friday night without a reservation, but were able be seated quickly despite it being busy and several tables that were reserved. Note to self, to make a reservation next time. Food was great. The steak you cook yourself on this hot stone slab to your own liking. You get the option of a dipping sauce and a side. I think I got the garlic aioli and a spicy broccoli salad. They complemented the meal. We sat a high table top. It's kinda crowded a bar, but great for a Friday night date night. You get to enjoy your date, your food, and sports. Low key atmosphere with high end meals. Each meal was about $50. Servers were super busy but very attentive. Highly recommend you give this place a try. read more
This spot is so perfect being situated right across the street from PNC, and less than a 15 minute walk to Acrisure. Came here from out of town to visit family and check off PNC. Effortless to get to the ballpark. Plus, when you combine $4 IC Light pre-game, it's a win-win. Think upscale bar atmosphere. Didn't grab any food, but next time I'm back I'll check out that scene. Place gets packed on game day, but that's hardly a complaint. read more

I stopped by North Shore Tavern after touring the Andy Warhol Museum, just around the corner. Location is great, as it's right across from PNC Park where the Pirates play. I popped in at lunch and just grabbed a seat at the bar. I only wanted an appetizer since I was meeting a larger group for dinner, so I chose the Cheesesteak Eggrolls with beer cheese. I noticed that they came out within 2-3 minutes of my order being placed. They were not hot and seemed as if they'd been sitting out for awhile. To be honest, they seemed like they'd been in the freezer for a very long time & were possibly freezer burnt. The order included 3 egg rolls, and I only ate one. The server was very nice and kept my drink filled. I probably should've complained but didn't want to have to wait. read more

This is still one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Better food AND prices than the fancy steakhouses with amazing service and good decor/vibe. I can't recommend North Shore Tavern enough if you like good steak & seafood. Overcooked food is so horrible and way too common. North Shore Tavern allows you to make sure every bite is warm and perfectly cooked. read more

I did not expect it to be a pub, relaxed vibe but overall it worked! Very casual, wood, high top tables. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered the steak on the stone--wow, what an experience! I had the 6oz filet and scallops, both were outstanding. I had no idea the stone came to you at 800 degrees and you cut up your own meats and cook them yourself! But the staff was amazing at advising. The mashed potatoes were delicious and huge portion! Mixed drinks were also fantastic! read more

I had wanted to return since an earlier visit to enjoy steak on a stone. My wife and I arrived around 7:00 on a Friday when there were no major events on the North Shore. We were promptly seated and drink orders were taken. Our waiter was very friendly. I ordered the 14oz delmonico on a stone and my wife had the swordfish on a stone. I had a beer and she had a white wine. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes and the young lady that brought it out told us how to ensure our food was cooked as desired since it was still cooking on the stone. My steak was excellent and my mashed potatoes were as well. My wife enjoyed her swordfish and fries. It's a tad pricey but I would definitely return. It's a solid meal option. read more

Wow, wandered by fairly late when other things were closed. Divey sports bar vibes from the outside - and same on the inside. But don't let that fool you. The food here is legit. Handicap accessible? Husband uses a walker cannot do steps
North shore Tavern doesn't have steps regarding getting into the establishment. However, if you have to use the restrooms they have stairs. I'm not uncertain if they have an elevator to use the bathrooms.
