Solid diner. The chocolate chip banana hot cakes were perfectly moist and chewy, and the chorizo hash was seasoned well. We arrived ~10:30 AM on a Saturday, and there was a long line, but they moved quickly. We were probably seated within 30 minutes. We popped by to Heat Check to grab a coffee and check out some of the clothes, but good thing we were conservative in coming back because they barely give you any time when they call your name to respond, otherwise they pretty immediately move onto the next name! read more

This place was really solid. Putting your name down on the paper when you walk in, and not having anyone look at that paper for 15 minutes, just hire one more employee... Anyways, got a seat 5 minutes after someone actually looked at that paper (yes, there were people rotating in and out within that time that people could have been sat ahead of us faster). The service is fine, again, one more employee on that shift would have made a difference. The food was pretty darn good. All four of us ordered different things, and all four of us went, oh, this is good. Would absolutely recommend coming here for breakfast. read more

This is the first time I dined at this Pamela's location in several years. When our group arrived at 930 on a Saturday morning, I was afraid we would be waiting forever to get a table. Lucky us, we were seated right away. The restaurant is small and packed! Don't expect any extra space around you. Our waitress was nice and patient. I ordered a western omelette with potatoes and wheat toast. Everything was really good. Our check took quite awhile to come but that may be because they were so busy. Restroom is located upstairs. Parking can be a pain in Shadyside. We found street parking but there are several garages nearby. Good hearty breakfast was had! read more

Cheers to Pamela's on Walnut! Such a nice spot to eat breakfast before shopping around the area. It's a Pittsburgh institution for a reason. I got to try their breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs and feta cheese, as well as the strawberry hot cakes and tea. Everything was excellent. The vibe was very classic American diner-y. The hot cakes were the best I've had probably in my life, and I genuinely thought I'd never like pancakes. Super crispy on the edges, soft on the inside, filled with real fresh berries and loads of cream. Amazing portion as well. Incredible prices. The sandwich is also super good, although a little more basic. Loved they had feta as an option! Good size, good price, well made with numerous ways to customize. And the tea was good too. All in all, it's a Pittsburgh classic, and I was very glad to share a meal with my sister here. Good times, good food, good diner. read more

I don't get this iconic breakfast places that everyone oohs and awes over. It's breakfast? How good can eggs be? But people love this place for some reason. Luckily, we dined on a weekday so it was nutso bad. I'm just as happy with breakfast at Denny's than these types of places. I ordered the Pittsburgh Salad which is one of my favorite things. Fries + Salad + Ranch = that feeling like you're eating healthy! It's more about the mind, right? I "Feel" healthy, therefore I am. And Ranch is basically milk, so it's kinda breakfast-y. The salad was great and the best one of the 3 I had on my trip to Pittsburgh. Service wasn't the best here by any means. I asked for a soda pop and it took a few reminders to the waitress to get it. Same with extra ranch dressing for the salad. The restrooms were upstairs in the back of a different restaurant. It had a creepy vibe, and the two toilets in the Men's room was an absolute first for me. Friends who poop together, troop together. read more

11/2/2025 Ate list: Morning After (Hotcakes, Eggs, Bacon) - 8.6 Come when they open. If you dont want to wait in a cramped indoor space or out in the cold, come when they open. The wait for seating when we went started after about 30 minutes. Pam's is an institution. Deservedly so. It was a perfect morning for a little sweet and a little savory and the Morning After special was perfect! Hotcakes were incredible, perfectly crispy too. Bacon was wonderfully done. Crispy but not burnt. Flavor was on point too. Over Easy eggs were prepped as preferred too. Great spot, great service! read more

For the past 10 years, my husband has been telling me about Pamela's, so when we came to town for his college reunion, we went, and I have to say - it lived up to the hype! We ordered the blueberry hotcakes and the broccoli and cheddar omelet + Lyonnaise potatoes to share. Our friend ordered the chocolate chip banana hotcakes too, which he let me sample too! Everything was incredibly delicious! Although I'm more of a chocolate + banana's kind of person, I have to say I would probably order the blueberries next time because they are refreshing and so good in the hotcakes. I had never had hotcakes like these rolled up like crepes, which made it easy and convenient to eat. He told me Pamela's is known for the potatoes, which were indeed delicious. Even the toast that came with the omelet dish was delicious! The omelet was pretty standard, but I would order it again just to balance out the sweet dessert-y breakfast and one with more protein. Service as fast and straight-forward. They apologized for the wait, but we actually thought everything was pretty quick! We had a 20-minute wait or so when we showed up on a Friday around 11am, but we didn't mind. I told him we are definitely coming back when we are in town for his next reunion! read more

It's a really sweet classic diner vibe. They have one long room full of tables. The servers have clearly been there for a long time and work together so well. The food is fantastic. So fresh. We both got the hash, with eggs and toast. I loved the cook and flavor of the corned beef. The menu offers a great selection of sweet and savory. read more

Great service and good! Must try crepe like short cakes with strawberry if you are in the area! Locally owned!

I got the morning after breakfast special with two sunny side up eggs, ham, and two crepe-style hotcakes. All of it was pretty good (4/5), and it was a lot of food for just $12.29! The service was pretty good (4/5)! They quickly refilled waters and coffee and checked in on us several times, despite the restaurant being packed on a Saturday morning with a wait of 20-30 minutes. The restaurant's interior is nice and gives off an old style diner feeling (4/5). Overall, it is a solid choice for breakfast! read more

Classic great breakfast with extremely friendly staff. Chorizo hash was all of our favorite. Be prepared for a wait if you go on the weekend. It's efficient so don't be afraid of the line. It's tasty but unsure if it's worth a 30 min long line read more

This place is befittingly a neighborhood favorite. It almost always has a 5 party line at least unless you go very early, but the line moves very fast. I love Pamela's! On the weekends I try to go before 10 AM to get seated without a wait. Today was a great day - our party of 4 got seated right away and our food came out quick. Crepe pancakes were delicious! Crisp on the edges and you could taste the butter from the pan. Servers were attentive and friendly - kept our coffee and waters full. One of my favorite food places in Shadyside. Almost like a must go for me during weekend brunch. My favorite and go-to are their home fries- crispy and well seasoned. But otherwise their menu is pretty typical of a diner menu, eggs, bacon, toast, etc. their hot cakes are good as well, crunchy edges with the sweet syrup. Spacious seating, but I would be wary of how busy it gets in the morning. Friendly staff and quick service times. I would definitely recommend coming here. read more

Definitely a Pittsburgh staple that I am glad I tried. I had the morning after special which is eggs, meat, and 2 hotcakes. The strawberry hotcakes were SO good, very thin and almost crepe like which is not something I normally go for but they were delicious!! The eggs were very average and the sausage was good! My friend had the same special but with chocolate chip banana hotcakes and those were also really good!! Service was good, she recommended both the strawberry and chocolate chip banana hotcakes. Definitely a place I'll come back but I'll probably just get the hotcakes next time. read more

I know this place is famous, but I wasn't blown away--maybe I'm just not a diner breakfast kind of gal. Service was fast and friendly, and I always appreciate a free refill on coffee. Hot cakes were ok, but simply too oily, at least mine. If you feel pressured to go to Pamela's for being a Pittsburg staple, I'd recommend going to the Strip District location: better 50s vibe and perhaps less greasy food. read more

I came in with 3 others at 10am on a Saturday, and we were luckily seated right away. There was a line out the door shortly after. The place has a retro diner feel which fits its extensive history. The prices are pleasantly surprising--I ordered the morning after breakfast--eggs, choice of meat, and 2 hotcakes for $12. I chose scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. I thought the eggs tasted like basically nothing and I had to add a ton of hot sauce. The meat was what you'd expect. However, the signature original hot cakes were out of this world. The edges were thin and crispy, and the middle was soft. The butter and maple syrup were absolutely necessary. Delicious! The service was also super quick and impressive given that the weekend crowd was coming in! I say we have a winner winner pancake breakfast read more

I ordered to go on the app the classic breakfast. 2 crepe style pancakes, lyonnaise potatoes, and scrambled eggs with cheese. I also opted to get some savory turkey sausage in the side. The food was absolutely delicious and the super generous portion was enough for breakfast the next day as well. The crepe style pancakes specifically stood out with crispy edges and a buttery flavor. read more

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this Pittsburgh classic! We've been coming here for years. The crepe style pancakes are our absolute favorites. The way they get the edges so crispy crunchy with the fluffy insides - ohhhhlala. SO good. My sister in law always orders the strawberry hotcakes which are a shocking creation - the mountain of fresh strawberries, brown sugar whipped cream. Yowza. Too much for me - but she looooves them and takes 1/2 home for later. I always order the western omelette- which is fine - with their yummy lyonnaise potatoes - and steal bites of the hubs' hotcakes. Just love this place. The ambiance is total diner. Service in Shadyside is usually good / tho they are still experiencing the Covid-hangover staffing shortages sometimes. read more

Pamela's is a Pittsburgh staple for a hearty, diner style breakfast. You don't come here for health food, you come here for greasy deliciousness - and always leave full. The Pamela's in Shadyside is one large windowless room with a drop ceiling and three columns of tables. There's a serving station and kitchen window in the back. The wall sports some cute murals of different Pittsburghers. Overall the decor is casual and nothing fancy. If you want the same menu with true old school diner ambiance I recommend the original P&G Diner in Millvale. This particular visit was on a cold Sunday morning. We arrived around 9:30a and were able to sit immediately. A line started to accumulate around 10a so if you don't want to wait - plan to arrive before the rush! We ordered several omelette with their classic Lyonnaise potatoes and toast, and the banana walnut pancakes. The portions are always large - if you're a light eater I recommend sharing! The omelettes are wrapped around a generous amount of filling. The potatoes are my favorite breakfast potatoes in the world - perfectly soft, crispy, and buttery. The pancakes are a thin crepe style and I think they're better stuffed with filling than simply on their own. Service was quick and friendly. Our food came out shortly after ordering and there was plenty of staff checking in and refilling our drinks throughout the meal. read more

This was fine. We had the hotcakes which were tasty, but greasy. The eggs tasted like butter, so too heavy. Bacon was smoky, but I liked it. Coffee was on the sour side-- typical of diner coffee. Every time I come to Pamela's, I think to myself, "Will I ever get anything other than 'The Morning After Special'?" And the answer is no. No I will not. The Morning After Special comes with hotcakes (a Pamela's signature), eggs, and your choice of meat. I usually sub in specialty hotcakes-- my hotcakes of choice are the banana chocolate. I believe all of that is somewhere around $13. It truly cannot be beat. I can't speak on any of their other menu items because TMAS is all I've gotten and it's all I will ever need. The hotcakes are a cross between pancakes and crepes. They're super fluffy with a crispy circumference. It feels like something you just have to try at least once if you come to Pittsburgh. That said, I wish they would melt their chocolate in their hotcakes. This seems like such a trivial thing, but when you're chomping down on your sweet hotcakes, do you really want to feel the crunch of those mini chocolate chips? It's not the vibe. It's such a simple thing but I think it would really elevate their dish. Second, I don't know if it's because of COVID, but they served the food on these paper plates which made me feel like I was eating hot dogs in elementary school. It's a diner. I know. But I feel like going out to eat and being given paper plates kinda kicks your excitement down a notch. Some tips if you come here: If you have a big party, come early! We came around 10am and only had to wait around 10min with a party of 5. I've been to a couple other Pamela's locations and all of them tend to have a wait once you move toward popular times, so definitely plan accordingly. I might come back at least one more time before I graduate. Will I venture away from TMAS? Only time will tell. read more

Pretty darned good food! Swung in for a late breakfast after soccer with my son. Seated within 15 minutes. Wow - they are covid SERIOUS! Partitions have been installed between each table setting.
