Valliant's Diner is a true roadside diner. The staff were welcoming and there was a fun hustle and bustle. I enjoyed my eggs and bacon nearly as soon as a sat dahn at the counter. The coffee pot was fresh with a nice aromatic roast. Also, the rye bread they use was hearty. Valliant's Diner is a family-owned 1950s-style diner that was founded in 1968. Current hours are from the early morning to early afternoon from Tuesdays through Sundays (closed on Mondays). A small parking lot is on site. Menu items are very simple, and most cost only a few to several dollars. Breakfast foods include eggs, toast, ham, bacon, sausage, hash, pancakes, French toast, English muffins, bagels, and omelets. Lunch foods include burgers, several types of sandwiches, a gyro, kielbasa, soups, salads, fries, and onion rings. Beverages include coffee, tea, juices, soda, lemonade, and milkshakes. A couple desserts are also available. Please see my attached photos for the full menu and prices. My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times. During our most recent visit, we ate breakfast. We seated ourselves at a table. Minutes later, our waitress arrived to take our order. She promptly brought out our drinks, but we waited roughly 35 minutes for our food. My two blueberry pancakes were a large size, contained many blueberries, and were cooked well. My and my husband's slices of bacon were nicely crispy. My husband said that his ham-and-cheese omelet contained a large, thick slice of ham rather than cut-up pieces of ham, but he liked the flavors. I came here with my family over Christmas break on a Tuesday late morning. It was already packed probably a nice mix of early lunchers and people off for the holidays. It's fairly retro inside and not very big. We were lucky to find a table for the four of us, otherwise I think we would have went elsewhere. I am pretty limited to what I can eat so I knew it would be an egg dish with some potatoes. We waited a while to be waited on. It was packed and with only one noticeable waitress it was inevitabale. Once she brought our drinks we quickly ordered. All the fam got pancakes and the kids also got bacon. I opted for a cheese and mushroom omelet with home fries. We waited quite a while for our meals. The kids entertaining themselves on their phones. When the food came out I will say everyone in my party loved their pancakes. I'm not really a pancake eater, I have to really be in the mood. My food however kinda looked like someone dropped it then scooped it up off the ground and threw it on my plate! Of course I am not suggesting this happened it was just really sloppy looking, but it's the taste that matters right? Well it fell short there too. The potatoes were all different sizes and tasted more like a baked potato cut into many different sized squares, smashed up a little then slammed on the plate. I added a decent amount of hot sauce and salt. The eggs were, well not what I was expecting. I make omelets at home and the stuff goes in the omelet. This omelet was an odd shaped circle and under the eggs was like the Kraft cheese that you pull from a plastic wrapper and mushrooms stuck to the underneath of the eggs. Again the eggs were in need of salt even though there was some really funky salty cheese attached. It wasn't very enjoyable. The rest of my family seemed please so I took one for the team. I had the blueberry pancakes, there was a perfect portion to price ratio, and they came out nice and hot, they were only just "good", or this would be a five star rating, but something tells me this place has a menu worth exploring further. The French toast looked delicious and there were cars waiting in the parking lot at 6 am when they opened, so there is something that makes this place THE spot people get their breakfast. A complete gem in our own backyard and like a step back in time. Everyone there is friendly and accommodating. If you want a darn good turkey bacon club, this is the spot. The ambience is a cute 60's diner, and they have 50 years of experience to come by that honestly. There's lots more parking in the back, don't be fooled by the small lot in the front. We were in the North Hills recently and wanted to check out a new spot, so we found our way to Valliant's for breakfast. This diner embraces its classic flare from both the outside and the inside and the food matches that too. We went with their blueberry french toast which was on special with some sausage links. This was pretty good and definitely filling. We also had their two eggs, bacon and toast, with a side of home fries. This is a simple meal but hits the spot as you get a little bit of everything. If you are looking for a throwback diner, Valliant's Diner is a place to try! The seating is limited, but, it is worth trying. There is counter seating, and some tables for two or four. They might be able to slide a table together to accommodate more. The staff was friendly. And the meals are plentiful. It did take a little bit of time to get our meals after we placed our order. But, they prepare the meals as they are received. And it was worth the wait. Be sure to get here early, because they close at 2:00. I am looking forward to trying it again for lunch. Retro diners are such a gem & this place fits the bill! We stopped by last Friday & were pleased with the precautions the diner was taking due to COVID. Everyone was spaced out inside the restaurant & many of the items we were given were single use (salt, pepper, ketchup, jam, butter) to prevent the spread of germs. This diner has been our favorite in the greater pgh area for a couple years now. It's affordable, VERY friendly staff, perfect asthetic, and the food is just so dam good. They have specials everyday, but my go to is the BELT sandwich... no one makes one as good as Valiant, it hits the spot every time. Breakfast potatoes are always on point too. Coffee is great. Yes, COVID impacted them just like most restaurants. But they executed well, with outdoor seating during the nicer weather, and take out all day. I ate my takeout in the car in their parking lot, so I can't really speak for how well it travels. If you're in the area, I will always recommend this little diner over anything else. A+! read more
