    Greek Hobo Omelette
    Christopher B.

Staple spot in the area serving up great diner food since the 1950's. One of my favorite places to rest and recuperate after long nights in Shadyside (and beyond). This spot still has the old school charm that excites me knowing it's survived the rest of time. I truly needed this meal and it was a Pittsburgh sized helping that got the job done. The Greek Hobo omelette is essentially a gyro in egg for. Just a heavenly combination. Server was very friendly and we chatted it up for a while. Great spot in the community.

Classic diner food and a good breakfast spot. Large menu, something for everyone. Blueberry hotcakes were the highlight, fresh berries and the cakes were fluffy with butter and syrup. The staff was a bit quirky, borderline rude in the short time we were there. Overall, I'd like to try again but for lunch and see if things change.

This place is awesome!!! The staff is so nice and talks to you like family. Ruth was awesome. The food is so good. I brought friends from NJ and they absolutely loved it. The Reuben was great, the meatloaf was awesome, the omelette was delish. Even the home fries were perfect and crispy. The ambiance is great too. It's got old school vibes with the tabletop jukeboxes and the diner bar seating. Love the big space in the back too with so much light. What a gem. I can't believe it took me so long to come here. My partner used to come here all the time in college and loved it. The coffee here is so good too and usually diner coffee isn't!

Good spot for a quick meal. Cash only. Like other places they have raised prices. Just posting updated menu photos.

The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I ordered a feta omelet with onions, mushrooms and spinach with a side of bacon. My friend ordered oatmeal and a side of eggs. Our waitress, Tina was super friendly and the food was delivered quickly. The ambiance is rather sweet meaning there are a lot of repeat customers and you can feel the warmth :) There is free parking in their lot behind the diner. I will be coming back! Give it a try!

Ritter's is one of those classic Pittsburgh diners that just remind you of home and comfort. I hadn't been in years, so we decided to stop in for breakfast a few weekends ago. They have a parking lot across the street which makes it easy to park, especially in Shadyside. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and my husband ordered the corn beef hash breakfast. His came with eggs and toast. Our waitress was great and attentive. Our food came out quickly and everything tasted good. Our total bill was approx $17, so prices are great here! If you're in the mood for some nostalgia and comfort food, be sure to check out Ritter's! Ps- they are cash only, so be prepared. They do have an ATM on site as well.

Perfect diner food. The avgolemono soup is super tasty and the omelettes are great as well. I want to return to have breakfast! French toast ... pancakes ... I'll be back! ;-)

Good service, decent food. The portions were great as well. You get your money's worth with an omelette.

Excellent food, great "diner" atmosphere, and good service. Parking can be limited but there is street parking in addition to their lot behind the building.

Mmm ... delicious buckwheat cakes, western, and dark dry rye.

Now, I am going to take you on a journey just like the books Belle read so strap in. We had a 5:45 PM reservation, and even arrived a few minutes early. The hostess/employee (I don't want to assume positions) took me upstairs for a table right by the window, which will be an awesome view when the construction finishes. It was also a beautiful sight of that part of the city as-is. When I was seated, I was one of a few tables seated. It was not full or even busy at that time. Also, as we were seated, we were given waters. My friend joined me about 5-7 minutes after the reservation time. We then ordered our drinks at about 6:00/6:05 PM. From there, we waited and did not meet our waiter, who will be referred to as sweet baby angel Max from here on out, until about 6:20 PM. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees at around this time. Our orders had some modifications but nothing major. By this time, many more tables were seated upstairs and others seemingly received their alcoholic drinks and even appetizers by the time we received only our drinks around 6:30-6:40. Our drinks were big, too, which is great, but that also meant we had to drink them a little more quickly due to the time constraints with the show. We were enjoying ourselves but noticed multiple more tables receiving not only their drinks and apps but also their entrees. Once 6:55 came, we had to tell sweet baby angel Max about our predicament. I will be honest and say we suggested for our drinks to be comped at least - not only for the wait and lack of courtesy with everyone else receiving their items before us despite our arrival and reservation time, but for the fact that we would have maybe 15 minutes to eat, finish our drinks, pay, take our food back to our cars, and make curtain time. What sweet baby angel Max did next flabbered our gasts -- he said not only will our drinks be comped but our whole meal will be comped. He also helped pack our food and kept it in the back so we didn't have to worry about going back to our cars. We made sure to tip him with all we had! We are so glad we did because when we returned after the show, he had the kitchen remake the food and kept it warm for us. When you go to The Eagle, ask for sweet baby angel Max and you will not be disappointed with him, the service, or the food. Because even when they may mess up? The Eagle gets it right with their classy attitude and positive treatment of their customers. You definitely have multiple return customers just from this encounter. Thank you!!!

I placed an online lunch takeout order recently for a veggie burger with fries. Based on a special instruction I added to the order, the manager called to ask if I was vegan before they made the order since their bun and aioli have egg. Although I'm not, I was so appreciative of the effort they put in to make sure that the order fit my dietary needs! Also, the burger and fries were both cooked to perfection and so tasty. We had a group of 17 people, and they easily were able to get us in! There's a parking garage across the street, so parking was not super difficult. Our group had mimosas and cocktails, which were delightful. Many of us ordered multiple dishes. For my meal, I ordered the quiche as well as the crumpets and jam. Both were tasty and delicious. My husband ordered the brown sugar pop tart, French onion soup, and their famous burger. He enjoyed every aspect of his meal. Our group also tried the pancakes as well as the crab benedict. Both of those dishes were so-so, and I wouldn't get them again! They have a little bakery/cafe on site where you can order pastries. They are also known for their vinegar pie, so of course, I had to try it! It was definitely a different flavor, and I am glad that I tried it. It tasted like a less sweet version of a pecan pie. The vinegar really helped to cut the sweetness. This restaurant was accommodating and the service was great. Their food was good but the company was even better. I will definitely be back!

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.
