    Reuben with fries
    Derek R.

A nice little find on a busy street. Basic mom and Pop diner food. Breakfast all day. Burgers, sandwiches and milkshakes. Counter service or booth service ( booths are rather tight to fit in ) tables are available. Menu selection is decent. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut, and it was excellent just the right amount of thousand island dressing, the corn beef was sliced thin, very tender . The sandwich came with a side of "lunch counter fries" which were hot and tasty . Iced tea was good. Prices were a little high for a diner, but whatnot high in this economy. I was disappointed to see that they do not use Heinz ketchup here in Pittsburgh. My bill was $20.00 with tax and tip. Very friendly waitress, I will return.

We went in on a Sunday morning for the first time. It was buzzing with people in their Steelers gear talking about the game. It's authentic to the diner layout and feel with booths lining the wall and an open kitchen with small bar looking into the kitchen. Food was nothing special. If you're looking for down home food made from scratch this isn't it. The potatoes appeared to be real and cut in house instead of something frozen. It filled us up and made us bloated. We aren't complaining by any means, I felt like I had an idea of what we were ordering when we went into the place. It's a great spot for a quick breakfast if you're in the neighborhood and don't feel like cooking yourself. Service was quick, our waitress kept the coffee hot and checked on us appropriately. We'll definitely be back.

Best diner in Bellevue/ Avalon. The service is quick and friendly, the atmosphere is old school diner, and the food is fresh and what you'd expect from your local diner. Today I had the dari-vila burger. It was delicious. I will definitely be coming back.

    The mighty D-V Burger.

Note #1: CASH ONLY. However, they do have an ATM inside and will give you $1 off your meal if you use it. Note #2: They have a Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dari-Villa-Restaurant/149962818358775#!/pages/Dari-Villa-Restaurant/149962818358775?sk=info For 34 years, this old-fashioned diner has stood in Bellevue, the home of comics artist Ron Frenz, the man who designed Spider-Man's black costume... http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=fullsize&issue=77906321824%20252 Betcha didn't know that. Geekiness aside, I had no idea this joint existed until I used some Google-fu in the hopes of finding some brunch this beautiful fall morn. And find good, good grub we did. When you walk in, you'll find that time is motionless here. Stools that resemble upright dumbbells line a counter over which cooks labor lovingly over a steaming, sizzling griddle. Weathered booths have coat hangers sticking out from behind them. The help are all middle-aged and beyond. You feel as if you've known them for most of your life even though you've never seen them before. We arrived shortly after 11AM, and because of this, I almost ordered breakfast, but my readers know that I can't resist a burger challenge when I come across one. Along comes the D-V Burger, a behemoth with the combined DNA of 5 McDonald's Big Macs and 10 Eat 'N Park Superburgers. It is triple-deckered and quadruple the flavor and texture of any fast food burger. Veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion, and coins of dill pickle) and a "secret sauce" inhabit the first floor. Bread and smashed, blackened, flattop patties of protein rule the rest of this tower. The bun's brown crust is a throwback; its cushiony freshness an inspiration as the dressing remains an exquisite mystery. Upon first gaze, the burger itself was already catapulted into my Hall Of Fame. 20 minutes later, the burger was in my stomach, its soul rising to Diner Valhalla. The side order of fries were commendably, flawlessly golden and crisp. The form of my dessert destructor came from a waffle iron. Enter: The Waffle Supreme. Massive, brown, fluffy, imposing to behold, and resembling the topographical image of a circular labyrinth, the waffle is topped with golden vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, and whipped cream. Having it for breakfast would be oh so inappropriate yet oh so delectably decadent. With two monsters slain, I paid my tab, tipped our waitress well, and headed back to Brookline with Kay behind the wheel. Today was a great Sunday to die. P.S. Kay's corned beef hash was nice 'n crispy. Her biscuits and gravy were homemade heaven.

The Speckled Egg provided the upscale and elevated breakfast, that was a nice contrast to the rustic and local breakfast we had the next day. Our waitress was friendly and professional. After some deliberation, I went with a bowl that included eggs, chicken sausage, sweet potatoes and a nice garnish of dill. The dill surprisingly elevated the whole dish. My wife enjoyed an omelette. Coffee was also quite good! Nice start to a day of sightseeing! (The restaurant staff gave great advice about the nearby tourist attractions)

He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).

We'd probably come back just for this convenience. But I can also see how Federal Galley could have a sports bar feel when a Bucco or Steeler game is going on nearby. That said, the food was just ok. Portions were huge, but the dishes were kind of basic with a ton of sauciness/goopiness. My burrito from Mijo had a ton of chicken but not much in terms of beans and rice and no veggies or garnishes. My wife got a huevos rancheros bowl that just had mountains of sauce; it filled her up, made her very thirsty, and made a huge mess. The kids cheese burger and fries from Triple S was just fine for my daughter but, again, basic.

As soon as my husband and I entered the restaurant, we saw a sign that said to wait to be seated, but an employee soon told us that we could choose our table. Cheese omelette with ham - $12.25 + $3 - 4 stars - My husband said that this omelette was a very large size and that the taste was good. On the side were home fries, which were cubes of potato that tasted very good, and toast, which was toasted well. We paid for our meal up front.
