BLUF: I Hidden Gem neighborhood restaurant. And a wonderful lucky mistake, we lost our way trying to find Subway and came upon Alice's. As a baby boomer you know I had to go in and check it out. What I found is an incredibly quaint., homey, old style diner. I knew it would be good rhe second I noticed all the locals going in there to eat. The food is made fresh to order, the portions are generous, the service is friendly , and the price is right. I had a grilled chicken wrap which was very very good, and the Western Mountain platter is enough to feed two people on top of being delicious. The only catch is that the only take cash. So bring your cash with you. There's also an ATM located inside in case you forget. Not a lot of seats in there so you may end up sharing a table, but that's okay because it's a friendly kind of place. I drive by Alice's all the time and was so excited to finally stop in. This place definitely has the "Cheers" vibe, and it seemed like everyone there was a regular. There were a couple tables open when we stopped in on Saturday morning. We were immediately greeted and waited on, and all of the servers were very friendly. We ordered the kids pancake for my son, and it was huge! We ended up taking half of it home. I had the 2 eggs with toast, bacon, and hash browns, and it was delicious! The bacon was so flavorful and the hash browns were like mini fries. We were served quickly, and you could see that everything was freshly made. This place is a little slice of heaven. Cute little restaurant situated on a corner. Ample off street parking on the side. Smiling faces inside with attentive service. Food is beyond expectations. Cash only. Let's talk about the food. The coffee was hot and the waitress kept our cups full. I ordered the Scotty Omelette. We could see the kitchen from our table. It got my heart strings to see someone physical grate the potatoes that are going into the fryer. At this point I knew this was going to be a good breakfast. The waitress in a timely fashion brought my meal. Wow, it filled up the plate. I peered into omelette and couldn't waste to taste the steak, hot sausage, mushrooms, onions, peppers, mozzarella and horseradish sauce. This is one of best omelets I've ever eaten. That horseradish sauce elevated it. Now the hash browns were one of kind, crunchy and golden brown. Added a little grape jelly to the English muffin, which was toasted to perfection. I couldn't finish all the hash browns. So I was not going to get a slice of one of the decadent cakes sitting on the counter. I can't wait to be back. Can't beat the mom and pop restaurants. This little place is great, just a mom and daughter. They have limited hours, mostly til 2pm daily, but the breakfasts and lunch items are delicious. I got the Scotty, a yummy hoagie with steak, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and a horseradish sauce. A side of loaded fries, with sour cream, bacon, and cheese. The skin on fries are awesome. I was pleasantly surprised at how great Alice's diner food was. The space is small, and quaint. It is one of those restaurants where the servers remember you, and there are a lot of regulars. I sat at the high top bar area, which over looked in to the kitchen. There is no doubt that the servers, and the people making the food (one being Alice, the owner) were hard at work. They were slammed on a Sunday morning, and somehow the kitchen area was still kept super clean (super impressive) The only complaint that I have (not even really a complaint, just a heads up) is that all of the food is prepared on the same cooking top. So if you order pancakes, chances are they were cooked on the same spot as some bacon. I am a vegetarian, but this wasn't an issue for me. However, if you have sensitivities, or are vegan you may want to give your server a heads up. My omelette was one of the best that I have ever had. It was HUGE, and had a ton of veggies on it. In addition, Alice served up home fries with onions and green peppers - made to order on the cook top. Service was great - I never had to wait for a refill on my coffee, and even though they were extremely busy the servers were very attentive and asked me how my breakfast was. I can't wait to go back to Alice's diner, and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to grab some really good diner food, made by people who actually take pride in what they are serving you. read more

Stopped in for a late breakfast. The place is small and it was packed. Many of the tables cleared just after I arrived. My meal of two eggs with bacon, hash brown potatoes and toast was good. However, I did order the home fries and received the hash brown potatoes instead but did not feel like asking for it to be corrected. I do prefer the home fries. Space is small so be ready to make friends or don't be antisocial lol Menu is standard breakfast and lunch eats, but it's made fresh to order. This is much better than your chain restaurants. Came with a basket of thinly cut fries. I noticed the food truck outside advertising "Brick of Fries" which I have see at local food truck events and seems popular and I can see why. Overall I liked the breakfast. Small dining room with about 5x4tops and a 6top. But no waiting to get in for late (10:30AM breakfast) on a Saturday. Honestly a hidden jem!! Everything is home cooked and so delicious!! Their portions are huge and their prices are in line with any great diner. My husband got the hot sausage breakfast sandwich, which we later both went back a week after and got again!! It is served on the softest roll you could imagine, and the hot sausage was pressed flat on the griddle. It tasted amazing!! The first time I got the eggs, toast, hot sausage, and hashbrowns. An amazing amount of food for the price. The hashbrowns are deep fried and taste like potato chips. You can get them with any toppings and are really tasty! The second time we went we took our son, who was treated like royalty by the sweetest waitress you have ever met. They even made him a pancake in the shape of Mickey!! Honestly really good quality food, for great prices, with great service, and a coffee cup that never sees the bottom!! You cannot get a better experience than this. We were at Alice's Diner's and the service was good as well as the food. Yes, you do get nice portions but our 3 meals were just lukewarm. My French Toast was dry (not dipped long enough in the egg mixture, the other two people had pancakes that were very thick, not light and fluffy but were good. My decaf coffee was cold. Alice's is the kind of place you want to keep all to yourself...but that you go on Yelp and give five stars to because you want to see the owners of these little places do well. If I lived near here, though, I'd have a hard time not coming here every single day. We were passing through on our way to New York and chose it based on the Yelp reviews. We were NOT disappointed. I had a BLT on Italian and it was literally the best BLT I've ever had. Such a simple dish but the quality ingredients and perfect preparation here really kicked it into high gear. My husband had a big sandwich called the Scotty Special and a basket of fresh-cut fries with brown gravy. He ate every bite and loved it. Because they asked ;-) we had to try the desserts. Of course, I could see the cherry pie sitting on the counter and you could just tell by how it looked that it was: (1) homemade; (2) had an amazing crust; and (3) was probably delicious. All correct. That's what my husband had. I had the cream puff cake -- which was like a cross between a pie and a cake -- and was amazing. (Also, I still had their really good coffee left and that was perfect with the cream puff cake.) The owner and staff were friendly and efficient so that just tops off an experience that will bring us back to Alice's any time we pass anywhere near Canonsburg. read more

Their hash browns are more like thinly shredded French fries with onions but I liked them. They are serving on paper plates and cups but did have real silverware. What a great place. Let's just start with how friendly everyone there is! We came in and were greeted like family. We got biscuits and gravy-the thing we get at every breakfast place to establish a baseline-and they were fluffy biscuits with creamy sausage gravy-definitely a 5 out of 5! Perhaps the breakfast is why people have given this place such high reviews, but today we showed up at 11:30 and we were told breakfast stops at 11. Which is fine, since this is a diner and should have some good burgers and sandwiches, but we were wrong. I had the Scotty, which was okay but way too much sauce that made the bread mushy, my son's hot dog buns were semi cold, the same for my daughters cheeseburger. The fries though plentiful weren't anything to write home about...Yelp yes, but not home. :) Food took quite a while to come out, server was friendly and seemed to know many people that were in the cramped areas. I had to move to another table because the person behind me wouldn't be able to get out unless my son and I got up during our meals and let them out. I go out of my way to eat and mom and pop places, but this time we were all let down. read more
