We've gone back to Hills a few times now since our last review, and have to say, things have gotten even better. The place is much cleaner and bright, and the service has been much better. We've become addicted to their Spaghetti sauce and their garlic bread, haha. There is something about it that is just addicting. We tried a sampling of their homemade pasta items (gnocchi, ravioli, etc) and found them to be great. I really liked their meat ravioli, and thought the filling was phenomenal. The Chicken Parm was okay, and I would get it again. Not the absolute best I have had, but that sauce sure makes up for that, haha. The soups, as always, are great. read more

This place I've probably passed up over a thousand times and never gave it a double take. We were looking for somewhere to order from and we said something new would be great. My wife said what about Hills, I said sure why not. When I arrived to pick up the food. The lady that greeted me was absolutely amazing. She was one of the nicest sincere people I've ever met before. She helped ring me out, had my order waiting. As I walked in and had an opportunity to glance around the place. I felt like I walked into a movie set of something out of the 1970's. This place could be used for any older movies, it's got the vibe. Very clean inside. We had our food. I had a salad as well as my wife and it was delicious. The other cool thing is that they server breakfast all day long. I think the next time we do breakfast we come here. I'm always one to say do not judge a book by it's cover. I did just that for 15 years. I will never do that again. read more

I haven't been here since 2008 but they are well known for good food. I would meet my aunts here for lunch occasionally and no one ever stared at my one aunt or was rude to her even though she was a 500lb woman and we hat to eat at a table so she could use a chair. She was never able to fit in a booth no matter how she tried to eat right. I was always grateful that she had a place she felt comfortable in public. read more

This is actually a nice little place with good food and nice servers. That isn't it's problem. You never know how long you will wait for your food to arrive. Usually it is quite a bit of time. And that takes into account how many other customers are there and how many I am with. For the amount of business they have and how long it takes for food to come out the time is often mismatched and far too long. I stopped going on my own after I found out they did not take cards. I didn't have cash one time and it was a pain in the butt. You should not be permitted to have a restaurant if you only take cash. read more

Well this is a little hidden gem of a local place. The decor is pure 60s with Naugahyde boots and 50's music playing quietly over the speaker system. The walls are adorn s with old photographs of the local area. I was feeling a bit nostalgic and ordered biscuit and gravy, scrambled eggs and home fries. My military friends will recognize their chow hall staple. It arrived quickly and hot! It didn't disappoint....took me right back to the dining facility which isn't a bad thing! Good, simple, diner fool done right with great service and low prices. Off the beaten path Hill's is in the sleepy town of New Eagle. The decor is American Diner and you can just tell upon entering good home cooking is what you can enjoy here. There are booths and tables as well as a counter bar. The menu isn't very large but the portions are. Pasta of gnocchi, ravioli and more are home made. The sauce is quite good though everyone has a special take on what makes good sauce. The night I was there lasagna was on the menu. Offering of a small or large portion is a nice option because you want to save room for dessert. Home made pies are EXCELLENT and worth saving room for. read more

Breakfast would have been excellent if not for the sub-par bacon. Eggs, home fries, pancakes & sausage were very good. Service was also very good. Bacon was overcooked & just crumbled on each bite. It was probably the worst I ever had. First time stopping for breakfast. I have had good luck with dinner here. Very good pasta & comfort food, but stay away from the bacon. read more

Who has never tried Hills Restaurant in New Eagle? Well, it's a hidden treasure and if u like ravioli's, they are homemade and delicious. Diann Donaldson keeps saying "oh my God" every time she takes a bite. Plus they serve New Eagle Bakery bread. Yummo!!! Good little place to go for breakfast...the prices are very reasonable and the meals are home cooked. Atmosphere is cozy with decor that hasn't been updated since the 60s which gives it a nice feel- like you just walked into Grandma's house to eat. read more

It's pretty clear this place has been a staple for decades now, and the staff are very friendly. I usually have the pancakes when I get breakfast there and the burgers are well cooked for dinner. I can't believe I'm the first to write a review! This is a great local restaurant with good food. There's a special every day, and the menu has everything from homemade gnocchi to hot roast beef sandwiches to meatloaf to homemade desserts. They also have yummy homemade pirogi (which you have to ask for since it actually doesn't appear on the menu). One of the drawbacks here is that once they run out of something, they're out. So don't get your heart set on coconut cream pie until you know for sure they'll have a slice for you at the end of your meal. I go to Hills every time I'm in town. The wait staff are sassy and will engage you if you're up for that kind of banter. It's good, hot comfort food! read more

Went for breakfast the other day for the first times. You can tell the business has been there for many decades because it has an old diner feel. Counter down the right side split by booths and tables down the left. Breakfast menu isn't bad but they only have the norm. Eggs, omelettes, pancake French toast; no biscuits, country fired steak etc. None of the breakfast meals come with potato so you have to add that on which makes a 6-7.00 breakfast turn into 9-10 fairly quickly. My only complaint was the 'French toast' they tried to serve me. It looked like two pieces of bread toasted in the toaster and put on a plate and brought to the table. One bite of that with no syrup got that sent right back to where it came from in exchange for pancakes which were pretty damn good! The service was good, COFFEE WAS GREAT, and the food was decent. I will go back but I won't be ordering the French toast read more

We wandered into this place on a visit to a local farm. It has a lot of regulars, as I'd expect, given it's located in the heart of New Eagle. We had the choice of breakfast or lunch, and I got sausage gravy and biscuits, which were perfect. My husband got the reuben with fries and the chicken & dumpling soup, which he loved. Our toddler love the homemade mac n' cheese, which was actually good (I'm a critic)! They were extremely friendly and service prompt. The interior consists of booths, tables and a counter with stools. There's nothing spectacular about the breakfast menu, but it appears solid, based on my impression and other reviewers We finished with the coconut cream pie and it was amazing--with real meringue on top as opposed to whipped cream. I lived in Monongahela for 5 years and never ate there. Met some friends there for lunch and it was really good! Huge portions, nice servers, and good food. Not for ambiance, but if you want a solid, casual meal, head to Hills. Had the homemade pasta. Good stuff. And they use the old red Coca Cola cups that are big enough that you don't need more than one refill. read more

I live in Nashville TN, but my entire family lives around the Monongahela/New Eagle/Donora area. My Dad LOVES Hill's spaghetti dinner and so for his 85th birthday coming up I plan to buy him a gift certificate. They were very nice on the phone today and told me that although they don't take credit cards for this, they would accept a check from me and then mail the gift certificate to me or to my Dad. My Dad grew up near this area and whenever he was back in town, he'd get either the lemon meringue and coconut cream pie. Recently, we had the joy of going with family ..our first time and we loved it!! Hope to get back there again. Good diners are hard to find, and places that make traditional pies are even harder!
