Cheesesteak and fries
Lynn K.

Finally went to check out this little place that we've passed many times. It's a bar but there are some tables as well. Draft beer was great, served in a chilled glass. They also had some selections in the cooler. We started with onion rings that were just your basic freezer to the fryer. They were ok. I ordered a pizza and while the top looked great, the bottom was undercooked. I think maybe the oven was not hot enough. Hubby had a cheesesteak and said it was delicious. The place had a friendly, small town vibe and it looks like they sometimes have live music.

Banana Walnut pancakes w/ bacon (close) Sausage gravy & biscuits w/ hash browns and eggs. (far)

Service was excellent and quick! We had breakfast and the food was even better 10/10. Actually came here Sunday for the first time and I'm here the following days. Our waitress was Denise, very nice lady! Very attentive. We will be back that's for sure!

Truly a hidden gem. Terrific breakfast food & friendly service! We look forward to revisiting soon.

A wonderful refreshing Blue raspberry alcoholic slushie for this 90 degree day :)

Great food, great service, great price! The breakfast was worth the trip--but I liked the blackberry dessert we got also.

I've been craving a big bowl of their tortilla soup and a buffalo chicken sandwich for years. A recent family outing took us to Monroeville and I knew that we had to eat at Max & Erma's since we were in the neighborhood. The inside is a tad 'odd', with seasonal Christmas lights everywhere decorated in a Fourth of July theme. The table was mildly sticky, the booth seat was mildly uncomfortable, and there was a mild smell of dirty dishwater and/or urine at our seats. All-in-all, the restaurant feels tired and judging by the cleaning products and bucket placed on the ice cream bar, it looks like the workers are used to it being that way. It looks remarkably like the Max & Erma's in Cranberry right before it closed its doors. Service was prompt and friendly. No complaints at all. The food was on point and was as great as I remembered it to be. We got 2 quarts of tortilla soup to go so that we could share the nostalgia with our family and they were equally as smitten. I hope this place stays around and that it gets a little refresher. Generations of yinzers need their tortilla soup, buffalo chicken, and let's not forget those unforgettable cookies to go!

Max & Erma's went from a quaint downtown restaurant to a decent regional chain with pretty reasonable prices. This location was convenient for a bunch of people coming from different directions. They make a great Long Island Iced Tea (not as good as Carl's Tavern, but who does?) and also has some pretty good food. We got some of their fried pickles as an appetizer and wow, they were really good. They could have been bigger pieces of pickle, but they were crispy and not soggy at all. I ordered the Pittsburgh Salad with Grilled Chicken and ranch dressing and it was delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, the service was good and the final bill for all of us didn't break the bank. I'd go back!

Fish dishes were presented with artistic talent and care. Food tasted equally amazing. Ambiance was very romantic and intimate as we were seated directly in front of the fireplace for our visit. Hostess and wait staff friendly, attentive and professional. There was a small volume of free parking available in the rear of the building and some additional a few steps away. First impression was that the color scheme, decorations, and menu all seemed to be dated and uninspired. The staff were polite and attentive. I ordered the salad and Salmon Oscar. The salad was good and the blue cheese dressing I chose was house-made. It was good. My girlfriend got the wedge salad which I think was a bit expensive since it was a $6 up charge for a wedge of iceberg lettuce from the standard salad that came with the entrees. My Salmon Oscar with asparagus was very good. I enjoyed every bite of the salmon and crab. My daughter's chicken parm came with a ton of linguini. My girlfriend got the signature crab cakes which she said were mostly crab and not filler. So while I thought the menu was dated when reading it the food was well executed.

I've been here a variety of times for various situations. Part of a large group event held in the back, just for dinner with friends, a date night and also late night drinks. One thing that was in common with every experience is that the service was on point. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive and they know their stuff. Drinks were refilled efficiently and items were cleared without making you feel rushed. They have a variety of events (live music, themed parties) and also have Italian night with additional menu items. They are known for their pepperoni muffins and I can see why. They are a perfect blend of flavor and there is just the right ratio of ingredients and crisp. Definitely my favorite thing I've tried. I also enjoyed their pizza and their salads. I wasn't a huge fan of the sandwiches (seemed expensive for what you got, but nothing was wrong or bad). They have a parking lot across the street and there is also street parking available if for some reason the lot is full. Overall, a fun place in an area that doesn't have a ton of food options.

Mondays are Italian Nights with loads of Italian menu items so we each had one of the specials. Had salads first which were really good and huge. They came with the specials.
