I was at Leo Greta recently for a birthday celebration of 9 people on a Sunday night. We were originally seated in the 2nd room in the back and there was no working air conditioning that night. First thing that happened was being reprimanded by the hostess for having 9 people and the reservation was for 8. 2nd thing, it was very warm inside, so we requested to be outside, which was wonderful! Our waitress was amazing. My BIGGEST complaint was the serving size! I ordered gnocchi; they were delicious. However, I had approximately 12 gnocchi!! And it cost $25.00!! There was not enough food to justify the price. Thank God there was bread or I would have left extremely hungry and I am not a big eater. And the fact that everything is extra is very discouraging. $12 for a salad, $15 to add a chicken breast. That is outrageous. Im sorry but I will not be going back any time soon..... read more

Cute bistro where we ate a quick lunch between opening (at noon) and a 1pm performance at the Carnegie Stage just down the street. Hubby liked his meatball sandwich. I found the beans in the beans and greens to be gritty; apparently they are unsoaked dried beans, and that's the way chef likes it. It was edible, but I prefer a smoother, softer texture. We enjoyed our experience so much that we came back after the show to the bakery side, where we devoured a slice of blueberry pie with blueberry ice cream on top. We had a great dinner on the back patio at LeoGreta. It's a great space. We started out with drinks, had a nice antipasti plate, and then ordered dinner. I had the Chicken Romano. It was excellent. My wife had the gnocchi and she said it was the best gnocchi she's had. I should mention I started with the cucumber salad. I recommend it. Andrea was our server and she did a great job. I've been here several times in the past and when a few friends wanted to meet up in the Carnegie area, didn't hesitate to recommend it. We tried to make a reservation but nothing was available. My friend insisted on putting our name on a standby list and the restaurant was extremely excited to call us with a cancellation, which they said rarely happens. I was excited to introduce my friends to this spot! Our party was not the easiest as we have a few dietary restrictions, like one GF person and one vegetarian. We wanted a few of the starters and noticed that getting the antipasto might be the most cost-efficient way. My friend asked if we might have all the meat on one plate and the veggies on another to be considerate of the vegetarian (me) and they nicely accommodated that request. The GF friend was excited to order a Dubai chocolate martini as she thought she would be getting these flavors without the dough she can't have, but it came around the rim and sprinkled in the drink and she had to send it back, which they also quickly accommodated. They also had several mocktails on the menu, really nice options made with NA spirits. I ordered one of these. I usually get the gnocchi here but on this visit they had a pasta special with corn that was like a taste of just-ended summer and I went with that. It was delicious and my friends enjoyed their meals as well. There is a dessert bar next door but service on this night was taking an extremely long time so we didn't get into any desserts. Service on this particular visit was not quite what I've been used to on previous visits overall, and one of my friends mentioned it afterward to the GM who was very accountable and responsive. He had also stopped by to personally check on us during our meal, and it's nice to get a sense that a place genuinely cares about your customer experience. I will continue to come back. read more

Leo Greta is one of those places that just does everything right. I had the carbonara, and it was honestly excellent. It was creamy without being heavy, tasted very authentic, and the noodles were homemade. You could tell a lot of care went into it. We also had the pizza bread, which was perfect to share and really well done. They do simple things with really good ingredients and with care from what I gathered I ordered the Dubai chocolate martini and it was really good too. There were a lot of good drink options so I'd imagine there's something for everyone My family had the onion and mushroom soup and loved it as well. Everything that came out was just consistently great. They change the menu often, which I really appreciate, and everything tastes fresh and high quality. You can tell they use good ingredients and actually care about execution. I would absolutely go back and recommend it without hesitation. read more

Tucked away in Pittsburgh's Carnegie neighborhood is a charming little Italian spot called and we went for the first time yesterday! There's a bar in the first room when you walk in and we dined in the adjacent dining room. I did call and make a reservation. Our service was thoughtful and attentive. We all agreed that the food was pretty good and we had no complaints. We took home some leftovers to save room for dessert which was the right move because their desserts were excellent! My friend's chocolate and fudge cake was wonderfully decadent and as a coconut lover, I adored my coconut cream pie with its flaky crust. read more

Our waitress was fabulous! Most everything is scratch made except the Mediterra Bread.. The room is a little loud. We started with the white bean dip that was very good with some nice garlic flavor. I ordered the linguini carbonara here on Thursday night, and unfortunately, it had an overwhelming, harsh odor and taste that smelled and tasted exactly like cow manure. My husband tried some of my dish and immediately agreed. I didn't say anything to the staff at the time because I didn't want to cause a scene, and I wasn't sure whether this was somehow normal since I had never had linguini carbonara. After getting home, I looked into whether carbonara is supposed to have such a strong, foul smell and was shocked to learn that it definitely should not. Apparently, certain aged cheeses can develop high levels of butyric acid, an acid associated with the rancid, manure-like odor I experienced. Whatever the cause, the dish was completely inedible to me. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. My husband had the creamed corn pasta that was a special, it was as if someone cooked some noodles and then dumped half a can of cream corn on top. We were very disappointed as this dish was highly recommended by our waitress. read more

As of January 2025, their menu, which I attached as a photo to this review, lists 5 starters, 3 salads, 6 entrees, 6 sides, and many non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. As you can see, the selection of foods is smaller than what many other restaurants offer. My husband and I ate one dinner here. My husband drank a Coke, and I drank an Italian orange soda. For appetizers, we ate an arugula-radicchio salad (3.5 stars, consider adding more ingredients) and a white-bean dip with bread (4.5 stars). My entree was chicken parmigiano (3.5 stars), and my husband's entree was spaghetti with a meatball (3 stars). My husband said that the foods tasted "average." I will add that all of the employees' service was excellent--very prompt and friendly. read more

While a little noisy, the place has a lot of ambiance. The service is good quality. And it did not feel rushed. The food is all scratch-made here. The prices are higher than other places, but the food is absolutely excellent. Their gnocchi is *superb*, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Some places have denser gnocchi but this place's gnocchi is perfect. Their meatballs are tasty as well, and their sweet fennel sausage is amazingly tasty and fragrant. 5/5, would give more stars if I could. read more

Every time I eat here it is a delicious experience! Pros: so much of their food is made from scratch, from the pasta to the sauces. They grow their own tomatoes and vegetables on a farm south of Pittsburgh, and their bread comes from Mediterra, one of my favorite bakeries. Their staff always goes above and beyond, their house specials are so original and feature their in-season vegetables. When I ate here they had a corn cream pasta with goat cheese. They boil whole corn on the cob in cream. And then cut the kernels into the cream when it is done. I do not like goat cheese (even that is homemade), but I tried it on top and it paired well with the food. I never would have thought to try a corn cream sauce over cavatelli with goat cheese, but was so glad I did. Cons: my complaint is always the music. Great Italian restaurant playing 70's rock just seems out of place. Summary: maybe someday I will have an average meal here, but, until that day, LeoGreta is 5 stars all the way. Great family-owned Italian restaurant in the heart of Carnegie. The homemade pastas and secret family recipes make this place truly special. Service is friendly and attentive. Even without a reservation, there is plenty of seating in the bar area or the other two main dining areas that are next door to their bakery and dessert bar. Portions are adequate - we can usually finish our meals without needing to-go containers, even when sharing a house meatball (highly recommend!). I have posted about LeoGreta in the past, and they continue to have amazing food and superb service. However, I'm posting about the updates to the space, which have made it even better. The expansion with the full bar is so nice and the Dessert and Bakery Bar was so cute! So Bobbie suggested we can either have dessert in the restaurant or we could check out the dessert bar. We decided to go over and check it out. The nice thing is you can take drinks from dinner over because it is all connected. The atmosphere is cozy with a variety of armchairs, tables and chairs. They have a variety of drinks and desserts to choose from. The tiramisu I had was delicious! We even said it would be so relaxing to just stop down for a glass of wine and sweet treats! read more

Showed up for dinner this past Wednesday around 5:30. We didn't have a reservation and because of that they only had bar seating available for us. It wasn't a problem, as a petty of 2, because the bar is actually quite wide and we could talk to one another side by side. Though, if you have a group larger than 2, I'd strongly recommend making a reservation. Our bartender was very friendly and attentive. She made us decaf espresso martinis quickly and got our order in for the white bean dip as an app. The martinis were strong both in espresso flavor and in alcohol content. We enjoyed them, but both agreed we prefer ours to be a little more frothy and to have a chocolate component. Just personal preference! The white bean dip came with the perfect kind of bread for dipping - the inside was soft, but the crust had a nice crunch. The dip had good flavor and was really similar to hummus. For our mains, I had the cavatelli & sausage and my friend had the spaghetti and meatball. My pasta was amazing. It was creamy and buttery, was sprinkled with parmesan cheese, and the cavatelli had the nicest chew to it. The sausage was in bite sized chunks and slightly spicy. My friend said her spaghetti and meatball was as expected. The meatball was not falling apart and was seasoned well. I took a stroll over to the dessert case, at the end of our meal, and decided I had to leave with a pecan turtle and a buckeye. If I had more stomach space available, I certainly could've done more financial damage. Everything looked delicious. Would definitely recommend for a nicer dinner spot! read more

Was dying to try LeoGreta as I've heard wonderful things over last several years! Finally made it there for a date night with my husband. We tried the gnocchi, linguini carbonara, and panna cotta for dessert. The gnocchi was excellent! I also enjoyed the linguini carbonara but there wasn't a ton of other elements in the linguini aside from the noodle and the sauce (was just ok). Panna cotta was very good too! All of the staff were very friendly and attentive and overall we had a great experience and the owner/chef came out after our meal which was the best touch! Reservation was made in advance for our party of 4, we went on a Wednesday and it seemed pretty busy! Our waitress was knowledgeable, honest, attentive, and nice. No complaints about the service! We were given bread for the table, made from Mediterra so it's local! I didn't have any, but the table seemed to like it! I ordered the mushroom and onion soup that was on special that week. It was very flavorful, felt like a mushroomy french onion soup! Tons of onion slices and mushroom, thinner broth. My only complaint was with plating, the bowl was too shallow for a soup, it was hard to scoop it all up into my mouth!!! HA but I would order this again for SURE! For dinner, I ordered the cavatelli and sausage. The portion was honestly a good size for me, on the rare ocassion that I didn't share with my husband! It was JUST ENOUGH, no leftovers and didn't leave me completely stuffed either. Keep the portions in mind when ordering! This pasta had perfectly cooked noodles, a meaty sausage, some greens, and cheese. It tasted very good, I would get it again but next time 2 different ones to split/share! The bakery next door is owned by them, so they make all the deserts. We could either order from a small desert menu at our table, or walk over to the bakery and order from there to go, They have some seating in the bakery as well but it was packed that night. The bakery has way more options than the menu at the table suggests. I ordered tiramisu to go. It was good, but nothing to write home about really. Had the White Bean Dip, Burrata, Linguini Carbonara, Chicken Parmesan & Corn Cream Cavatelli. Wow-this was all so delicious. You can tell everything is truly fresh and homemade. The Corn Cream Cavatelli was probably my favorite- it is one of their seasonal dishes made of cavatelli noodles, a white sauce, corn and goat cheese. These flavors were exceptional. Then we checked out their Bakery and had to share there too! Tried the Pie of the month which was Candy Bar, then their homemade Banana Cake & Tiramisu! Everything was so delicious.
