Incredible dining experience at Angelo's. We loved the atmosphere of this place. Our party of four was seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Our server was friendly and immediately greeted us and took our drink orders. She returned with our beverages brought us some bread as well. We began by ordering an appetizer of Batter-dipped Fried Zucchini. It was delicious! After we had finished it, our entrees were served. I chose the Veal Parmesan, my wife had the Eggplant Parmesan, our daughter opted for the Grilled Salmon Ala Angelo, and her friend selected Spaghetti and meatballs. We all loved our choices. Perfectly lovely lunch on a Monday! We've been to Angelo's for dinner, but rarely for lunch. Today was a reminder to be back again at lunch time. We just had appetizers, and even then brought some home to have for dinner later. I got stuffed mushroom caps (mmmm, that crab stuffing!), hubby got a marinara & mozzarella flatbread (w/ pepperoni), and we got an order of fried mozzarella to share. I don't ordinarily get fried mozzarella, but Angelo's has the BEST! We topped off our lunch with gelato (natch!): lemon sorbetto for him, strawberry pretzel cheesecake for me. Oh. my. gosh. I could've eaten dessert and been done! People talk about the ambiance -- sometimes negatively -- but for us, it was pleasant and a bit romantic, even for a lunch date. Kyle, our server was on point at every stage. (He's the one who suggested the strawberry pretzel gelato. Good call, Kyle!) All in all, a lovely Monday lunch. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. Unfortunately it wasn't as great as I hoped. I got the angel hair spaghetti with a dab of ricotta as did my SO. He also two meatballs, which upped his meal by $8! For two medium sized meatballs. They tasted okay but not anything special. He gave me a taste of it. Waitress asked if we wanted an appetizer and we got two soups. It was my fault for reading the menu wrong, I didn't realize the two bland with dry chicken wedding soups were $8 a piece! I thought it was $8 for both. I thought okay, spaghetti for like $11 plus the $2 for ricotta. Why not? Got unsweetened tea and it wasn't real good. I liked that they served bread but the outside of the bread was so hard. I just ate around it. I'm sure that's how it's supposed to be and it did help when I dipped it in my soup. There were tons of people there and it was pretty inside with good service. We got the tomato sauce vs marinara because it was supposed to have a deeper flavor. It did not. Our pasta tasted like they didn't strain all the water out. My SO didn't get enough sauce and we were both disappointed. We got the flourless cake with mint Gelato. It was very tasty. The mint tasted a bit like mint tooth paste to me but the dessert was the highlight of the meal. I asked if they take visa e gift cards and they said no. I get awardco points at work that let me transfer them into e gift cards, it sucked that I couldn't use it. Especially since the bill was waaay higher than I expected. I thought maybe $40. Nope. $69! For Two people. The wedding soup was definitely not worth $8. Maybe $4. If we go back it'll just be for dessert... maybe. The spaghetti was nice and hot though, but I feel like jar sauce that we use at home was better... So after a tip and everything, $80! I didn't realize it would be so expensive. It wasn't like a super fancy place. It was a little awkward to be seated in the back right next to another couple. But I could see they were busy. Maybe if we go back we will try the lasagna or something. I don't want to write a place off just because we didn't like one dish. Need to try more of the menu. The ambiance was the same as most, nothing remarkable here. The service was good, very pleasant server who was efficient. Being Italian, I tend to be critical at times, keep in mind, I do review fairly. The breaded zucchini appetizer was excellent, thinly sliced with yummy breading and crispy edges. Had an errand nearby and remembered Angelos's from a business lunch with colleagues from the area - "the place with good desserts" is what I remembered. Some things should stay a memory. My experience was not good and based on that I recommend you avoid this restaurant. AMBIENCE: My overall impression was, this is a place in a bit of a decline and needing to penny-pinch where they can. On the good side ... wherever I looked seemed clean, the tables were set, and the air conditioning was on and set to a nice temperature. The desserts were up at the front in a nice display. There's plenty of parking available, and it has a patio (though no one was using it when I was there). On the not so good side ... I arrived around 2-3 PM. The restaurant was shockingly dark - the lighting was so dim a woman who was exiting with a walker was getting verbal instructions from her friend. With no window light reaching my table it felt dreary. I could read my menus but I could not have read anything denser, like a book or a work document. I assume they were trying to save on the energy bill. As for the "crowd" ... 2-3 PM is kind of a dead zone between lunch and dinner so it is hard to fault them for not having a lively crowd, but that factored into things - there were just a smattering of tables, I'd put the average age at "long since retired." No shame in that, I hope to be dining out at that age! But it is a bit of a tell in my book that there wasn't more of a mix of ages. Food menu was nicely printed in a leather-esque covered volume. Drink menu in a similar book but it looked like it had updates that were printed from a desk printer and slipped into a sleeve. That's being nit-picky - better to update a menu than to make the servers have to tell each party additions and corrections or clutter the table with promo tents. I think this is why restaurants are choosing either to move to online menus (which wouldn't work for this clientele) or smaller menus / menus that only highlight weekly or monthly specials instead of fancy-printed menus that are expensive to swap out. SERVICE: Fine marks here. There was a rather large amount of servers relative to the number of diners, and I did not have to wait more than a couple of minutes at any stage - order taking, beverage, bread, entree, check. Nice manners too. The only note I'd have was my server never asked me how everything was -- not after bringing me my meal, nor later when collecting my plate to wrap. I clearly had barely touched my meal, so perhaps she didn't want to hear the answer! She did ask me if I wanted any dessert, though. And she wrapped my leftovers incredibly well in a sturdy to-go box with foil to prevent anything spilling or seeping out (foreshadowing!). FOOD: With tip, I spent $30. This got me: one ice tea, one basket with two pieces of bread with butter, and one pasta entree: fettucine alfredo. The tea was nice, with a fresh lemon slice, and the bread was soft. But my entree was terrible; I had about three bites and called it quits. I took it home but it was no better there; I had my son try it and he agreed, so we threw it away. The problem was the sauce. Per the menu, it is butter, heavy cream, parmesean. Per our taste buds, it is oil and heavy cream, with perhaps a bit of parmesean. It had a sour taste, not a parmesean taste. And it was soupy. My theory -- and this is just my imagination, but it would explain things -- is that many people in the past were adding chicken as a protein, and if ever it was chicken breast that came out a little dry, people would ask for a bit more sauce, so over time, that became the default amount and style: more and wetter. Like I say, this is just my imagination -- but whatever the origin story, what I had today was not good -- I cannot say it was "hearty," because it was too soupy and had that sour note. Reheating the leftovers you saw all the oil/butter, and that didn't help matters. It did seem like the fettuccine noodles themselves were on the good side, - they had a good texture - but I couldn't really taste them in that sauce. Because the entree was bad, I wasn't about to spend more money there, so I left without dessert. After I paid I saw one of the other servers bring a tiramisu out to another party. I only saw it from afar, but it looked good. Perhaps if I'd ordered just that and a coffee I'd be writing a better review. And maybe their other entrees are great; they have a big menu. But they served me that alfredo sauce, and charged me a pretty penny too, so they have to answer for it, and it was terrible. CONCLUSION: Clearly, I felt wronged enough to get online and spend a half hour writing this negative review! I hope I have documented things clearly so you can make your own decision. Based on my entree, I felt robbed. I did not have a $30 experience. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, but if nothing else, take my advice and avoid the alfredo. read more

Stopped by hear on our drive home. Was surprised to have gotten bread at the table. I just chose an Italian place nearby that seemed to have decent lunch options. One good thing was the portion size, I definitely had a large portion of fish for my sandwich. Price was good as well. However, food tasted ok. Nothing special. As you enter the bustling business you immediately see the Gelato stand which warms your taste buds for what will be an amazing dinner. We started off with a delicious plate of calamari and finished with Lasagna & chicken parmesan. (Pictured) The sauce they make has a bit of spiciness to it but I loved it. We were all stuffed, but managed to save a little room for their wonderful flourless chocolate torte with a side of coffee gelato. Best dessert I've ever had! This was a very easy experience. I asked the locals where to eat; they suggested here. Upon arrival, I was nervous our party of 5 would need reservations on Black Friday at 4:30, but we were sat basically within minutes. I would say the only down fall was their lack of appetizers. I think there were about 7 and none of them were appetizing to me. Now that I have that out of the way, the rest was wonderful. I ordered veal which they let you choose from a variety of noodles - appreciate that. They also have a creamy Italian house salad dressing which I appreciate. Coke products are great and the coolest thing was our server allowed me to secretively pick up the bill when I "went to the bathroom." I have never had Italian like this before. The restaurant was super cute and the food was PHENOMINAL. The Portabello Chicken was so tender and juicy I could cut it with my fork. The garlic mashed potatoes were to die for and I would recommend this place over and over again. The prices are pretty comparable to Olive Garden I would say but the food is WAYYYYYY better. I also had the Fried Calamari-super yummy not chewy at all (I can't stand chewy calamari) and the Tiramisu- I loved that it wasn't super sweet just the perfect balance. My husband and I ate here for the first time last night. We ordered the calamari appetizer. It was delicious and plentiful with nice chunky marinara. It easily served the four folks at the table. My boyfriend surprised me with a date here I was pleasantly surprised. Although the location is unassuming, once you walk in the interior it's very warm and accommodating to multiple occasions, ranging from our date to a family dinner, to prom. This is a good location for both casual family dinners and romantic gestures. The staff is truly what brings this place to above and beyond. The food was served on time and warm; the Mariana specifically stood out to me. We were so well looked after on top of the yummy food I felt well taken care of. We were driving through Western PA, and decided to dine at this restaurant based upon a recommendation from a friend. The recommendation was spot on! To start with, the restaurant offers a nice atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and attentive to your needs. Just a nice place to dine for any occasions. The menu offered was very diverse. It was almost difficult to make a selection as everything sounded so flavorful. Once the entrees came out, it did not disappoint. Portions were very large, and dishes were packed full of flavors. Be sure to save some room, as you really need to try their gelatos. You can also order gelato to go in quart sized containers. Overall pricing was quite fair, as compared to similar restaurants. I've been a regular at Angelo's for over eight years now, and when you consider that half that time I lived four hours away and the other half, six hours away, you'll understand how special this establishment is. Like fine wine, it just gets better with time. We invariably plan our vacations to allow for at least one meal at Angelo's plus a huge take out order to stock the freezer to hold us over till the next visit. My mouth waters at the memory of the tender and richly sauced veal piccata. The ravioli, too, is memorable- big and plump, and Angelo's tomato sauce is something to write home about. Also love their spicy Italian sausage. So much to choose from! Desserts are out of this world. The rich three-layer cheesecake deserves an award. If you're too full, take a slice home- you'll thank me later. Try the walnut farina torte, too. It is an old family recipe that's light and sweet with a lovely delicate crunch. The aromas of Italian cooking and fresh baked bread surround you. The dining room is warm and has a welcoming, old school feel. The bar is elegant. And the service is excellent- so attentive, kind, and enthusiastic. If anything at all is less than perfect (which is rare) they will go above and beyond to make it right. Wow! Living in Pittsburgh I never would have known about this hidden gem. What a wonderful first time experience. First off, the staff are wonderful. I called to make a reservation (their website recommended) and Donna who answered the phone was so lovely. Instant hospitality bonus points for me. The atmosphere felt upscale, but comfortable. I loved seeing the old photos on the walls from when the restaurant first opened in 1940s. Just knowing the restaurant has been a staple in the community for that long is so neat and cozy feeling. We ordered drinks and an appetizer (fried calamari) to start. They bring bread and butter to the table as well. The fried calamari was so perfectly done. It wasn't over breaded, and the calamari was tender and not chewy at all. The portion size was very generous! We were afraid we weren't going to be able to finish the the calamari, but the longer they sat on the plate in front of us, the more they continued to disappear! The menu is decently sized, so check it out before heading in if it's your first time!! The server was happy to read off their specials - I went with their salmon and sun dried tomato with risotto. Husband went with the shrimp Scampi off the regular menu. Both dishes were excellent and perfectly cooked. You could tell the noodles were house made. Again, generous portions and delicious flavors. The salmon paired with the lemon sauce was melt in your mouth perfection. We of course had to try the gelato, which was also delicious. Our lovely waitress even brought out slices of their desserts on a plate to show off and make us drool even more. I went with the flourless espresso torte and mamma Mia gelato (cherry with chocolate flecs). It paired PERFECTLY with the torte! My husband got a slice of cheesecake with the s'mores gelato. Everything was simply excellent! What an amazing first time experience. The hospitality, menu options and flavors, and overall atmosphere really make this place a winner. We came here for dinner to celebrate my nieces graduation. We were seated in a private room which was nice because it was a busy night. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The menu is pretty standard for an Italian restaurant. We ordered the fried mozzarella to start out with. It was pretty good. The fried mozzarella was tasty just wish that it was served with more sauce. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and enjoyed it. The portion was huge and the sauce was delicious. I went with angel hair pasta for the side and it was really good too. We did go with dessert since we were celebrating. The cheesecake and tiramisu are mouth watering.
