I heard very good things about Cherry Tomato, but I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong meal or if I am just used to restaurants that serve fresher ingredients. The garlic bread was good, a little burnt, but nothing to badly that I wanted to send it back; the red sauce that it came with was delicious. It reminded me of the red gravy my best friend's Nonna would make on Sunday for dinner. I figured I would try the house favorite, Pasta Felese. The bow tie pasta tasted like it was from a box. The artichokes were very salty (probably from the brine in the can) the chicken was dry, and sun-dried tomatoes were barely noticeable. The pesto white wine sauce was more of a soup. While the flavors were decent, I would rather see seasonal ingredients that would really make this dish zing. This is a neighborhood restaurant and I imagine a lot of the locals love Cherry Tomato, but it just was not my favorite Italian. I've not been here before and decided to order takeout so I'm not sure what the dine in experience is like. It must've been really busy. I had called 3 times and could only order online. I typically like to talk to a human when it's my first experience just due to be able to ask questions and ensure my order is correct. I settled for online ordering. I ended up ordering the Alfredo and an order of the garlic bread. It was ready when it was stated and was paid for online so quick to pick up. The garlic bread was super tasty and baked so that the crust was crunchy. The Alfredo was basic but hit the spot. I added some pepper to it. I also had enough for leftovers. I'd eat here again! Came on a Wednesday night and it was packed! Good for them. Lots of different types of groups,too, families, dates, older ladies. They've got a sizeable menu and white sauce, red sauce, seafood and meat options. The garlic bread for the table is 4.95 and pretty large for two folks. Ordered the signature dish pasta felese, my favorite. Delicious as usual but there were few artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and peas so mostly bow tie pasta and cheese. Chicken was $4 extra and the few pieces were not the hearty breast slices that make the dish delicious. You can sit at the bar and most likely be greeted with a warm interaction from Tom the owner, who genuinely wants to know how your food tasted. Jess the talented and personal bartender knows exactly when to offer you another round whilst being responsible and also gracious about providing a tiramisu to-go when coming in at closing. This quaint Italian place won Westword's best pasta restaurant in 1988. I had a chef special ravioli in spicy Alfredo type sauce with sliced sausage. It was delicious and filling. My partner had the meat lasagna and took half home. It was quite hot, they have no A/C, ruining the ambiance. Do not come here when it's hot. Takeout would be an option. read more

Friend and I stumbled across this place when we were in the area. This is a fun little gem hidden in Park Hill. We split a Caesar salad and each got an entree. Portion sizes are HUGE. The pasta Felese had a delicious cream sauce. I meant to ask for no peas, (my fault!) but I was able to move them to the side. Prices are reasonable for the area and the wine list has a wide variety of price ranges. Our server was also very friendly and attentive. My only complaint was the garlic bread - it's not complimentary. I think they should mention this when they ask you if you want it. It was also overdone and starting to burn. Still edible, but not worth $4.95. If you are in the area, check it out, but skip the garlic bread. read more

This is long, LONG overdue... my visit to this particular establishment was pre-COVID, so no "safer at home" orders had been implemented. Anyway, some family were in town for a visit and wanted to get together for dinner. We don't get to see each other too often, so I was stoked at the idea of getting together with everyone. They decided on the Cherry Tomato in downtown Denver; I'd never been, so I was looking forward to having the experience. From where I live, the restaurant is about a 30-40 minute drive. Nestled in the heart of downtown Denver, street parking is pretty abundant, and the hustle is real. I was lucky enough to find a curb to leave my car a block or so away from the restaurant, so I didn't have too far to walk to meet up with my family. We had dinner reservations, and when I arrived, the dining area was just starting to fill up - some of my family are early eaters lol, so this was a bit before the dinner rush many of us may be used to for a Denver restaurant. First impressions: the kitchen is wide open and very visible when you first walk in. I've always been a fan of open kitchens because I personally feel as though this adds a sense of transparency, and I get the feeling that the owners take great pride in exhibiting just how clean and well put together their kitchens are. It makes me feel as though there are no "dirty" little secrets they are trying to hide, so to speak. I've never been to Italy, and I can't honestly say I have ever had a legitimate Italian-esque experience here in the states. But, from my perspective, this hit pretty close to what I think I would expect. The decor is well put together and gives guests the feeling of being away from the grind of a city, and the atmosphere is pretty open an airy. We started with a couple bottles of wine, and proceeded to do engage in the typical chit-chat you'd expect from those that needed to catch up with one another - it was great. Our wine was promptly delivered to the table, and it didn't take too long for all of us to decide on what courses we'd be devouring in the near future. I decided on a pasta dish with sauteed mushrooms and garlic in an interesting oil-based sauce. My cohorts chose a wide variety of dishes - chicken piccata, eggplant parm, gnocchi with red sauce, salmon and polenta... and we were all very happy with our choices. Despite the fact that there were seven of us in the party, our meals were placed before our hungry faces quicker than we were expecting, and they were all fresh and piping hot to boot. Some of my siblings are the exact opposite of picky, but everyone enjoyed their meals immensely. One note I'd mention is that the portion sizes at this place are pretty generous, so if you're not a huge eater, you'd easily be able to make another meal out of your order, which I love! Overall, I'd say we had a good experience: the staff was friendly, the dining area and restrooms were very clean, and the flow of time seemed to coincide perfectly with what a great restaurant experience should strive for. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely like to visit again, and I'd suggest you do the same if you have the opportunity! read more

This place was okay. I can't rate the food but the wine was pretty good. The main draw back I had was that the service wasn't that good. We had a large table and our orders got mixed up a few times. However, it turned out to be much longer than that, more like an eternity. The primary cause of the long delay was the lack of tables suitable for larger parties, as majority of the tables were only meant for four people. The quality of service was average, although the staff made an effort to provide satisfactory assistance.It was pretty busy. Fairly high priced noodles in my book. My group and I were trying to decide what restaurant to try out on Friday night, the options ended up coming down to a few and The Cherry Tomato won! Nestled in Park Hill, this property lights up the street corner. I walked in and was welcomed, led to a table and given my drink menu. After deciding on drinks, we were brought a bread basket and given some time to look over the menu. Our server, a gentleman who's name I don't recall, gave us the most amazing suggestions based on what we like and what we have had before. I ended up getting the Seafood Fettucine "peciale and it was everything I needed in my meal. Lots of chicken and veggies in a light pesto cream- not too rich. The boy got the carbonara and also loved his. They bring you tons of bread and oil/balsamic while you wait.
