Bahn mi with pork is nicely seasoned and the crepe with grilled shrimp was good as well. Worst phad thai I have ever had. Ordered it very spicy, which the waitress assured me it was upon delivery to the table. Literally tasted like nothing. I had two bites and stopped eating. It had zero flavor - even the peanuts didn't taste like anything. I tried adding sambal and Sriracha and it just didn't even work. Service was only okay. I know it was within closing hour but we didn't get even any water refill and when we were done we sat there, gazing at the nature show they were playing on the TV while the servers started stacking silverware. Not busy, only one other table. We eventually got up and went to the register because I guess that is how you have to do to settle. Probably won't be back for a long time - there's so many other restaurants in the area for me to get a bahn mi. And probably phad thai when I want a good one lol. This is the first Vietnamese restaurant I have tried! We had #11 hu tiu xaı thap cam (chicken and seafood with hot noodle) and #23 Bun bo nuong (beef skewers with cold rice noodle). Both were delicious but I don't enjoy cold noodle much. And passion fruit juice was awesome! The prices are good, especially considering that it is on University district! Dirty Strip Mall food I ended up at this Vietnamese restaurant on a Friday night because the wait at the Tamarind Tree around the corner was out the door. My boyfriend and I were famished and expected the standard Vietnamese fare. When we arrived we were quickly seated and I visited the restroom. This was the dirtiest bathroom in a restaurant I've seen in a long time. I'm saying Filthy. I didn't want to touch anything. I was disgusted. We ordered our food and I had ordered the beef Pho. When it arrived it had an addition of Tripe a common meat added to Pho, but nothing I ever order. I begrudgingly removed the intestines from my food and began eatting. My boyfriend did enjoy building his own fresh spring rolls in rice paper, though. The worst thing that solidified my disgust for this restaurant was the COCKROACHES scurrying around the food service window, where the servers pick up the food from the kitchen. This is the very first time I have ever seen COCKROACHES in a restaurant that I've eatten at. I do not reccomend this place at all. If you are in the area wait for a table at the Tamarind Tree or go have Chinese across the street at the Seven Stars Peppers. But for goodness sake don't put your self through the hell of eatting at this place. read more

I don't know if this restaurant is related to the one in the UD, but it's the only Thanh Vi I've been to. The food is great, but honestly, I haven't tried everything. AAMOF, I usually only get one thing: the Beef Sate Special pho (#38). Add some hot pepper sauce, ask for some basil leaves and you are good to go! Beef, lots of rice noodles, beansprouts, crushed peanuts, maybe some lettuce and a slice of cucumber, all in a delectable broth that will fill you up and clear your sinuses. Any of the barbecued meats and rice also make a fine dinner. When I used to work in the SODO area, I'd call my order in and it'd be ready sooner than I could get there. They are fast, cheap, good and more than happy to serve you. read more

My experience here is somewhat limited, but it was ok. I came here one afternoon with a friend. She hadn't eat lunch yet and I had brunch so I just got veggie spring rolls. The spring rolls themselves were on par with just about anywhere else I've had them. I ordered a thai iced tea and the waitress forgot about it. I had to ask for it later on and in the mean time didn't even have water. There was tea but it was a warm Seattle day and hot tea was not appetizing. When my thai iced tea came, it was a bit watered down tasting. Overall, not a bad place, but not very memorable. Maybe if I had an actual dish of food I'd have a different opinion. read more

I think the noodle with grilled pork and vegetables might be their best dish. The mango salad was good too. The worst dish was the seafood canh chua I ordered through Grubhub last night. It took them forever to prepare to be ready for delivery. I was disappointed when it came, missing the rice that I put in the order. I really regret putting my rice in it, the soup was awful . Not only was it not sour like the Vietnamese name, it was sweet. Don't advertise this as Vietnamese canh chua because it's not. Canh chua literally means sour soup in Vietnamese. This was not made with tamarind, this soup should have sour tamarind in it. I suspect they took a pho broth and added a few ingredients and extra sugar and try to pass it off as canh chua. read more

The outside of this place will have you at first rather second guessing your choice to dine here but trust me, once you've gotten past the ghetto parking lot and overly chemically saturated nail salons you're steady. I had ordered up a few fresh spring rolls to try out, nothing amazing, but a good refresher to an appetizer. Between my boyfriend and myself, I had gotten a "dry" noodle bowl packed with lettuce, sauce, shrimp, and noodles. Great portion sizes. And I couldn't help but steal a few noodle bites across the table and found my boyfriend's beef pho delish without being over powered with spices. Didn't get a chance to try the fresh bubble teas, they looked perfectly melded together with bright fruits and boba. The service was the only bit lacking here. We arrived late in the evening very hungry. Our orders were taken right away and the server was very nice. I ordered combo 1 under the build your own fresh rolls menu. SO DELICIOUS. The shrimp on sugarcane, pork meatballs, steak on skewers were super delicious and it was fun to put all the ingredients on the plate together in different ways. I work in the area and have sampled many a Little Saigon banh mi. Thanh Vi's is my favorite! I know crunchy bread is a little more common/traditional, but if you're not a fan of the crumbliness like me, come to Thanh Vi! The bread is soft but not at all soggy, and very fresh. Their spring rolls are also way more flavorful than a lot of others in the area, and I love the coconut curry with tofu. Most importantly, I have no idea how people have had issues with the customer service. I've been here multiple times a month for like a year, and the main waitress is so warm and charming every time. We love coming to this place to meet with our friends and family. The establishment is clean, updated decor from years ago, tables are well spaced background noise is minimal and service is friendly. Food has always been good. We have been to the Trendy Tamarind Tree many times but the food there is OK, prices are a little higher there it's a little crowded and busy...so we prefer to go around the Corner to the Thanh Vi. We loved their Calamari w/dipping sauce and the spring rolls. Their Seafood Hot Pot was something new for us. Plenty for 5 adults to share. I came with a delicious broth, a platter of raw meat and seafood and a platter of fresh veggies. It was nice to see how fresh your food is and to then cook it as you are eating so that nothing is overcooked. Their Charbroiled Pork and Short Ribs are our usual favorite picks. We tried the Drunken Crispy Chicken but that was OK as it was slightly Chewy but flavor was good. The Grilled Green Beans was VERY tasty (far better than PF Changs) read more

Thanh Vi just recently re-modeled (in order to compete with the pretentious Tamarind Tree, I guess) and so the interior decor is nice and they got fancy plates and all now. . .but the bottom line is that the food is still good and they didn't jack up the prices. Service usually sucks but then again this is an Asian restaurant; don't come here for the service, come for the food! Our poor server was the only server in the joint and only spoke a small amount of English (and was probably way underpaid and overworked). She was nice but also busy and harried. She had ten tables to attend to on a friday night. Some other jackass couple walked out because they didn't 'get their water in time' and felt the need to inform the server of this as they walked out the restaurant (probably to ride away on their high horse). My friend and I went and we were beyond disappointed. I'm not sure if the service or the food was worse. For a while it was just my friend and I were the only patrons in the store and they lagged on getting to us. Literally gave us water then disappeared. Then when they did He ordered friend calamari. I ordered breaded prawns. Those were fine. It then took them forever to put in our order for the main course when we told them we only needed all of 2 minutes to decide. 2 minutes to them meant 20 minutes again. At this time 3 customers come to sit in and eat and they are all together. Now its my friend and I and then the other table. I ordered Bun Bo Hue and he doesnt even understand the words bun bo hue as if it was not on the menu. He then goes on break and another lady comes out with my food in a bag and said thank you heres your check. We look at her in confusion and say we ordered our food to eat now. She goes you told me to go. I said " Ma'am......I've never seen you let alone talked to you." She looks at me crazy and says "Yes, you did!" I said I ordered with that gentleman eating back there, not you." She says okay then goes and the man who took my originally brings back my bowl of Bun bo hue. It was tasteless. I added chili paste which I love for flavor and Taste but it didnt help not one bit. The only nice thing I can say was that the quality of the beef was good. He comes and checks on us and asked about my soup. I shook my head no and he said but "But I made it fresh!" as if that would magically changed the way it would taste. We decided to leave our food there and The confused girl who brought be bun bo hue in a bowl handed us our tab.
