I came here for an early lunch with my parents. There's plenty of good Vietnamese restaurants in Seattle, and this one came recommended by my mom's friend, who speaks both Vietnamese and Cantonese. The friend ordered for us: Chicken Lemongrass Bun was my dish - very thick, juicy chicken and great balance of rice noodles, meat, and veggies. I was surprised at the sheer portion size for the price, and rank this dish among one of the better ones compared to SF Bay Area. Mom and her friend opted for broken rice with grilled pork chops, another large portion. They threw in some extra protein like a fried egg, shredded pork skin, and this steamed eggy meatloaf. I had a few bites and enjoyed everything - we wound up ordering an extra order to go for dinner. The restaurant looks nondescript from the outside and is located up a hill on a shared lot just on the edge of Chinatown. Inside, there's plenty of seating including some round tables for large groups and an indoor fountain and TV. I came here and ordered the broken rice with grilled pork chop, baked egg, and shredded pork skin. I thought that the grilled pork was pretty solid, good flavored but just a tiny bit tough. The baked egg was likewise solid, and so was the rice + fish sauce. Pretty solid com tam! This place is located in a very rough neighborhood but sheltered by a relatively large parking lot located in the back side. Anyways, I am here to write a review of the food not the area, so the food here is 5 stars no doubt. Good Vietnamese food is a bit hard to find here since I have been spoiled by numerous visits to Garden Grove / Westminster area of SoCal and tried a lot of Vietnamese food in Saigon, but I am glad that this place hits the spot. I got the com tam dac biet which had grilled pork chop, sugarcane shrimp, and deep fried bean curd. The grilled pork chop was very tender and nicely marinated, no dry bits. The sugarcane shrimp was juicy and so is the deep fried bean curd. The fried egg is delightful, though overcooked, but both sides of the eggs are particularly crispy. The broken rice could use a bit more flavor, but the accompaniments gave more than enough flavor. Prices are a bit high with inflation relative to what I would normally get in SoCal and such, but the amount of food was satisfactory and of great quality. If I come back, I will NOT take the bus ever again cause I almost didn't make it. Finally visited the original Vietnam House I'm probably one of the few who went to the Tukwila spot first. A few minor service glitches but nothing major that affected the food and experience. Two of us went with the number 52 the broken rice with pork chop and fried egg, another went with 49 the Com Tam Dac Biet and then one went with the Bun Cha and a fried spring roll. Generous servings and delicious Vietnamese flavors always love how they have a crispy edge on their eggs at both locations. Had to snap a quick pic of the Lunar New Year display. This is the place to go if you're craving some Vietnamese broken rice! I got the com tam suon bi Cha, which is a pork "steak," with shredded pork, and a Vietnamese steamed egg. My boyfriend and I were a little hungry so we decided to do the banh hoi thap cam as well as the broken rice dish and both hit the spot. This is my go to place for broken rice dishes. I like how they marinade the meat and the meat cake as well. My friend had the bun hoi with all the meats and she loved all of it. Even declared it her second go to meal. The fried roll is freshly made and fried when you order the dish. The freshness of the chopped veggies was great and the vermicelli was cooked perfectly. Mix the whole bowl together with the fish sauce, you'll destroy the bowl easily within 10 minutes because it's so satisfying and yummy. Don't expect anything fancy. It's your typical neighborhood friendly spot, family ran, and pretty social spot. A plus is that they have a vegan menu too along with their traditional menu!
