I've never been to the locations in Manhattan, but I like visiting the one on 18th Ave Brooklyn. The fish is always fresh and the helpings are usually more fish than rice. I've been to their current location as well as their original smaller location across the street numerous times. They are always packed on Saturdays. The service is always friendly although sometimes a bit rushed because of how busy they are. But the food is always fresh and excellent every visit. My only complaints: 1) The current location has a bar with huge televisions that I feel takes away from the ambiance especially if you're sitting near the bar. 2) Their sashimi used to be twice the thickness it is now. 3) They used to serve Genmaicha green tea. Came here a few days ago with a bunch of friends. We got one of those private rooms. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe and boy it was no joke. It was definitely a deluxe on the sashimi. The thickness of each piece of fish was bigger than my two thumbs put together. Definitely recommend going. My favorite sushi place in Bensonhurst. Reasonable prices. Always fresh. Super generous with the sushi and sashimi pieces and rolls. Each slice of fish is twice the size you would get elsewhere and they don't stuff the rolls with a lot of rice which is how sushi rolls are supposed to be made. read more

I do like the decor here, but the sushi is sushi is subpar in terms of freshness and flavour. The unagi rice was way too syrupy sweet and the sashimi were stringy and tough, not buttery at all. In fact, my family actually prefers Wasabi, across the street. It's a more modest locale, but at least the food's better. The wait at Tenzan was also ridiculously long. I felt horrid when my younger sister ate white rice plain because our food took so long to arrive. When my order of ikura and massago sushi came, they were overly salted and the ikura looks shriveled up and strange in color. It was not the perfectly circular orange eggs I expect. read more

Very smelly when you first walk in. The server have a pretty bad service. First when we walk in, there's no host, and there's a guy run to us ask how many, we told him two, and the server was like sit whatever table you want. Then we told him we want a room, because we thought the room won't be that smelly when we close the the door. And that guy said the same thing again "sit any room you want". Okay now the waitress that serve us she said they had a special for that day, is fresh oyster and fresh scallop. I was like okay lets give a try. And when the dish arrive, the oyster is so tiny , size like a quarter, so I was think maybe is not the season, that's why it taste weird. So the next dish coming to the room is the scallop, the scallop is slice up and put on the top of shell with radish. So the scallop is not bad, there isn't any weird taste with the scallop but there is weird smell on the dish. So we look around the dish, and we find out there is three little shell that stick on the big shell, so we pull it off to look, and now we know where is the weird smell coming from the dish. That three little shell is spoil. By the way I hope they understand why we want a room, because we will like some privacy but the waitress always forgot to close the door. read more

Made reservations for a party of 12 on a Friday night 8/15. Our table was ready when we got there. Our servers were attentive and very polite. They took the time to explain some menu selections. Came here for lunch. It's a pretty nice restaurant. They also had Japanese style seating where you take off your shoes. I had the sashimi lunch(comes with salad and bowl of rice) and spicy salmon roll. Service was quick and fish was fresh. Absolutely love this place, not far from where I live and the servings are generous and fresh! I can't count how many times I've ordered take out, delivery and eaten here! I usually order the salmon special which I love cause I love salmon. Their rolls are good as well. I've tried sunset roll, sake roll, dragon roll, calamari roll, etc. can't remember them all. Now for the desserts I've have the green tea crepe cake but I was just bleh, tasted like it's been refrigerated for a while, get the real thing from Lady M fresh. Food is excellent. Sashimi deluxe was super fresh and kobe beef appetizer was wonderfully flavorful. Skip the Tokyo Pizza, its not great, and as for the mixed drinks you can barely taste the liquor. I have been to a few sushi places and this is one of the better ones. The fish is cool and fresh, as is the rice. The sushi is well formed and doesn't fall apart when you pick it up. The hot dishes are decent as well. The only issue is that sometimes the service is a bit slow. read more

Food pretty good but service is def lacking. We had reservations for a room, but they did not have one ready!! What was the point of making a reservation then! The waitress had to ask a couple of people to move to accommodate our party of 8 because we had no choice but to request a table. We didn't get a waitress until like 10 minutes later and she asks us what we want to drink. We didn't even get menus yet! Menus should have been given to us as soon as we sat down. Our teas were never refilled and we had to keep looking for a waitress. Ugh the lack of service sucked. Luckily we had great friends with us so we had a good night. The sushi and sashimi pieces are thick compared to other sushi restaurants. The food was pretty good; best sushi place so far Brooklyn so far. They had their own bar area and private rooms where you would have to sit and take your shoes off. The servers were very attentive and made sure everything was okay. I did takeout a few weeks ago and I got to say it wasn't bad. The staff was friendly and great, they offer me some tea while I wait for my order. I tried the Teriyaki Beef Platter which was good. They even had a side of A1 sauce which was a A+ addition. Also tried the pork fried dumplings (pretty decent, kind of pricey) and the fried squid (looks like onion rings). I met a friend out n Bensonhurst for dinner last night and didn't really know where to go. After passing by a few "meh" pizza places, we stumbled upon Tenzan. It was absolutely lovely. I came to this place for lunch with my boyfriend. When we first step in the restaurant it was bigger than those Japanese restaurant in Brooklyn. They have a bar on the side, and for those who love bubble tea you might want to come here. They don't have the best bubble tea but very little japanese restaurant offers bubble tea in there. The only bad part is the in their lunch area they only offer couple of kind of sushi roll that you could get with the lunch special. There service was good, clean atmosphere. read more

I've been coming to Tenzan for many years. I love them because they have individual rooms. However, it's pretty hard to get a room if you have a small party going for dinner. I've requested on a few occasions to get a room and the workers always say no. Sometimes they look like they really want to give us a room but the manager would not let them. The service is okay. I've had good and bad experiences with the servers and manager here. The food comes with BIG portions, which is great! Overall the food is tasty, sometimes the rolls are kind of mushy. But it's a pretty nice place in Brooklyn and I'll probably be coming back. read more

I've been here several times mainly for there Shiso Sangria and peanut avocado rolls...but this will be the last time that I'm coming back...I ordered chicken teriyaki from the lunch menu which was 6.50...I got the bill and noticed that they charged me 11.95...my friend told the hostess about the mistake and her response she gave me had to be the worst...she said the waitress is new and she didn't specify that it was a lunch order...I said again that I ordered from the lunch menu and should get charged for the lunch...her response was that I ate the dinner so I must pay for the dinner....technically I only ate half but she wasn't amused...Lucky for me I know how to make the Shiso Sangria and fushimi makes peanut avocado rolls...customer service goes a long way with me...I still tipped 20% cause unlike them I can't stiff or rob someone. read more
