My go-to sushi place! I can't believe this restaraunt only has a 3.5 rating. I've been coming here for the longest. I usually get the teriyaki bento boxes because it offers a variety of things. They're so fulfilling. I also love the mango summer roll (not sure what it's called but there's a picture of it on the menu). It's refreshing! E though it's a special roll so it's more pricey, it feels like there's a lot of pieces to it. Definitely does not leave you feeling like it was a waste of money for the price and quantity. I ordered the lunch 3 rolls with the garden salad. I can tell that it's made with HIGH quality ingredients because of how fresh it is. Fugu is definitely not frugal with the portions. They DON'T just give you a tiny piece of eel in its rolls NOR do they fool customers by giving a load of rice with a lack of "meat". It was my first time trying the fried cheesecake and i go crazy for cheesecakes. To my surprise, the cheesecake part wasn't solid (putting it in the fridge would solve). It was more creamy. ***UPDATE*** After only 3 hours of eating this, I was RUNNING back and forth to the bathroom!!! If you have constipation problems, then get the tempura. Goodness!!! I went 5-6 times and finally stopped at 10PM. NEVER AGAIN!!! Being 7 months pregnant, you get weird cravings. Today, my son has demanded tempura, so I happened to find this place on seamless.com for delivery. I opted for their vegetable and shrimp tempura platter at $14.95, and a kani salad (because I have no self control) for a steep $7.95. I honestly didn't care at this point, so I decided to take a leap of faith. For starters, the delivery did come fast, so a star for that. They were very nice in dropping it off on my porch as I instructed, so social distancing win right there. However, one star was removed for the kani salad. It was just too mushy, room temperature, and there was no cucumber for crunch to be found. I appreciated that there was wayyy more kani, but it just didn't taste fresh. The vegetable tempura was pretty yummy and crispy. A nice variety too, which isn't always the case. However, another star removed for the shrimp tempura. It was too grease and fried differently than the vegetable, which was disappointing. The pieces were big, but maybe if you pat the grease off you would enjoy it more. FOOD: From everything we'd ordered, I highly highly recommend their sushi appetizer, Tako Su which is sliced octopus soaked with vinaigrette on top of lemon grass (i think that's what it was). It was so delicious! Not to sour or sweet, the balance was, dare I say, perfect! The octopus also wasn't too firm, it held a nice consistency in terms of texture. The hand rolls were delicious also. I like that their spicy salmon roll has a little bit of tempura mixed into the fish, giving it a nice crunch and texture. I personally didn't taste the sashimi, but my brother said it didn't taste as fresh as he would have liked or expected but it was all still pretty good since he finished the bowl. SERVICE: Waitress was friendly and nice, and we received everything we'd ordered without mistake or issue. However, we left in a rush without realizing the food we had asked to pack wasn't given to us yet and one of the girls ran out and flagged us down which was super nice of her to do. It was our fault completely for forgetting but it was great of them to go out and catch us. Totally appreciate that, so overall, wonderful service! INTERIOR: Spacious, clean and aesthetically minimalist. Booths were also really spacious, and felt more private as the dividers reached the ceiling. So unless you're in a group and happen to be the unfortunate friend hanging off the edge, you won't see the customers directly behind your seat or in front. Obviously to the sides you're visible but I appreciate the depth of the booth's seats. BATHROOM: Two individual bathrooms for each gender. Women's side is tiled white, with a pretty picture of a flower hanging on the wall. There's a railing for you to hold if you need, the toilet is seated rather high so it's useful. It was overall quite clean, and appropriately stocked of proper supplies. No hand dryer, just regular paper towels. PARKING: Conveniently located on Bay Parkway which is hit or miss with parking depending on the day of the week and time of the day. On the side of the street that the restaurant is located, there's metered parking with a 1 hour time limit so be wary. You can choose to go down the residential streets to find parking without paying for a meter but chances of scoring a spot are slim. I enjoyed my first visit and experience at this restaurant, and intend to return if I'm in the area. I'm even willing to go out of my way just to eat the octopus appetizer. Depending on how many rolls you order the wait is a bit long sine they have two people making it and it does take longer if you order a lot more. I think I got 6 rolls and the price came out to be $18 before tips, which is pretty cheap for sushi especially if you randomly have a craving. The sashimi comes out with vibrant colors, which is a clear indication that it was just freshly prepared and sliced. After working with poke and raw fish, I can clearly see that their fish is fresh. Not only that, but their fish is all cut in very thick slices, unlike a lot of other sushi spots. As for what I usually get, I mainly order their beef terriyaki, whether it is in a bento box or by itself. When you order the beef terriyaki alone, it comes in a sizzling platter. What I like about it is that it tastes even better than some steaks that I have tried in the city. Not only that, but the servers ask you for your preference in rarity of the meat, unlike other sushi spots. Usually other sushi places just overcook their selection of meat and serve it to you. Here, you can find a large and juicy beef piece that is still sizzling when it is served to you that comes with a few vegetables as well as a bowl of rice. I honestly think that this is the meal that is most worth your money, aside from the lunch specials. For rows, my go to's are the shrimp tempura, eel avocado, and spicy salmon. The service here is friendly and quick. They welcome you with kind smiles and always ensure that they do not keep their customers waiting for too long. This includes taking orders or even completing pick up orders in a timely manner. I also like that the servers are lenient on specific orders. For example, you can sometimes substitute specific rows if it already comes with the dish. Also they have fast free wifi!!!! I love Japanese salads for the fact that they come with that ginger dressing & theirs was very tasty. For my meal, I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box which comes with rice, California rolls and dumplings (pork dumplings which I gave away since I do not eat pork). They have always had deals in certain rolls (I remember $2.50 rolls at one point) but seemed to have recently continued to increase in prices ranging from $2.75-$3 which I only discovered the differences on the bill, not exactly all $2.75 as listed on their menus. Can pay about $11 for 3 rolls including tax and tips. Food itself was adequate with okay ingredients, nothing special. You get what you paid for. Service was polite, attentive with refilling tea, but slow with coming out with dishes even with only a few tables - perhaps they're busy with fulfilling take out orders. I used to work in the neighborhood in the early 2000s as a teen and would get lunch here all the time, and I was excited to see it show up on the delivery apps, so I ordered 20 years later haha, and it's just as good as I remember. This is one of the better sushi places in Brooklyn to be honest. Food is fresh, it's reminiscent of Chikurin when they began and were great. They have the volcano roll with the original sauce that it used to come with at Chikurin, which is a huge bonus point for me cause it's one of my favorite rolls. I ordered a chirashi bowl (13.95) and my friend ordered the sushi deluxe (12.95) (essentially we both ordered sashimi...) Prices for sushi are cheap, and I'll definitely consider delivery since I live so close. Sashimi tastes alright, I can't defend that it's fresh, but some of the flavor is still intact. The lighting is a bit dark, i prefer my restaurant with more light, that way i know the ingredients i'm putting in my mouth! I guess the lighting is to go with their "theme" so whatever.
