Despite it being so close to the train station, it's always really empty inside. I question how fresh the food in the kitchen is because of the lack of customers, but I've never gotten sick after eating their food. Their bento boxes and cooked sushi are decent. I have been coming to Naniwa for around 15+ years and their food has been consistently great. Everything tastes fresh and the service is always great. The main reason for the lower rating is because of the increased prices. Prices are now extremely high compared to other locations such as Rakuzen or Sake Sushi. The time I ordered 4 rolls and a bento box for take-out, I think it came out to over $40-50. At that price, you're better off going to an AYCE place or ordering the take-out special from Rakuzen for $35. read more

It would have been a 3 star review, but the food could have been better, so still a 2 star review for me. The sushi is undeniably more priced in the acceptable range in the Bensonhurst area, in Brooklyn. However, because the prices are on average lower than most in the area, it does not mean the quality of the food should be less. This is a go-to place for the family and we generally enjoy all the rolles, even the nigiri pieces and the sashimi pieces. When we do order sushi, we always do a party tray, and try to get as much variety as possible, as we all love sushi, sashimi, nigiri, etc. As such, as ordered California, eel and avocado, Chicken tempura, Boston roll, spicy tuna roll, Alaskan roll, Ginza roll, sashimi (salmon & tuna), and eel nigiri. California & Eel roll: Standard, the eel was a bit dehydrated tasting, as if the fish was out for long period of time and then rolled together with sushi rice. The portion was a bit more smaller than the last time. Chicken tempura roll was really soft, and the crunch was def. on the soggy side, as the tempura was no longer crunchy. The Ginza roll was just not great. The cooked salmon tasted a bit old and the crunch had an odd taste, so it did not add a nice texture to the roll. I just finished having my take out dinner from Naniwa and I have to say this sushi spot is a very solid sushi restaurant for the surrounding neighborhood. Naniwa Sushi makes really delicious sushi at a wonderful price. I got 5 rolls from their roll special and in total cost me about $17. What an affordable price for sushi. I've tried the eel avocado, salmon avocado, shrimp tempura and Philadelphia rolls (all my favorites) and all of them were made to my liking. They estimated that my sushi would take around 15 minutes to make but I think they made my rolls in less than 8 minutes which is pretty fast for a takeout order. Since Naniwa is such in close proximity to my house and the food is delicious and affordable I think this will be my new sushi spot from now on for both sit down and take out. Good eats. read more

Why I gave this place a 1 star. This place has been here for awhile, and I've never went back after this incident (read on). The last time I came here was late 2014 or early 2015. During the cold winter months. My friends ordered the typical california roll, sashimi order. I was still picking my order on the menu, when I noticed a bug on the table. It was a small cockroach. Needless to say, I didn't order dinner that night at that restaurant. In my opinion: There's just so many sushi restaurants that if you are willing to travel a little further, it gets better. You can tell it's a good place from the moment you walk in; if you can't smell the fresh fish from the start, then you're not as big a fan of sushi as you think. I Yelped this restaurant yesterday to find bad reviews about this place. Just by reading, I wouldn't come. But today was my friend's birthday dinner here, so hey, got no choice but to try the food. Location is nearby my place. Decor looks nice and with dimmed lights makes the place look relaxing. Downfall is that service is so slow and food isn't pleasant. There was about a total of 15 people for the party. Only a total of 8 came including me. We all were hungry, so we decided to order the X Large Party Tray which contains 7 rolls, 45pcs of sushi or sashimi. We got: eel avocado roll, crispy roll, shrimp tempura roll, chicken tempura roll, spicy salmon roll, california roll, and philadelphia roll for the 7 rolls. And for the sushi, we got: salmon, yellowtail, tuna, shrimp, crab stick, and white tuna. All the cooked rolls were ok but too sweet. The sushis were not good. They were cut thin and were not fresh. Everyone started to order their own dishes. My friend and I only wanted the sushi tray but were still hungry, so we decided to share the Chicken Teriyaki bento box. We asked can we substitute the california roll with another roll and they said it will be $0.50 extra. We said ok and substituted it with the salmon avocado roll. When the bento box arrived, I realized they forgot to give the tempura sauce for us to dip the tempuras provided in the box. We asked for it and it took a while for them to give it. The vegetable tempuras were ok but the shrimp was better. But still, not that good. The salmon avocado roll was not good. It's not fresh. The shumai was ok. My friend and I didn't eat the rice knowing we got full quickly. We also decided to share a fried green tea ice cream. Out of everything eaten at the restaurant, only the ice cream tasted best! This is why I gave another 1 star for it. If not, 1 star is good enough for this place or even no stars. When it was time to get the bill, we asked if they can split the bill with everyone's own order and one bill for the sushi tray. They had to retake everyone's order again which also took so long! When the bills were all given, my friend and I were surprised on the total. And to my horror, I found the reason, they added the tips to the total. So my friend and I decided to just give exact change. I don't know about the others on how they paid. When my friend ask the birthday girl how much to give for the sushi tray since we are going to split the total, birthday girl said $10 each. Both my friend and I was surprised once more. We looked at the bill to find a huge total with tipping added to it as well. We asked why they added the tips to the receipt when tipping is optional. And they said 7 or less people doesn't have to, but more than 7 people, 15% is added to the bill. And since we asked to split the bills, they also split the total tipping $ to all the receipts. It didn't make any sense but it concluded that everyone gave $10, the divided amount for the sushi tray. Now thinking back to the whole scene and with calculations to the bills, tipping price was way beyond above 15% of the bills. I didn't know the total of all the bills. Maybe they only tipped 15% of the whole entire bill listed before splitting it and then split that amount to everyone's receipt? If I did know the total of the entire bill, I may have the solution to this issue and will definitely give a complaint. To conclude my review, this is a place I will never come back. I've tasted way better sushi at other restaurants here in Brooklyn. read more

Let me start off with the fact that I used to hate sushi until fairly recently. So how I am 5-starring a sushi restaurant is beyond you. Apparently, my across-the-street neighbors had a delivery order from them (sushi is deliverable?!), and I'm way out in Flatlands! But the deliveryman accidentally delivered to my doorstop instead--"no, no, they're over there!" ...and of course the OCD menu collector in me kicked in. "Can I get a menu?" My friends are ALWAYS raving about sushi, so I thought, "man, lemme give these guys a chance." I got off the Kings Hwy N-stop, turned my heel, and there was the joint. Got in, saw the only thing that looked remotely edible, and ordered it. Shrimp sushi, please. ...After that, I went to that place for about three consecutive days (and then some). I am hooked. It's so nice, quiet and calm inside, a relaxing place to hang out. You can only use card if you order a minimum of $10 worth of food. I think they recognize me. Why, I've even gone beyond my beloved shrimp sushi and I tried out the takoyaki and California rolls. Who knows what I'll eat next?! With those awesome prices, I simply cannot lose. I'll admit, I was almost scared to try this little Japanese place right next to the N train Kings Highway station. Just by its proximity to the MTA made me a bit put off. However, once inside the 30-seat restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi was good and cheap! Most of the rolls are about $2.50, sashimi and sushi at $1.25. For about $40, my companion and I were stuffed to the gills, chowing down on fresh white tuna, aromatic spicy tuna rolls, and yummy salmon. The beef negimaki was nice and juicy, the age tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And now after going there for a few times, I'm happy to say it's so close to the train station. When my girlfriend and I moved into the area, we were happy to see that we had a bunch of options for dinner. 3-4 different pizzarias, 2-3 different Chinese food places, a diner nearby...all good stuff. What we were surprised by was this sushi place. People might be scared at first because this is right next door to the N train station but don't worry...you will not see any trains coming through the restaurant, the train does not let out people inside the restaurant and no you don't get 10% off if you show your Metrocard. Now, the food is REALLY good. Sushi & Sashimi is very cheap so order a bunch and pack'em in. I enjoy their other dishes such as the Japanese Fried Rice with Chicken or their Tonkatsu. I do wish the had more options for their entrees but for such a small place, that's fine with me. Delivery is very quick (but then again I live 3 blocks away...Yeah? What? I get lazy!). Quality aside - which theirs is absolutely impeccable.. i think they get their fish from the pacific ocean.. you can actually taste the difference. The creativeness of the specialty rolls is spectacular. I haven't decided which is my favorite but it's officially between Butterfly Roll, Kraz Roll & AK-47 Roll. ALL OF WHICH ARE AMAZING. Its an okay sushi restaurant but nothing special. I found about them passing by one time and decided to get some takeout from them. It was pretty good so later on I ordered delivery a few times from them but then after some time passed one day I called in and the guy said I have to make at least a $50 order because my address is far and I said I don't need that much today maybe next time and he said okay. I called back a few weeks later and the same guy answered the phone and said the same thing so I decided to order for $50 this time. They don't have that many options to choose from like no thai ice tea and no oysters but I still managed to get enough for the $50. I probably won't order again from them cause I shouldn't have to get for $50 just because my address is kinda far. Maybe if Im in that area again Ill stop by there sometime but I won't be ordering again since its nothing special and there are other sushi restaurants near me that I can order from for no set amount needed to spend there for making a delivery order. read more
