    Got sick from this platter
    Irene L.

$38 for the DIY platter for pickup paid in cash. Lately the quality went down. The yellowtail sashimi was cut into small pieces and sushi did not taste fresh. Last week I ordered a platter and stomach started hurting and that never happened from this spot and they also got a C rating now. It was also very dead when I went in there.

Ordered a bunch of food here to celebrate a birthday and overall, good quality sushi for the establishment. Most of the rolls are standardly good, though I will say that the pad thai was kind of bland, could definitely use some more seasoning there. The standout for me was the Ninja Sandwich though, which was basically avocado and eggplant, along with layers of raw fish sandwiched between two slices of bread and then deep fried and topped with sweet chili sauce. I know it just uses ingredients they already have on hand but I really enjoyed the flavor combination and appreciate the novelty of it as well. Overall, good experience and 10% off if you order online!

Yesterday order sushi .they were not eatable rice around falls appart the fish was not fresh after I called them and send a pictire of it the owner become argumentative and told that he will put my name in ban list. Absolutely unprofessional behavior

    Dragon Roll, kids love it

Food was fresh , kids loved it ~ordered dragon roll, pineapple fried rice. service was great as well. We dined in.

This was based off takeout through seamless. Less than pleased with the quality of the food here. The shrimp tempura and chicken tempura were incredibly disproportionate of batter vs protein. It was so dried out, it was felt like dried meats. Their dynamite was sadly disgusting. Its runny ooze of mayo mushroom soup topped with orange cheese. The bagel roll was a terrible attempt with the fish and cream cheese deep fried. Plenty of other places to get good take out sushi on 86th Street

Ninja86 has reopened their dine-in service.

They have been a staple for me as a at-home dinner option sometimes on Fridays with their party trays. Their quality has been pretty decent and haven't had any issues with their food.

I love getting party trays from ninja 86! Quick service and easy to place orders online. The rolls are always tasty for takeout!

My family decided to order takeout from here because of their 10% off online order special. Their party trays are very affordable, especially for NY. However, we found the quality of the fish to be lacking in comparison to the many other sushi locations we have been to. It didn't taste that fresh. This was especially evident with the nigiri sushi pieces. It's difficult to beat these prices, but you get what you pay for.

A solid spot for sushi takeout. Ninja 86 is my go-to spot when I'm feeling for quick sushi bites. Their service is quick and always delivers ahead of time. My favorites are the sashimi set and spicy salmon. The sashimi slices are thick and decent quality and comes with a side of soup/salad. You can also customize to have salmon & tuna only. The salmon pieces here are great quality. The spicy salmon roll also has a kick of spice to it, which is nice because other spots tend to be bland! Love this spot & highly recommend if you are wanting quick bites.

Was craving sushi and saw this place had great lunch special deals. Ordered two 3 rolls lunch specials through Yelp and the order arrived within 35mins. $11 (through Yelp and as of Sept 2021) for 3 rolls with soup AND salad . Most places give only one side with the rolls, but not Ninja 86 Sushi. I ordered the spicy tuna (looked like spicy salmon), spicy yellowtail, eel avocado, shrimp tempura and salmon termpura rolls. All rolls were amazing! Will definitely order from them again! And next time I'll know to order from their website directly after reading the reviews about the 10% off.

10% off online orders right now on their site! After being sick of the sushi spots over on Avenue U (mostly decent, just a little pricier for classic rolls), it's finally time to start trying the plethora of options on 86th Street. Lunch Combo deals are pretty appealing at only $9.75 for three orders of classic rolls as well as 3 other pieces - only downside is it's a set so you can't choose your rolls, but the deals are geared towards some classics so there's bound to be a combo that you love. Review is only for the limited rolls I've tried thus far, but their spicy salmon roll is already superior to the ones on Avenue U. Generous drizzle of spicy mayo on top. I personally also realllly like the shrimp tempura roll as well - really good crunch and balance. The ratio to filling and rice is also spot on - the rice layer is pretty thin and I didn't feel bloated at all However, the non-rolls from Lunch Combo 1 were pretty average in terms of taste. That's where they pack in the rice! Could've tasted a lot fresher

I had a six hours video call from 9am to 3pm. Thus, I knew there was no time to make lunch. I placed an online order on the ninja86 website. During a 10 minutes break, I was able to walk over and pick up my order. The cashier was very nice when he handled my transaction. I was in and out less than 5 minutes. My sushi rolls and side salad were fresh. The miso soup was steamy hot. Thanks Ninja 86 for making my day!

This is a good and affordable spot for sushi. A lot of people mainly go for takeout now but it is somewhere I would always get sushi to go.

The fish was very fresh and good quality. We tried the fried purple yams, fried chicken, stir fried udon, yakisoba, and a variety of sushi platters. I would highly recommend the Tokyo Don which was a variety of fish and seafood on a bed of rice. The Salmon Lover's was also excellent, and slices of fish were nice and thick. Service: Service was wonderful! Our waiter was attentive and came back to check on us throughout the meal. There's a button to press when you need service, and our waiter was always quick to come after we pressed it. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size with tables sectioned off into small "rooms". There are two private rooms downstairs that fit about 6-7 people each. The rooms are adjoining and good for large groups. Seating downstairs is the Japanese-style tables where you put your legs into a pit under the table. Decor and ambiance is very nice, and seating is comfortable. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant!

It was an absolute lifesaver that kept the girls happily entertained. And the food was absolutely worth savoring. We kicked things off with a round of handrolls--salmon avocado, spicy salmon, and yellowtail--which were perfectly crisp and packed with fresh fish. I went all in on the Salmon Lovers set, and it was an absolute dream. It came with a massive, beautiful spread of salmon sushi, seven thick pieces of melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, a salmon avocado roll, a bright kani salad, and a really savory piece of grilled salmon. We also shared the Ysukiji sushi platter, which featured a gorgeous, high-quality assortment of cuts, while the Smoked Chicken bento box was a huge hit, offering fantastic cooked flavors and generous portions. The room we were in mimicked a traditional Japanese room where everyone had to sit on the floor and put their legs under the table. It was fun for the younger people but it was difficult for the elders to sit down and get back up. Between the incredibly fresh sushi and the warm hospitality that kept the whole family smiling the entire time, this spot easily earned five stars. We can't wait to come back!

Tables are abit small especially when meals are always serve in large platters. The table barely fit all the dishes so they had to remove the condiment tray to make space but it's not ideal with the squirming kids. I suggest changing some of the plate sizing to better fit the tables. The condiment tray have 4 sauces available: ketchup, sweet & sour sauce or is it sweet chili sauce?, hot sauce and low sodium soy sauce. They also do not provide the claypot sweetened soy sauce. The only soy sauce available (is low sodium) but that makes the dish saltier. Great service and good food. The baked rice dish- do not recommend. My friend said HK Tea is better. The sizzling platters are soo goood. Of the claypot rice, the classic pork ribs is the best. Chicken one was too dry for hubby's taste. The HK milk tea taste malty which one of us enjoy and another did not. Their regular rice plate portion size is abit small. The noodles are abit bland if you order that instead of rice to go with the sizzling plate. Veggies are just steamed and healthy but wish they were seasoned. The condiment tray should also include salt and pepper.

The menu had all the typical HK Cafe selection and even offered the HK brunch special combos. Placed an order of grilled mackerel ~which tasted surprisingly good (lemon wedges needed). Dipping their toes in so many different arenas might actually be their detriment because they're going for everything while not excelling in most. I would rather they cut down on some dishes and make sure all are great instead. I absolutely love their Thai fried chicken, which is so affordable (8 pieces for $12), and tastes so crispy on the outside but so moist and flavorful on the inside. It comes with a tangy fish sauce, but you can add different green curry and/or red curry for 50 cents each. I like it best with the fish sauce. However, that's the Thai fried chicken is the only dish I absolutely love from this place. Everything else is very mediocre, which is unfortunate. 6 rolls bento - $15; comes with california roll, spicy tuna roll, lobster salad roll, salmon avocado roll, eel cucumber roll, shrimp tempura, kani salad, seaweed salad, and fried chicken. It's a lot of food for $15, and the sushi actually tastes decent. The kani salad, seaweed salad, and fried chicken are just tiny portions, but the fried chicken are like nuggets and taste really bad. 4/5 Mushroom noodles - $10; It's so rare to find such affordable e-fu noodles but sadly, it tastes nothing like what e-fu noodles should taste like. I wouldn't even know that they're supposed to be e-fu noodles if I just blindly tasted. I would not get this again here. 3/5 Pad see ew beef - $13; Again, like the mushroom noodles, it didn't taste like pad see ew. It's missing that sweetness and charred factor that's usually present in pad see ew. 3/5 Pad Kra Pao (??) - I can't remember if it's this dish that I got, but it was some type of Thai rice dish with a meat sauce. It was so terrible, I only ate 10% of it and didn't take it to go. 1/5 Pad thai - I didn't try it but my friend got it and the color looked really off. Aside from the food, there are other improvements to be made here. It seems like a family-run restaurant, with only two workers facing the customers. It's really hard to get their attention when the restaurant is busy. The space is very tight and looks like it could be more well-maintained. They also need more menus. Hard to share just one with the whole table.
