I always passed by this place but never got a chance to try their menu until now. This was late in the evening when I ordered my take-out of sashimi with one California roll that came with miso soup. Their prices were reasonable. Their sashimi were fresh but their California roll was okay (I may have gotten the last bit of rice because it was a bit dry/hard). Their miso soup is standard. The staff was friendly and was willing to alternate our order to accommodate our needs. This place is a bit small but you can still dine in if you want. However it looks like it's more geared for take-outs and I do not see a bathroom for customers. Pro-tip: They only accept cash
Came here to order takeout. Order was quick and ready in 15 minutes. Ordered sashimi/sushi platter and the fish were all pretty fresh and decent. Fancy rice was loaded with a bunch of different things (salmon,sauces,avocado,,etc) and it tasted pretty good. Oyster was fresh and they pack it on top of ice so it stays cold even when u take it home. Prices aren't bad and order was ready fairly quick. It's a good place to order decent takeout from
When I was younger I used to frequent this place and I remember it always being so fresh and delicious. I don't live in the neighborhood anymore and it's also complicated because they've always been cash only so when I saw them pop up on uber eats I got very excited. I ordered the sumumono, dinosaur roll and dragon roll. The sumumono was fresh and tasted good but the portion was tiny - had 2 pieces of surf clam, one piece of Kani, 1 shrimp, and a few pieces of octopus. I'm used to sunumono being a mix of raw fish-salmon, tuna, white fish, etc so it was a bit disappointing to see such a lack of ingredients. The dinosaur roll was bizarre...the salmon skin on top was mixed with Kani and something else and was EXTREMELY salty and I had to take most of it off. The dragon roll was nothing special either. When made correctly, dragon is my favorite roll but no one seems to use good eel anymore and this has been going on for years. I was hoping this place would have the eel I remembered it having but it was the same fatty eel that was a bit dried up, tiny pieces in the roll with too much rice and just not too enjoyable. Don't know if I'll be ordering from here again, another sushi restaurant down with the rest

We also got the fancy salmon roll and spicy white fish roll. Even though they were different fish, I couldn't really tell the difference because there was a lot of sauce on top. The spicy mayo was good but next time I will request less sauce on top.

The party tray A is now about $40 and it comes with two miso soup. The soup is great with mini cubes of tofu and seaweeds. Very delicious special rolls. Tiger roll has shrimp and avocado in it and my favorite bay roll which is deep fried with cream cheese and salmon fish and avocado. The wasabi they use is weird and is neon green. The wait time is about 20 minutes.
Good lunch deal of $10.50 plus tax for 3 rolls & miso soup. I opted for spicy yellowtail, spicy tuna w avocado (no cream cheese for me) and the salmon roll. The spicy fish were a bit mayoey and and bit mushy. They were generous on the avocado and the salmon roll was good. The rice was vinegary- nice, a bit gummy. A pint of soup. Decent deal for a quick pickup.

This is my go to sushi spot when I want special rolls. Unfortunately, they are not open on Tuesdays. I normally order a platter when I'm with a group of people. They have a maki party (10 regular rolls) for $40 which is great to share amongst a few friends. If I want to treat myself, I would get the special combo roll and switch out one of the rolls and pay the difference. My favorite roll is the volcano roll. The volcano roll is only 6 pieces but they are huge. The texture and flavor of the eel avocado & squid mix is to die for!! Definitely recommend for your future parties!

They did ask for the entire payment when I placed the order and gave me a receipt for pick up. Prior to placing the order, I hadn't eaten here before but our family friends had recommended them. They were also the only sushi place near me that was going to be open on Thanksgiving Day. My mom and I ended up getting a couple of rolls to try later that day - spicy tuna and ginza roll. I loved the sushi to rice ratio (less rice). Fish was also fresh. My sister helped pick up the platter but it was ready on time, and everyone loved the sushi. There were no leftovers. We actually devoured the entire platter fairly quickly. I would definitely come back.

Food: This is a small family-owned sushi restaurant. Their sushi is excellent and I have been coming here for years. They have various party trays which include combinations of rolls, sushi, and sashimi. Party trays also come with miso soup. They have an excellent variety of rolls to choose from. If your party tray comes with regular rolls or special rolls, you can choose the ones that you want. They also have lunch specials until 4 PM every day. My favorite roll here is their spicy salmon which I think they make the best out of any sushi restaurant. Many people also order their oysters, either raw or baked, as an appetizer. Both are delicious. Service: Service is wonderful here. The place is run by a husband and wife who are friendly and very attentive. Ambiance: The restaurant does many takeout orders, but they do have a very small dining space with about three tables. Tables can be combined for a larger party, but the restaurant can probably hold 12 people at the most. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant whether you do takeout or dine in. read more

I love this place! My first time here after living in the area for years! I fell in love with the striped bass sashimi As an avid sushi lover who regularly eats sushi in Sheepshead Bay, I can immediately tell that the fish served here is fresh. It melted in my mouth and it tasted very delicious! The wasabi here is also great and the miso soup was really yummy. I will definitely be coming here again for their party dishes! read more

This was my first time no joke tasting sushi! A few recommended this spot and I have to say I love it! The shrimp Tampura and the kani salad is my faveorite so far! I love the eel sauce and the ginger slices! Great price for a lot of food! I'm so glad I pick this spot to have my very first sushi experience! Oh and the girl that takes the order over the phone and brings out your food is super sweet! read more

Our new go-to takeout sushi place during the pandemic. Sushi was fresh and tasty. Party platter presentation was also quite well done especially for takeout. Beware potentially long waits though, one time we had a 2.5 hour long wait on a friday dinner time. They usually give ample soy sauce and chopsticks. read more

My go to walking distance neighborhood sushi stop. As other reviews stated, hole in the wall take out geared place. There's a few tables for a small cozy vibe. Can't wait to try the oysters one day (the second I can get a friend to eat with me ugh!) Rolls are very solid, typical Sheepshead Bay/Avenue U cheap sushi. Consistently good food with polite service! read more

Haven't been here since Covid started so I'm super glad to be back. It's good to see that the place is still around and running well! I dropped by on a Friday night to pick up my order and they looked busy. Had a few people wait outside while I was picking up my order. I carried two house party trays with appetizers (not pictured) back and they were heavy!! Easily fed 7 and with enough leftover to look like it's own lunch box After walking 25 minutes in the hot 85 degree weather I am sad to say that the ice under the oysters melted a bit but my friend had an ice machine so it was fine. Sushi was still so so delicious! Tataki maki and dynamite are two of the go-to house special rolls and I love their fancy rice appetizer for the savory sauce. Next time, I'll have someone drive me here instead. 5/5 would recommend Edit: to add that this place is still take out and delivery only. No dine-in or outdoor seating. $ CASH ONLY $ I heard great things about this place but as soon as I walked in, I was instantly turned off. This place looks like a sushi takeout. There was about 14-16 seat capacity and pictures of the food were all over the walls. The staff just shouted in Chinese and pointed for us to sit at a table. It took awhile for them to drop us off some menus after that. The menu was intensive with pictures and numbers. (It's easier if you order by number.) After ordering, clams and oysters came rather quickly. The clams and oysters were topped with some tobiko, scallion, and a spicy cocktail sauce. The clams were very good but I'd much rather them without all these unauthentic toppings. I would never order their low quality oysters. They were totally missing that fresh briny flavor. I need my raw food to be on point. And for the baked oysters, don't even think about them. Sushi finally came after an hour of ordering. For a small place, they could not keep up with orders. I was starving on a whole different level by the time my sushi platter came. I was even more disappointed with the sushi itself. First most important thing, there was sesame seeds sprinkled on top of my uni. Who does that? The sushi was too warm. The sushi pieces were very bland and rubbery tasting. All the pieces had an abnormal amount of rice which fell apart as you pick up the piece. The rice was not great too. The quality of everything was underpar. Overall, this place ruins the integrity of potential good food. Expect slow service. read more
Looks can be very deceiving, and Sushi Bistro is of no exception. I had to remove on star based off of two factors that could discourage you if you were not knowledgeable prior: 1) BYOB & 2) Strictly CASH ONLY! So, don't do what we did - not eat this amazing sushi without a Sapporo. This place really is nothing to look at, and is the bare minimum take-out place to get your sushi fix. There's only 4 tables! The staff is really friendly, and the walls are covered with really delicious looking special rolls and party trays. We started with a standard Kani salad ($5), which was more cucumber than kani, which is not what I was expecting; pretty underwhelming, but fresh. For entree, I ordered the Happy Roll, the Dancing Shrimp Roll, and an eel avocado roll ($4.25; kinda more than what I usually pay for). My specialty rolls ranged from $8.00 - $9.50 each. The special rolls around really the way to go! They were super fresh, tasty, unique, and presented really nicely! They were served quick, and were totally filling. Next time I would only do the special rolls; this place isn't worth it to get the regular staples that you can get anywhere. Come in, bring CASH, and your beer, and be happy! read more

My favorite sushi spot in all of Brooklyn. It's cash only but there are banks all over Avenue U. Please please come eat here! The rolls are perfectly sized, incredibly fresh, and delicious every time. Have sushi from this spot at least once a week, the lunch special comes with two rolls and a miso soup or ginger salad for under $10 which is enough to fill a person but the party trays are perfect for a gathering and it's very fair priced. It is family operated and you can tell they make their food with love and treat their customers with kindness. Please order from here! My go- to is a mango kani salad with shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. read more

Ordered here for take out and it was perfect. Everything was packed up nicely and the staffs were really nice and friendly. The oysters are cheap and it was very fresh. One of the best I've ever had. They have all diff varieties on the rolls and they are freshly made when you ordered. Should definitely try out this place. There are street parkings. If you are coming with a large group, should make reservations in advance as the place is not that big. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch with my sister yesterday around 3:30pm. Thankfully, they serve lunch until 4pm, so we were able to order some items for a decent price. We're both sashimi hogs, so we went with the Sashimi Combo C, which came with 4 pieces each of salmon, white tuna, tuna and yellowtail. I've had better sashimi but it was good enough for a small business like this one. We also tried the Naruto Mountain and Alaska Naruto makis, both wrapped with cucumber rather than the usual sushi rice. The rolls were pretty good with generous filling. The fact that it's much healthier and less caloric than rice maki really draws me to them. The reason why I removed one star was due to the slow service. The restaurant only has a handful of tables and we were the only customers there, but our dishes still took a while to prepare. I think the sushi chef was putting some party platter together for a take-out order, but regardless, our small order shouldn't have required such a long wait. All in all, a decent sushi joint. I'd return for the Naruto makis, but for the record I do not watch Naruto. read more

My boyfriend introduced me to this place and i fell in love. Small little hidden sushi place with the freshest shucked oysters I've every tasted in a Japanese restaurant. The oysters are fresh, crispy and sweet with roe on top. Very affordable price for good quality sushi. I'm a fan of sushi and this I can say is one of my favorite go to spot. Heads up is its a very small store with limited seating so not suitable for big groups. The staff is all Chinese so not authentic but i can deal with it. The menu is very visual so no need for all the guessing. Bit far from my home but definitely worth the travel. Party platters are a great choice to go with if you come with more than 4 people. You can mix & match any rolls you like within the price range of special and regular rolls. They don't really have much rice dishes so don't expect to have Japanese entrees. Its mostly appetizers, sashimi, sushi and rolls. Quick fix for when you're craving for decent quality sushi but don't want to splurge too much. read more

Their fish are fresh and oysters are GREAT! If you can take sashimi, that's a better choice than the sushi with rice. Their rice is made a little hard unlike other places and break apart easily. The oysters are pretty cheap being $7.95 for 6 pieces and most importantly, delicious. I'm not normally a fan of raw oysters but it's a must from here. read more
