Nice Japanese themed restaurant in Bensonhurst offering basic Japanese food infused with some Chinese dishes. Traditional dishes like teriyaki were not on menu. Similar to Longevousjoy, the restaurant is basically run by Chinese owners. Ordered my regular items, the Hell Spicy Beef Ramen and the fried squid appetizer. Both arrived quickly and hot. Service is always great. Chopsticks are always provided but requesting spoons and forks can be a challenge. Discount for paying in cash. read more

Came here for lunch with a large group and they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant has decent amount of seating. Staff was friendly. Love the variety on the menu. Everything was reasonably priced. The fish was fresh and decent sizes. The platters were good. I love the spicy scallop tartare and the seared salmon. The only thing is the rice fell apart when you try to pick it up with the chopsticks. We also love the sweet potato fries. There is definitely something for everyone on the menu. We will definitely be going back again. read more

This spot is a great addition to the neighborhood sushi scene, more variety than your typical classic roll spot but less formal than a full on omakase. From the start, the menu felt a little overwhelming, but I actually liked how much variety there was. They've got your everyday sashimi, sushi, rolls, and some specials, plus plenty of hot food like bento boxes, noodles and rice dishes. There are even party trays if you're grabbing food for an event. With so many options, there's something for everyone in your group. The fish was fresh overall, though it leaned more mild than that buttery, sweet richness you get from higher grade cuts. The salmon belly was good but not as rich or melty as I hoped. The toro was nicely torched with that perfect buttery flavor. They also had Santa Barbara uni that night, which was solid, just not the most sweet batch I've had. They were already sold out of their Hokkaido uni that evening. We also tried the monkfish liver appetizer, it was mild and clean tasting, though I wished it had more of that rich, creamy depth you sometimes get from good quality ankimo. It came plain, but once I asked for a little ponzu, it helped balance the flavor. The space itself is clean and very bright, with an open layout where you can easily hear other tables, lively but not too loud. Service was friendly and polite, though a bit on the inexperienced side. Everyone was kind and tried their best, just small moments where communication or timing could be smoother. Parking in the area can be tricky depending on the time, but there are plenty of meters and street parking within walking distance. read more

Second time coming here. Plenty of seating and usually no wait, I get seated right away or pretty quickly. Their sushi is decent and some of the entrees are good like their egg drop beef chow fun. They allow you to BYOB and if you ask for an ice bucket, they can provide that for you too. Staff is friendly. read more

It was a weird dinner experience. The order of food from kitchen to table were unorganized. We ordered a mixture of appetizers, sashimi, and entrees. 2 out of 4 apps came out first, Sashimi came out second, Then 1 out of 8 entrees... 3rd app... There was a long wait with the remainder of the meals and finally the last app was served while the most of us already ate. Though we ate at different waves, we all agree that we may come back for their fresh sushi/sashimi. Ramen and udon flavors were mediocre, and apps would've been great if they came on time. Perhaps, we can seperate in smaller groups next time. read more

Been here few times and they have always had an issue with service. During their grand opening week, it was so busy. Service was slow but I thought it was because everyone was new and not used to the rush. I went again recently and encountered the same issue. Extremely slow service and if you do not have a reservation, you might have to wait a long time for a table during their dinner hours. Food is not bad, but the service is terrible. read more

Washoku Kyo is a local gem! My friend & I came for dinner around 6pm and the restaurant was empty, but filled up quickly within 15 mins of us being there. They're also whipping up takeout orders in between so they are BUSY! The restaurant itself is spacious, well lit, and cute. For the price point, the portions & quality are unmatched for the area. I was a bit surprised to see that most of their rice bowls were only about $20-$30 considering how much fish & rice they include. There's an uni bowl for only about $26!! Heaven! I ordered the kyo don for my first time here, since it had a good enough variety of all (salmon, tuna, scallops, shrimp, uni, ikura, torched tuna). They don't skimp on the portions at all. I was extremely full and maybe only 1/4 of the way through my rice. The chicken wings were massive & also really tasty. Also - bevvies are only $2!!! A steal! Parking around here varies. Cash & card are both accepted. read more

Review is for takeout. I called in an order for pickup. Fortunately I did not have to wait when I arrived. The food was packaged well. The sushi here is some of the freshest in the area. They even had uni which is rare for the neighborhood. Prices are reasonable as quality is high. Will order from here in the future. read more

3.5/5 The Kaisen Don was smaller than I expected, but it still tasted good. The uni was fresh and sweet, definitely the best part of the meal. The Yellowtail Jalapeño was flavorful and well balanced. The Alaskan roll surprised me. Most places make it with salmon, avocado, and cucumber, but this version included imitation crab meat, which felt out of place. The fried squid was unfortunately too chewy. read more

This place is great for groups! I typically go with my family + extended family where it's nearing 10 people. The staff is very patient in taking our orders. However, what I tend to do is take everyone's order on my phone's notes app and then just let one of the staff members take a picture of the order. It saves a lot of headache for everyone. Onto the atmosphere, an inspiration of 90s video games, past and current anime culture, and an amalgamation of Hong Kong culture. It's well lit and very welcoming. There are semi-private dining areas (cordoned off with curtains) that are available for larger 8+ groups. Onto the food, there's a great mix of familiarized and hybridized Cantonese, South-east Asian, and Japanese foods. This is especially helpful when I come here with picky eaters who don't like raw fish. There's a health variety of raw foods, cooked foods, soups, etc. I haven't gone wrong with any of the foods I overed, but I will say there are a few special rolls that stand out (which unfortunately escape my mind at the moment). There are a few special rolls that are just average, but I'll allow for you to test and determine which ones fit your palette. What's yum to me might be yuck to you. read more

I was in the neighborhood and was craving some sushi and was happy I stumbled upon Washoku Kyo. The interior was so cute, but I was in a rush to go so I could not dine in. I quickly placed an order for the Kyo Don which included a nice selection of fish, including toro, ikura, and uni for ~$30. I was really happy with my order and I would definitely come back in the future. read more

Washoku Kyo - Kyo don - Japanese Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The price is very reasonable and the quality of their food is extremely fresh and delicious! Service was quick both times that I went, once when it was quiet and empty, and the second time when it was jammed pack, which surprised us since we were expecting to wait quite a bit due to how busy they were; this suggests that they have a good system going and it only took 5-10 minutes for us to get all our food despite it being a full house. The shrimp tempura box was such a steal with perfectly cooked and juicy shrimp, and even the popcorn chicken that accompanied the bento was perfectly crisped and seasoned. Their raw selections were delicious and extremely fresh, so I don't think you can go wrong with either cooked or raw selections. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back for some quick, affordable and delicious Japanese food! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (: read more

Extremely disappointed in the quality of this place. The price is fair for the neighborhood and the service was good. The waitress and waiter kept refilling our tea and checked in on us once. The sushi quality is lacking as one of the rolls - spicy scallop had a very fishy unfresh smell as we eat it. The eel had two bones in there and the rice was a bit too hard. The ramen soup broth was loaded with msg and the udon wasn't fully cooked. The quality needs to improve. read more

New Japanese restaurant on 18ave Bensonhurst. Pretty busy since it's newly opened I guess. Decor is nice inside. The service was okay; the server did give us a heads up that food might be slow to come out as they were busy and also had quite a bit of takeout orders as well. The food came out sporadically but the wait wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We ordered the Hokkaido don and Kyo don. The fish was fresh and tasty - uni was pretty good quality. The don was delicious -- I devoured every last bite. We also had the toro sashimi, which was only okay. It wasn't the best cut/quality since it wasn't melt in your mouth buttery. The mackerel bento box and fried shishamo were good. Also had the eel beef don and the katsu oyako don. The katsu oyako don was okay only but the eel beef don was really good. Their portions size are pretty generous. We all ordered drinks -- most drinks were $2. The Thai iced tea for $2 is a steal -- this usually costs $4-6 at most Thai restaurants... although I would say it's not the most authentic so probably why the lower price. Everything we ordered was pretty delicious. The menu had many items I would like to try. Would come back for more sushi and their dons. I would also like to try their ramen next time; it looks good! read more

The place it big and comfortable. The food came pretty fast. Waiters refilled water. Overall, the fish is really good but the seaweed is not good. The hand roll came first and the seaweed was already soggy. It also gave a fishy smell/taste. Would recommend fish without the seaweed unless they change their seaweed. read more

The service was great because the waiter refilled my cup of water. The bento surprisingly turned out tasty. I recommend coming there

Came here for dinner with family, was told it's a 30 min. wait, but turned out to be an hour. Food was OK and definitely not worth a hour of wait time. Don't know what the hype is about this place. A lot of fake reviews saying how big the portion is..it's not true. Place is very unorganize. If you have more than 4 people, don't bother. Their tables are meant for 4 people only, anything more, it'll be a nightmare Also place doesn't seem to be very clean. read more

Service was great. Food was great. Ambiance is great. Let's start with the crazy salmon roll - it was an explosion of flavor! Very rich and creamy blend between the spicy salmon, the avocado, and the fish roe. The eel/beef don and the chicken beef don are bangers as well. I haven't wrote reviews in a while but this new restaurant definitely deserves a 5 star. read more

The first time we came and dined in, it was a lot of food for a decently priced amount. Now, we pay close to $150 for two small plates of food. There is also some kind of stink/ taste to the fish now. Service is good though. read more

The bento box was well worth the price for how much food you get--the pork katsu was crisp and nicely cooked. I also had sashimi and sushi on the side. The fish was generally fresh, though a few sashimi pieces lacked the natural sweetness you'd expect from higher-quality cuts. Their sushi rolls are generously made, and the dragon roll stood out. It had shrimp tempura that was still crispy when served, adding a great texture and making it a surprisingly enjoyable bite. read more

This place has a lot of potential to be really good, I came on a Thursday night and it was a full house. We managed to get seated within 15 minutes. This place reminds me of longevous joy, a restaurant that has since closed. The menu is very similar. I ordered a sashimi bowl with ikura, uni and toro, The uni and the ikura were delicious and sweet.. the toro was mediocre. Their Thai ice tea is $2 and they have several options that are $2.. and I hope that doesn't change because that alone might be enough to convince me to come here more often, since the rest of their menu can add up. The fried squid was really good too which they serve with Siracha mayo. Food was good and they have a good amount of seating however the service is SLOWWW I think it took 40 minutes for food and over 20 mins for drinks to come out. We had to request for hot tea twice and I think the hot tea didn't get refilled till we called for the bill. They are definitely short staffed but props to them for not messing up any order while being short staffed and having a full house! read more

Ordered a fried rice that was good but the tuna roll was fishy. Ruined my whole meal. Cant be a sushi joint with fishy fish

Terrible service. I was told to wait for a seat, then watched the woman at the front give it to people who walked in after me. I had to confront someone else just to get seated. When I finally ordered, she wrote it down on her glove and repeated it, but the food never came. I asked another staff member, only to find out she never even put in the order. The food looked good, but I wouldn't know. Maybe I was just unlucky but I won't be risking it again. read more
