Came here a few times and finally suggested it to family for a family dinner. The staff managed to fit all of us together (party of 8 adults and 2 kids). Tight squeeze but managed. Tables are abit small especially when meals are always serve in large platters. The table barely fit all the dishes so they had to remove the condiment tray to make space but it's not ideal with the squirming kids. I suggest changing some of the plate sizing to better fit the tables. The condiment tray have 4 sauces available: ketchup, sweet & sour sauce or is it sweet chili sauce?, hot sauce and low sodium soy sauce. They also do not provide the claypot sweetened soy sauce. The only soy sauce available (is low sodium) but that makes the dish saltier. Great service and good food. The baked rice dish- do not recommend. My friend said HK Tea is better. The sizzling platters are soo goood. Of the claypot rice, the classic pork ribs is the best. Chicken one was too dry for hubby's taste. The HK milk tea taste malty which one of us enjoy and another did not. Their regular rice plate portion size is abit small. The noodles are abit bland if you order that instead of rice to go with the sizzling plate. Veggies are just steamed and healthy but wish they were seasoned. 3.5 stars to be exact. Came in during afternoon lunch, place was fairly emptied and was seated quickly. The menu had all the typical HK Cafe selection and even offered the HK brunch special combos. Placed an order of grilled mackerel ~which tasted surprisingly good (lemon wedges needed). The stir-fry vermicelli noodles lacked flavor, though the popcorn Chicken tasted good and made up for it. Came here for lunch when they first opened. The food is lacking and is another typical hk style cafe. The old mala pot was one of my favorite and it's sad to see it go. There is heavy competition on 86th with similar style food. The price is also a bit higher compared to its competitor. The chicken noodle dish I had was not the best and bland. It also looked like something that can easily be made at home and just tossed together. read more

New cafe in the neighborhood with a nice, clean space and a menu full of variety, but the flavors didn't quite hit. The baked ox tongue with tomato sauce was dry and more like brisket than tender tongue, while the chicken steak with white sauce had juicy thighs but an odd thyme cheese that felt out of place for a HK style dish. Staff were attentive and the vibe was relaxed, so it's a comfortable spot to sit. Though we did feel a bit off the next day after having this meal for dinner, which knocked it down a star for me. This review is a bit late considering that i went during the opening month. I went with a larger group, we were split up. That's not blaming the restaurant in any way, because I realize it's hard to accommodate a large group. What I do blame the restaurant for is the food + prices. My group went in hungry but not ravenous. We waited a semi-reasonable amount of time for our food, only to find the portions considerably smaller than we expected. For example, mentally, we were prepared for a Mcdonald's Large and we got something closer to a small/medium. We could have forgiven this if the food was delicious. It was average at best. Not one person from my group was wowed by the food. We all agreed that this restaurant was a disappointment, and honestly a waste of our money and time. None of us expect to ever visit again. Love this new addition to the Brooklyn GK Cafe scene! First I have to admit this is my guilty pleasure- French toast and HK style milk tea. The lunch combo is an awesome deal - under $8 for tea, half sandwich and a soup. This restaurant is new - so unlike its competitors, the space is clean and comfortable. In addition, the service was friendly and attentive. I can't remember anyone at this type of restaurant asking me how the tea was. The reviews doesn't give this place justice. I found this place accidentally. I found parking and behold this cafe spoke to me. " Come in!" Man was I happy I did! At first, the menu was a little overwhelmed. I spotted had some really noticeable dishes and the prices were reasonable .. I was attended right away with a warm friendly welcome. So I ordered what I recognized, the cucumber salad, hands-down the best I've ever had more than enough for two. I was in the mood for scrambled eggs and I saw a dish, scrambled eggs and shrimp with scallions and rice hands-down one of the most fulfilling meals I've ever had simple but humongous umami flavor bomb you have to try.it I apologize for not taking a picture of the cucumber salad as it was just to good. To be honest, I was a little hesitant to give them a try. It was just a gut feeling that I had but it would not be fair to judge them without even giving them a chance. Today I ordered the baked sausage spaghetti with tomato sauce (extra sauce), the kimchi oxtail tofu soup, and the tofu skin beef brisket over rice for takeout. I do not even know what motivated me to try their soup...it was a no go. A little spicy from the kimchi but overall bland. I guess I was hopeful for the kimchi soup aspect of it to be similar to the broth Qing Shu was able to offer. Nope. The spaghetti was OK. I was not a fan of the sausage and despite requesting for extra sauce, I feel like it was still not enough. However, my 2 year old daughter did enjoy it so it earns an extra star there (I wish they did not add so much black pepper to the parts under the sauce though...it was too much for the kid). My mother-in-law said the tofu skin was too hard for her to enjoy but the brisket was alright. I also saw that it was 85% rice. But since I did not try this dish and my mother-in-law is not a woman of many words (when it comes to food), I cannot give a proper rating. I am not certain if I would come back. 4.5/5 Food: Pretty decent, haven't seen a place with baked beef tongue before so that was a good pick. Scallion pancakes were good and fried chicken wings also had enough flavor! The baked pork chop over spaghetti was also on point. Service: Was a bit slow on Saturday, but everything else was good Would come back and try their combo menu next time. Ambiance: 3.5/5 They have only been opened for just maybe a month or two, but their chairs seem to be dirty, or maybe they were second handed chairs. The height of the chairs and the tables aren't proportional, and they aren't so comfortable when dining. It didn't look like they have redecorate it much since the last owner. Food: 2.5/5 Not so great. Shredded pork and pickled mustard greens soup with Mei Fun (肉絲雪菜米粉） $8. - the soup was blend and just eh. Black Pepper Steak over rice $10.50 - So so. Was excited to try a new HK-style cafe, but the food was a letdown. Everything looked great but tasted bland. The cheese fries had no salt, and the unmelted American cheese slices didn't help.
