We ordered a bowl of pho as well as a rice dish called Suon Kho and chicken wings to share. The wings were really good! The sauce was very interesting and I enjoyed the sweet and salty combo and they came out pipping hot. The Phi was very clean and easy to eat, would definitely recommend if you are ever at this spot. The rice dish however I did not enjoy as much. The presentation was very cute and the sauce was also done well however the meat just wasn't tender enough. I've had better Vietnamese food that wasn't as expensive. I feel like they're upcharging for the "beauty" of this restaurant (I can't lie, it's pretty in here). My bf and I shared a family-style Bo Kho (Beef stew), and it was tasty, but it wasn't really family-style. I could've easily eaten it myself, and they didn't give much food. Maybe I'm just a big back. We even had to order extra rice because it wasn't enough-- they said the stew came with banh mi, but they didn't even give a full piece of bread, like, bruhhhhh rationing I also felt like the soup wasn't thick enough to be called a stew; it was more like a broth. Note that their DUMBO location has more dishes, but also more expensive. I'd rather pay the long distance fee than the upcharge on the items --I'm talking about $18 vs $13.50 for the Beef Pho. Either way, the food was delicious and homey. I had the Beef Pho ($13.50), Hu Tieu Em ($12), and Banh Mi Dac Biet ($9.50). The pho was classic with a variety of sliced beef and broth was flavorful, definitely my go-to on a cold day or hungover. The Hu Tieu is something I don't usually get, but loved the various toppings that it came with soaked in the clean pork broth. It's refreshing with all the minced up green onions and cilantro, which is nice. Of course, the banh mi was very tasty with layers of meat and fresh veggies. It was decent but not the best Vietnamese I've had. The best part of the meal was the refreshing mocktail Pineapple Express which was so refreshing-it'd be so great if there was an alcoholic version. The mango tango was too subtle for me and maybe it was the yogurt or something that was a bit strange. The rolls were nice and great there were four of them. I was in the area visiting a friend, and we both were craving some good Vietnamese food. Em popped up on both of our searches, and it was only 5 minutes away. Parking was a bit tricky, but we found a spot in front after a short wait. The space itself is bright, cute and quaint.Seeming to be operating with a small staff.The lady we encountered was very friendly.We were seated quickly and given our menus to check out the offbrings.Seeing that a lot of the dishes had pork it limited the options for my friend and I who's a vegetarian and I am allergic to pork. One can have a spoonful taste of either pan-fried noodle, or soup noodle from others; as they're served in large bowls. We're new to the Brooklyn/Bay Ridge area and as pho-loving foodies, my husband and I eyed this place for quite some time before bringing our family of 6 here for dinner one evening. Our server was nice and patient. We asked if they had any soda and they didn't but told us there's a market next door so Hubby went over for some juice boxes and sodas. We both ordered 3 orders of the Pho Bo Em (1 for myself, 1 for my husband who asked for his with a beef rib, and 1 for two of our boys to split) and a Pho Ga for our other two to share, along with an order of the crispy spring rolls. Spring rolls were hot and fresh, and the boys really enjoyed them wrapped up in lettuce leaves with pickled carrot and daikon (I think). I don't normally give out such a low rating because I do my research beforehand AND I try a place twice before really deciding if I don't like it. However, after reading plenty of Yelp reviews of Em and being so hyped up to get our pho fixes, we were really disappointed. I'm not sure if the broth was watered down or if there was a shortage the weeknight we went in (around 5:30-6pm) but we've never had such a plain pho broth in any restaurant before (we've lived in a couple different states and have tried pho joints everywhere we've moved). The broth had a very subtle beef flavor and was lackluster. The prices were a high for what we tasted, and the amount of actual pho content was mediocre. Just scrolling on Uber Eats I found this spot and my husband and I decided to try it. We ordered it for delivery and it came pretty quick and was still warm when it arrived. As a fan of Em's Dumbo location, I knew this OG spot wouldn't disappoint. It's a smaller, no-frills location with a modest menu but the food still hits. Plus at a lower price point! Really can't go wrong with that. I had to get the hu tieu kho ($11 here, $17 in dumbo) which is one of my fave noodle dishes and it was perfect. My bf who had been feeling under the weather got the beef pho ($13 here, $17 in dumbo) and it cured his soul. We also shared a banh mi op la ($8) which is a classic banh mi w/ a fried egg. Halfway through the sandwich I realized that the bread wasn't scratching the roof of my mouth like banh mis usually do and I was thoroughly amazed. In my previous review, I mentioned that they didn't hit the spot as they used to, but they did hit the spot the many times I've been since then! I usually order the original Banh Mi Em and occasionally the Banh Mi Nem when I'm feeling a little more extra. Just beware of the jalapeños, they are still hella spicy! I also tried their Pho Bo (beef pho) for the first time recently and it was amazing. The broth is rich and decadent and the beef is semi-fatty and tender. The price is a bit steeper than other pho restaurants in the area, but it's well worth the upgrade. I had this placed bookmarked for a while and since my best friend and I were in the area we decided to come by here for a late lunch / early dinner. We came here around 4 pm on a Sunday and the place itself was fairly empty (it did get busy around 5 pm). The place itself is pretty small but they do have tables for like groups of 4-5. The menu was not too large but there was a lot of banh-mi options with really unique banh-mi's that sounded delicious. We decided to both get the Em Pho Bo - the soup base was delicious, super flavorful. The meat that was in the dish was very tender as well and not tough at all. Definitely one of the more flavorful soup bases that I have had for pho. The portion size was fair for the price (slightly more pricey than your usual traditional pho places). I really really wanted to love Em's since I heard raving reviews about their pho but we didn't love the pho here. We ordered the Hu Tieu ($11) and Pho Bo (with added shortrib so it came out to be $25). Overall, my partner and I thought the noodles were ok - but the bowl consisted of mostly noodles and very little additional toppings. The short rib was tender and came with quite some meat, but didn't have much flavor (to add this short rib it was an additional $12 or so - kind of pricey). We've gone to other locations that charge around the same price, but give a lot more meat and also have richer broths. The seating is a bit limited at this location if you're looking to dine in. The staff working there were super nice. While we didn't enjoy the food very much we did enjoy the smoothie we ordered! We ordered the Mango Tango Smoothie ($5) and it was super delicious. After having a particularly bad day, I came to Em seeking some good comfort food and got exactly what I was hoping for. I had been to Em years ago, but since moving back, this was the first time I stopped by. I was easily sold by the Pho Ga description of "Vietnamese chicken noodle soup for the soul" and ordered that and a limeade. The Pho Ga here is the ultimate comfort food. Although the broth is quite clear and unassuming, the first sip of broth is so delicious, flavorful, and comforting. The usual sides are provided (bean sprouts, jalapenos, basil, lime). There's also a little green sauce that packs a peppery punch. Portion size was perfect - I finished the bowl and felt quite satisfied. Generally, I don't try to finish the broth at pho places as they tend to be a bit much after finishing the noodles and whatnot, but I finished everything here! Honest confession - the pho ga impressed me so much that I ordered it again the next day for delivery. I took a sip of the broth straight from the container (without noodles or anything else), and can now say that this is one of my top 5 favorite chicken soups. Definitely will be returning soon! For the drinks - limeade and watermelon coolers are great choices.
