One person working during lunch time... Slow and broken English. 20 minuets to get a sandwich.

Not too bad. Young Asian woman making the sandwich was a little bit difficult to understand but was friendly and I got what I ordered.

Fort Hamilton Diner - Gyro Platter with curly fries

    Fort Hamilton Diner

    Fort Hamilton, Bay Ridge

Fort Hamilton Diner is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of Brooklyn. Every time we walk in,…read morethe place is practically empty, as if the entire neighborhood collectively decided to ignore the best food within a five‑mile radius. I don't know if people think it's too affordable, or if they're intimidated by the concept of flavor, but the fact that this diner isn't packed feels like a social experiment no one told us we were part of. The Food I ordered the focaccia with herb chicken and mozzarella, minus the bacon, plus a mountain of fries and a bowl of chicken soup that could fix childhood trauma. The focaccia was warm and pillowy, but the chicken... the chicken was so juicy and flavorful that I'm convinced they either brine it, braise it, or whisper ancient culinary incantations over it. Whatever the method, it works. And the mozzarella? They didn't sprinkle it. They didn't "add a touch." They deployed it. Easily a third to half a pound of molten dairy glory blanketing the entire sandwich like it was being tucked in for a long winter's nap. The chicken soup was unmistakably homemade -- that collagen-rich broth that clings to your lips like it's trying to sign a lease. Boxed broth could never. Bouillon cubes could never. This was soup with depth, soul, and possibly a moral compass. Meanwhile, the man ordered the gyro platter with curly fries and immediately ascended into a state of bliss normally reserved for people who discover unexpected tax refunds. He inhaled everything except a few curly fries, and considering the portions could feed a family of three, that's both impressive and mildly concerning. The Service One man -- one -- ran the entire front of the house. He greeted people, poured drinks, handled takeout orders, delivered plates, closed checks, and probably mediated international conflicts in the back when no one was looking. The man deserves a raise, a trophy, and possibly a parade. The Value Our total was about $46 for two overflowing plates, a bowl of soup, a soda, and a hot tea. In 2026, that's basically a public service. I've paid more for sandwiches that tasted like printer paper. Final Thoughts Fort Hamilton Diner is a hidden gem, a neighborhood treasure, and frankly, a place that deserves far more foot traffic than it gets. Consistent, delicious, affordable, and run by people who actually care -- it's the kind of diner you want to gatekeep but also want to scream about from the rooftops.

That was such a perfect idea. First thing we were there, and it was a warm and sultry morning at 6:30AM with the sun up to greet us along with a New York bridge adorning the scene to the south, with us eating outside on the sidewalk I could not imagine a better send off from this great world city. Bagels were a perfect breakfast and we sucked those back in a jiffy. Just as we were finishing, members of the US military, maybe national guardsmen, showed up in black SUVs right in front of us and parked. They got out, a gaggle of them and headed in for their bagels. Well that's something to remember and not an every day sight for us being from Canada, and added to the local flavour of this epic road trip.

I pulled up and I see "Mr" Bagels cafe. For Brooklyn, it sounds like pure class. I'm sure the owner must have a pinky ring. Walking inside, the bagel counter are front and center. To the left, is a coffee bar with multiple coffee choices. Nice looking spot. I ask for a Sesame Bagel with Cream Cheese. Would you like that toasted sir? Wait a second Years ago, I asked for my bagel toasted at Murrays Bagels in Chelsea. The guy behind the counter? He lost his mind! The next day, they put up a hand written sign: No Toasted Bagels So I'm always lerry when asking for extras. Except the bagel guy asked me so I feel relaxed. I pour myself a cup of delicious French Roast Coffee and my bagel is ready. The bagel is perfect. It has a nice chew, just a little too big but thats my personal taste. The cream cheese, even though it's plain, is very silky. Mr Bagels, thank you. Until we meet again.

This spot is pure Brooklyn, with some great sounding sandwiches. Trust me, I looked over the menu and wanted to try everything on the menu. The #6 was a fantastic choice, Fresh Brooklyn Italian bread with a perfectly Fried Chicken Cutlet and topped with Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella and completed with an Oil Balsamic drizzle. Cash only spot, that's ok. Take my money! I'm coming back for the Thursday Special, the Homemade Roast Beef and Melted Fresh Mozzarella sandwich. (How awesome does that sound?!)

Do I really have to? Lol
