    Mushroom Fish
    Carrie C.

Nai Brother opened another location on 86th Street. They serve rice noodle soup and dry pot, though the menu is pretty limited if you can't handle spice. I've picked up takeout here several times for both lunch and dinner. Their signature Chinese sauerkraut fish soup is solid. The fish is soft, served in a tangy, spicy broth. The marbled beef dry hot pot was also good. I requested it less spicy, but you still get that numbing kick from the Sichuan peppercorns. My usual non spicy go to is the mushroom fish pot, which has a rich, savory mushroom flavor. Portions are generous for the price, and the staff seems efficient.

My best friend is absolutely obsessed with this spot for it's a sauerkraut fish. It's main items are sauerkraut fish, but it does have a spicy pot option similar to malatang. There's also options that have a mushroom base if you don't like fish. They also have little snacks and appetizers such as popcorn chicken There is usually no line for dine in and the food is always consistent and delicious. They also have options to select a size in case you want a larger portion or a smaller portion. Quick and delicious food, what more is there to ask for

Good food with affordable pricing. The kimchi flavor is my personal favorite but the fish is sooo tender and soft. Love the glass noodles as the extra touch. Personally I can do with less of the chilli spice and more of a peppercorn numbing spice. The house signature flavor was more of that sour and spice combo which is what you expect from Szechuan fish with sour cabbage/ suan cai yu. However, both had good heat to them. The service was good and food came out fast. Restaurant was pretty empty when I went in with lots of seating. At the end, I was soo full but I still wanted to continue eating more! Both dishes were $28 which is good.

One of my favorite place on 86th to have saukrest fish . They added rice noodle on the menu and it was delicious in tomato broth. Broth was thick and we chose the marble beef. The flavor of this place is immaculate with different spice level. Service was quick and not really packed on weekends and weekdays. Even if it was the wait is not too long.

Casual spot with great sauerkraut fish and generous portions. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. An underrated neighborhood gem.

    Fresh Mushroom Soup Base

Decent spot overall, though some of the soups were hit or miss. The tomato soup tasted like it came straight out of a can, which I really didn't enjoy. On the other hand, the spicy beef dry pot and the sliced fish with mushroom soup were definitely much better and stood out more.

3.5/5 Generous portions for the fish and add-ons (sooo much fatty beef) - the broth wasn't too pungent so I appreciated that. Pretty good, I wouldn't mind getting the pickled broth again. We had enough leftovers to even bring home. Intestines dry pot was flavorful, the pieces of intestines were on the softer side, but they didn't give too much of this. Saliva chicken - this is what ruined the meal for me haha, the sauce they poured on this was not good at all, not like the liquidy flavorful Sichuan chili oils usually used for this dish. It was goopy/thick? A cornstarch slurry sauce? Yikes. And weirdly sweet too

Ordered the mixed mushroom soup with beef and the dry pot with fish (no spice). The mushroom soup one was 8.5/10, heavy mushroom flavor but was light and left you wanting more. It came with extra mushroom and cabbage topping as well. Only complaint is that the fat from the beef made the soup murky and oily. The dry fish with no spice was also really good but lacking some flavor, I'll give it 7.5/10. It's typical dry spice seasoning but I guess because I got no spice, it also lacked a little flavor punch that you normally get from dry pot. Overall, solid place, would come back to try their other flavors. Dishes came out quick and service is standard, no complaints.

Very reasonable prices with huge portions and very flavorable dishes. Very attentive to customer.

Great dinner spot around 86st! My husband and I have been here a few times and we enjoyed the food! Portions are huge and you will leave very full. My favorite is actually is the dry pot with fish, normally I'll have leftover for the next day. My husband likes the fish soups, we've tried a few (forgot the name of them but his favorite was the green one). It's a casual spot, we've been pretty lucky and get seated right away.

86th street location -- Delicious food Even when we order takeout, the food comes hot & fresh! They don't skimp on the portions and it's always neatly packaged with a bowl of rice. Love it !

Great value! Huge portion... I could've saved half for another meal!! Every entree comes with a big bowl of rice so it's super filling! Very clean restaurant! Service is great! Attentive!

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. When my friend suggested we go here, I didn't think I would enjoy it. We arrived at 2:30pm on Sunday and the restaurant was packed. For a party of 6, we had to wait 10 minutes for a table. We ordered two dishes, seafood soup and dry pot. Both dishes were extremely spicy. It was a slow burn. I didn't feel my mouth numb until a minute or two later. The dish had one pepper symbol on the menu. I wonder how spicy the ones with two peppers. Overall, I enjoyed the dishes we had. Both of them were flavorful. The hostess and waitress were nice.

The food was very fairly priced and the portions were huge. We got the pork soup dumplings, pork fried rice, szechuan chicken (which came with white rice), and pad see ew (which though not listed comes with pork, chicken, and shrimp). Everything was solid, but our favorite was the fried rice which had a ton of flavor. I liked the veggies that were in the chicken dish but there were just way too many of them compared to the chicken and I wasn't crazy about the sauce. The pad see ew wasn't made the traditional way I've had it with soy sauce and oyster sauce. It had some sort of orange sauce that tasted closer to a sweet and sour. It wasn't bad it was just not what I was hoping for. The soup dumplings were solid, no complaints there. And the fried rice was great, lots of flavor. Overall, I liked this place especially for the price but I'd probably order different things if I went back.

I found parking down the block and walked over to the restaurant. It seems like more of a delivery spot because there was no one inside sitting at any of the 5 tables. It's a fairly good size space, very simply decorated, mixed with a cool wall resembling a curio cabinet of treasures. I chose a spot in the middle and went to the restroom which was clean and simple. I noticed there were a lot of takeout orders, from delivery services to local folks picking up their regular dinner. I looked over the menu and decided on salt and pepper wings and an order of shrimp. Fried Rice came out first and it was delicious. I even tasted a hint of salted egg yolk mixed into the egg mixture friefried up with the rice that signature crispiness with the little saltiness.... fantastic. The salt and pepper wings were different than the ones i'm accustomed to though the flavor was amazing. It didn't have the fried garlic, peppers, chilis, and onions that i'm accustomed to being in the dish. They were still flavorful, juicy and crisp and I could tell they cooked them fresh. That was much appreciated. I ended up taking half of my food home because I was stuffed.Thank you Msm Ellen and the Crown Garden crew for a tasty solo dinner.

There was nothing that I ordered that needed ketchup. Nothing. There wasn't even soy sauce in the bag. Then had the unmitigated gall to charge $22 for the salt baked shrimp and told me I had to pay $5 extra to substitute the lo mein for white rice. Who is eating white rice with shrimp? Girl bye. I'm not paying almost $30 for one meal from a hood Chinese spot. If there's no heat in your establishment, your prices need to be in lowercase. If it looks like you might catch staph in your establishment, your prices need not to be so loud. I also believe they overcharged me. They did have a sign saying that the prices went up, but I think they may have been too cheap to print out a new menu if that was the case. I was going off of what they had on the wall for the general public. So as I stated, I ordered crab Rangoon ($7, allegedly), honey wings ($7, allegedly), a shrimp egg roll ($2, allegedly), spare rib tips with fried rice ($12, allegedly). My total was $31. My assumption is they probably charged me extra for pork fried rice, which I didn't ask him for. I know for a fact they are not charging tax because there's no way that you're forcing people to pay in cash while also charging them for taxes that you don't pay. The crab Rangoon was actually pretty decent even though I didn't have the sauce that comes with it. The honey wings were OK. They actually taste more like honey BBQ. I prefer C&Y honey wings. It's real honey and stay hot for an hour due to the way honey maintains heat. I also don't appreciate when these spots chop up a wing and call it two wings. 1 wing is the entire thing. STINGY. The spare rib tips I don't like and neither do I like their pork fried rice. The rice is a bit bland and I don't like those large spare rib tips. I prefer the boneless spare rib tips that C&Y has. A shrimp roll is a shrimp roll is a shrimp roll. It wasn't too bad and it was actually pretty happy. The shrimp was a little bit larger than those baby shrimp that they normally stuff in shrimp rolls. Their pricing is on par with C&Y yet I don't have no issues paying what they ask and their food is good aside from their lo mein. They are not stingy and have pretty decent customer service unlike the guy who took my order here who paused my order to take another order over the phone and tend to the person behind me. This is what I get for cheating on my spot and being lazy when they both were far af.

However, the real negative here is the operations. It is a chaotic mess for the volume they are trying to do. It's not about adding more manpower, it's about streamlining.
