My partner and I stopped in for dinner on a weekend and it was totally empty. The interior is quite nice, more upscale than we expected, and the staff were attentive. We ordered the same dishes we usually get at a Hunanese/Sichuanese restaurant: blistered green beans, mapo tofu, and dry chili chicken. The blistered green beans were the standout: the right amount of blistered, with pork and mustard greens. The mapo tofu was well sauced, though the tofu pieces themselves were a little bland. And the dry chili chicken was tasty, but a little too fried for my taste. Overall, this was a pretty good, fairly priced joint in the neighborhood. I'll likely be back when I'm craving some some Sichuanese staples but don't want to venture too far out of the neighborhood! read more

Hunan Delight is another Asian restaurant that I've been eating from for decades- very infrequently but still... Today I pulled up for the takeout, lunch special. Very tasty, tender beef and broccoli. My broccoli was really close to being soggy but I guess the cook got it out of the wok just in time. Fried rice was bland and a bit dried out. The wonton soup was delicious but only two soup dumplings though??? As far as cost, Hunan Delight is a deal. This is a lovely Chinese restaurant with great ambiance: beautiful calligraphy on the walls, nice furnishings including banquettes, soft 70's and 80's James Taylor-style music playing. The seemingly all female wait staff is very attentive. Now for the food-we ordered pan fried chicken dumplings, which were slightly overcooked and very salty. For entrees, we had chicken with broccoli. The broccoli was tender crisp and the chicken cooked perfectly but this was obscured by the obscene amount of salt (or MSG [one of the nice waitresses admitted reluctantly that they "sometimes" use MSG]). Our other dish was Filet of Fish with Mixed Vegetables. It was fried (which was not indicated on the menu), spicy (which was indicated, and overly salted (salt or MSG). All in all, a great disappointment. They need to leave out MSG and say so in print on their sign and menus. As a dear friend used to say "you can't eat ambience." read more

I'm always looking for new places to try thus I Yelped Chinese restaurants that were a hop skip and a jump away from Gold Street. Gotta map those hunger quest folks in advance. Additionally, I scope out eateries that gave Lunch Specials and of course Hunan Delight offers a nice variety from faves like Sesame Chicken to Mixed Veggies with Chicken or Shrimp. The specials come with choice of rice and soup( egg drop, wonton or hot and sour). I mixed it up a bit.. I really wanted an egg roll and haven't had one in quite some time. Thus, I ordered a bit off: egg roll and mixed vegetables with baby shrimp. I took the wonton soup to go. The restaurant was empty thus my food came out quick:; I really wanted egg roll first then my main but both came out at once which I have to be honest, it shouldn't. ( 1 star chopped due to this). Servers need to politely ask does diner want it all at once or space between. The shrimp and mixed veggies was delicious and plentiful in both shrimp and veggies. I loved it. The egg roll when I got to it @30 minutes later was lukewarm but really good. The size of dining room is spacious but a bit dated. The service is courteous and sweet. I definite recommend Hunan Delight for a nice long lunch and it's so close to 5th Avenue shopping area thus walking off lunch is highly recommended. read more

What a shame that the very last good Chinese food place has now went to crap. I used to travel all the way from Sheepshead Bay once a week to pick up food for the family. I tried this place two weeks in a row and the chicken is now like rubber and the sauce has no flavor whatsoever. It's such a shame that all these restaurants are being forced to go cheap on the ingredients. The food is abysmal right now and they will not be seeing me any longer. The last few rep visits to this place have been lackluster to say in the least. And the beginning of the pandemic the food still had the same flavor and quality, but now not so much. I don't know whether they change shifts or just because they have reduced their operation significantly, it seems they've let quality slide. The shrimp fried rice no longer has any flavor and the amount and quality of ingredients also have dissipated. I was chewing and found a a hard piece of something in it! You can compare the photos of the rice itself and see a big difference. The veggie chicken, was kind of tough last time, so I didn't bother ordering it. One of my very favorite things they used to make, the vegetarian wonton soup, has hardly any filling, $5 for what? I don't know if I'll be back because it is pretty far drive to only be getting the bare minimum. Only reason I gave 3 stars is the staff is still friendly. read more

This place saved the day Christmas Eve when my brother decided to cancel our Christmas plans the morning of. The place was packed that day but luckily we managed to snag a table. We ordered delivery from here and were pleasantly surprised! We don't eat Chinese food that often, so we had to do some research for places in the area. They weren't available on the delivery apps, but we called to place an order and they delivered to us! Just paid cash when they arrived. It's definitely going to last the two of us at least 2 meals - Scallion pancakes: They arrived a bit soggy, but as expected if you're getting delivery. If you heat them in the toaster oven, they crisp right up. Can't go wrong - Wontons in hot sesame sauce: I liked the spicy sesame sauce but the skin to meat ratio is wayyy off. The wonton skins are also very thick, so I ended up taking most of it off. I'd pass on this next time - Beef chow fun: Decent! It came with shredded carrots instead of scallions, but I didn't mind. It gets the job done if you're craving this dish - Dragon and Phoenix: one of the Chef Special entrees. It comes with pretty large shrimps, chicken, snow peas, green bell peppers, shitake mushrooms, and baby corn in a brown sauce. This one was yummy! and again, big portion. Husband used to come here twenty years ago and guess what? Still here, still going strong!! And not surprising, as it is good solid Chinese food. Friendly quick service. As far as the neighborhood goes, Hunan Delight is a serviceable and prompt Chinese delivery option with generous portions. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends. After giving this place a few chances, I can't really recommend the food itself nor really entertain another order here. It doesn't have flavor that satisfies or even matches what you expect from classic dishes. The rice comes massively overcooked, and most recently, the main was burnt. This is the kind of Chinese food I expect from small town USA, not in a city where otherwise there are much better options to compete with. This is more of a Public Service Announcement than a review. After going to Hunan Delight for two decades, I received an order of COMPLETELY ROTTEN eggplant. I was immediately refunded, but upset that I no longer feel safe from ordering from a restaurant I trusted for 20 years. I took a deep breath for three days before posting here. After shopping around Park Slope's grocery stores the last few days, the neighborhood seems to lack quality control with fresh produce. Within the last few days, I noticed rotten garlic, eggplant, lettuce, escarole, tomatoes, and more on the shelves of several stores. In The City, grocery stores like Westside Market, are trying their best by replacing garden salads with "salads" that are all nuts, Couscous, and dried fruit and other "trail mix" ingredients that I don't care for, but have longer shelf lives. Yes, there is COVID-19 out there, but bad food KILLS too! In all fairness, I think Hunan Delight is doing the best they can with the resources they have...but I'm not eating it! I have not given up on Hunan Delight, but they need to step up their game. If certain fresh produce is not available, sadly, they should truncate their awesomely large menu. Came here in my pursuit to find a new chinese restaurant and I'm pretty underwhelmed. They are delivery and pick up only which fits my needs. However, their food is not super tasty. I ordered pork fried rice with pork egg foo young and both items were pretty bland. The sauce for the pork egg foo young was super bland super thin. The rice was basic (and it was served with green peas). In my honest opinion, this was very comparable to that of panda express. I also ordered the 8 piece chicken wings (they are more wingettes than chicken wings) They had a weird underlying ginger taste. Definitely was not a fan! For the price, i would say you could do alot better, but idk. Park slope has way better restaurants IMO. I was hoping that i would be able to find a new chinese restaurant, but i guess my hunt will continue!! read more

The reviews are right-- this place definitely serves up some delicious American Chinese food. In fact, so far, it's the best I've had in Brooklyn! I did have to jump on a train to get there and could have just as easily made it to Chinatown (and probably got there faster) ... but I'm a Brooklyner now, and I want to support my borough and explore the best of the best right here =) Plus, this place is very nice and modern inside, and atmosphere makes a huge difference to me. On my first visit, I saw a couple of Asian women prepping fresh green beans near the kitchen, so I ordered Chicken with Green Beans with Egg Fried Rice and an egg roll. Everything was fresh and above average... and quite delicious. Also, note that I had food envy looking at other patrons' tables--that is, everything I saw being delivered to other tables looked amazing.
