I haven't eaten here for 30 years when we left Park Slope for Echo Park. We're Park folk. The cold shredded sesame chicken and a side of brown rice still taste the same. Perfect. Sometimes sugary-sauced sesame chicken, pork fried rice and fried pork dumplings are the only things that can ease the pain of the Rangers losing yet another overtime game. Hunan Delight has you covered here. It isn't winning any awards, but it's cheap, delivery is quick, and it's the best of its ilk in the Slope. The reviews are right-- this place definitely serves up some delicious American Chinese food. In fact, so far, it's the best I've had in Brooklyn! I did have to jump on a train to get there and could have just as easily made it to Chinatown (and probably got there faster) ... but I'm a Brooklyner now, and I want to support my borough and explore the best of the best right here =) Plus, this place is very nice and modern inside, and atmosphere makes a huge difference to me. On my first visit, I saw a couple of Asian women prepping fresh green beans near the kitchen, so I ordered Chicken with Green Beans with Egg Fried Rice and an egg roll. Everything was fresh and above average... and quite delicious. Also, note that I had food envy looking at other patrons' tables--that is, everything I saw being delivered to other tables looked amazing. As you can see I don't write many reviews but this feels warranted after a ridiculous argument over broccoli. We ordered a $20 General Tso's Shrimp which seems ridiculous in itself considering it looks like ordinary Chinese takeout, but I get it. Food costs are up and the location is expensive. I even rolled with the $2 charge for extra broccoli. What I can't roll with is them not giving extra broccoli and then arguing with me that they had when I called. It's not about the $2 it's the fact that they basically called me a liar and then said extra broccoli means they'll give 4 extra pieces. There are only 4 tiny, overdone pieces that equal one large floret in the dish. I guess this was worth a bad review and losing a customer to them. read more

We are regulars here. Have both dined in pre pandemic, and more recently get takeout. Lunch specials are a solid deal and includes your choice of brown, white or fried rice and a soup or soda. Expectations weren't terribly high going into Hunan Delight, as it was a paid-for dinner with classmates and faculty, and that the names of most Chinese restaurants in this area follow a generic formula combining the name of a place in China + a word that invokes the senses (Case in point, the two closest Chinese take-out joints on my street in Greenwood are aptly called "China Delight" and "Taste of China.") Makes you wonder if there's an algorithm that all aspiring Chinese restauranteurs use, based on availability Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. The folks at Hunan Delight excel at making Chinese (or "Chinese-inspired", if you're a purist) dishes that are friendly to the American palate. None of the dishes I had here were so unique I could not have found them on another standard menu, but they were all well-made--from the dumpling appetizers to their Peking duck (which was cooked to perfection but served without the tangy plum sauce--a glaring omission!) It's as if they surveyed the competiton in their neighborhood and decided that they would one-up them. The service here too was remarkable, considering we had almost 30 guests and orders flying left and right. Solid, delicious American-Chinese food. I ordered the BBQ ribs, beef broccoli, and beef chow fun. Very standard and basic fast food, which they nailed 100%-I loved it! The flavor and texture was very on point. The chow fun was nice a chewy, not over cooked and mushy like other places. It was also dry-which is classic Cantonese and not drowned in gravy (totally Americanized version). I wished they had scallions or chives in it, but the shredded carrots and onions added a nice crunch. The beef broccoli was nice and perfectly cooked. The broccoli was crunchy and the beef was nice and tender. So yummy. The ribs were a bit sugary sweet and not honey sweet like I am used to, but it was good nonetheless. I definitely would order here anytime the craving for American-Chinese food strikes. read more

I tried to find the words to describe the food that I received and it is: CRAPTASTIC. This restaurant has high marks because the food is delicious and fresh. WTF happened??!! I was so disappointed. The broccoli in the shrimp and broccoli was brown, wilted and over cooked. I believe the duck I was served died of old age. Who knew you could get duck this tough and dried out. CRISPY HONEY CHICKEN. I repeat, CRISPY HONEY CHICKEN. It was so good. Sweet, saucy, crunchy, and a huge portion. It came with white rice and I could eat it for days. My partner had the chicken and shrimp combo platter which he liked but I didn't care for it. The menu was big so it was hard to choose a dish but I think I chose the best one. I loved the hot green tea served. We dined late on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. The restaurant is pretty big and the service was great. The plates were a little pricy, but it was a nice treat. We also tried an egg roll (not pictured). It was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and stuffed with flavor on the inside. But I have a huge appreciation now for the staff for working with me to cater and deliver lunch for a group of my students. This has been our go to Chinese take out for years. Reliably good and incredibly fast. They keep your account by phone number so never a problem with incorrect address like I have had with others. So quick my friends and I used to say they must be cooking it up in the backseat of the car as they were on the way to deliver. Our favorites include steamed shrimp dumplings, hot & sour soup (just the right spicy kick) chicken with ginger, tofu with vegetables. Yum. I LOVE this place. Best casual Chinese takeout/ dine-in place in the area by a landslide. I have a slightly unpopular opinion about casual Chinese take-out places in the NYC metro area (a cuisine style very dear to my Jewish heart). I find that when I am in northern NJ/ on Long Island and I stumble into a random place, there is a 99% chance of it being amazing. In the 5 boroughs despite people here claiming everything is somehow better- the chance of it being good seems to always drop down to around 50%. Same goes for pizza and bagels. This place however reminds me exactly of what it is like to get take-out from a good place in northern NJ or Long Island. It is just solidly good and reliable. I appreciate their existence very much, because there is A LOT of not so good places out there in Brooklyn/ some of the other boroughs. Of course I am not talking about areas like Sunset Park, which is amazing- but rather the specific category of American-style casual Chinese take-out food, which is what I've learned to love so much since I was 4 years old. read more

I have dined here and ordered takeout from here. The food is overpriced but I like to do my part in supporting local business. My to-go order from last time will not lead me back here again. The customer service isn't doing this place any favors. Ordering to-go, my friend and I walked to the Old Stone House, looking to eat on one of the picnic tables. As we were ready to eat, it turns out they forgot utensils. We were frustrated, but hey, innocent mistake. We walked back to Hunan Delight to ask for utensils. We were told that they don't offer utensils and pretty much made it seem like it was our fault for not telling them. Getting in touch with the restaurant's social media, we were told they were not offering utensils because they were going "green." This is an obvious lie in trying to be cheap. If they were going green, why would they pack everything in plastic containers? Why were they packed in plastic bags? This made no sense. This is the only restaurant in Park Slope where I have experienced this. I will be visiting other Chinese restaurants that are better and not overpriced. read more

Great service and food! We called in takeout the old fashion way- right from the phone! It came in under 45 minutes and was great because the tip goes directly to the business/delivery guy and not a third party. Everything was hot and fresh. We ordered veggie lo mein, the seafood delight, shrimp egg rolls, the chef's special ginger fish fillets, and the crispy honey chicken. The seafood delight was true to its name! Steamed in a flavorful sauce, meant to be poured into a crispy noodle bowl (that actually remained enact through delivery!) . Pretty fun to eat. I truly loved the chef's special ginger fish fillets. The fish was fried crispy then covered in a bright, savory ginger sauce with peas and pieces of shredded ginger in it. Super tasty. My BF loved the honey crispy chicken, reminded me of general tso's but different. Can't go wrong with some lo mein and eggs to sop up all the flavors. Ordered sweet and sour chicken on a lunch special via delivery, which should have the sauce packed seperately so the battered chicken doesnt steam into a gooey soggy mess, which is what i got. When i called to have them resend one with the sauce on the side, the hostess refused and was incredibly rude, insisting that they always ruin the dish for lunch specials?? I have been on quite a hunt for some really good chinese food. I'm talking Brooklyn's best listed Chinese food and well I think I might have found it. Thanks to a Yelp Elite friend and some good researching Hunan Delight is by far the best Chinese food I have ever tasted. I know that my past reviews of Kum Kau have been explained as the best but Hunan Delight takes the crown...sorry Kum Kau. I tried the vegetable Mei Fun and hubby had the combination General Tso Chicken extra spicy with egg fried rice and pork egg roll. All the food was very fresh and the flavor was great. Not too greasy or oily and the meat was cooked well. I have become a regular but forget to check-in sometimes. I eat here all the time food is yum and veggies are crisp. This is important because a lot of Asian restaurants give you rubbery frozen veggies. I love the soup and the little crispy noodle chips they put out for the table as well. Actually never had a drink here so I can't speak for that part. There is no actual bartender so if you do it's probably best to stick with wine and straight mixes... The portions are big, I always have leftovers. The staff is not rude but very quiet. They don't say much besides Hello, Thank you, you're welcome, see you soon. Never had any issues and I've been coming here for years. Also they have a little outdoor seating on side. read more

Man I'm on the fence about this place! When I first found it on yelp I was so excited based on the reviews! I was sure I found the best chinese food in Brooklyn not to mention they have vegetarian options which made me leap for joy! It was a rainy night and after all the moving me and my boyfriend did the only thing that would satisfy is us was sugary, savory hot chinese food. We ordered the veggie dumplings and the general tso faux chicken and the faux curry chicken with brown rice. We got it home ready to devour it and sadly we were let down. The food just was not good. The dumplings were doughy, chewy and just way too thick to enjoy. The general tso wasn't crispy or flavorful it was just blah... The curry was ok but the soy chicken was chewy... Also while we were inside the floors were dirty and the service wasn't so friendly... Not to mention for 3 items we paid 38 dollars for takeout.... Hunan Delight is the best Chinese food in a neighborhood that lacks good Chinese food. That said, this is the best the area has got for Americanized Chinese food. And if you're lucky enough to be in it's delivery radius (sadly I am not), you have a pretty good option whenever you have a craving. A step above Mr. Wonton (another Park Slope spot), you'll find better food and a larger menu here. The space is larger and it's a much nicer place. Portions are big and the staff is friendly. They do charge Park Slope types of prices, however. As I mentioned, it's the best the area has got, but there isn't a reason they should be charging so much, it's still not mind blowing or really amazing. Just very good. Either way it's not going to break the bank, I just know much better places that charge less. So if you want pick up, or get the best in the area, or maybe you want to sit down and enjoy a meal, Hunan Delight is your spot. read more

Our favorite Chinese place in the neighborhood. It's become our go to staple in Brooklyn for many years and we always regret it when we get Chinese elsewhere. Everything we select from the menu has been good for us. Fresh and tasty with many vegetarian choices. After a recent surgery, I wanted to come here for take out. It was the best kind of post surgery medicine. I don't think I will ever forget that meal of spinach, ginger fish, wonton soup with beef and broccoli and scallion pancakes. It sustained me for days.
