Solidly good Chinese food. They were my neighborhood spot when I lived down the street. Have to stop in again sometime.

Wing Hua is a Chinese restaurant in Carroll Gardens, and they're old school. You won't find them on Grubhub or Caviar (at least, not as of March 2021). It's cash only (ATM in the lobby) and they deliver locally. Call ahead if you know what you want. I finally stopped by today and ordered up a couple of lunch specials to share with my girlfriend. The General Tso's chicken was enjoyable: crispy chicken bites in a sweet, garlicky sauce. Not the typical sauce, and not very spicy, but still good. The boneless spare ribs also hit the spot. The white rice was fresh and pure, while the fried rice was refreshingly not greasy, and didn't taste old or stale. The egg drop soup was light and simple, but the hot and sour soup was extraordinary. No complaints on the food front. The best part is that the prices are low. Most lunch specials are in the $7 range. Fast, convenient, cheap, tasty. It's great to have a place like this in the neighborhood, and I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu I'm the future. read more

I love that they're open late, and when they're good they're some of the best Chinese American takeout I've ever had, but they're not consistent. When they're on point I really like their dumplings. The skin is too thick like at most Chinese American places but the pork filling is sooo juicy and flavorful. Ditto for fried wontons. Lo men and chow mein are both good. I really like their wonton soup broth, I think it's not bland like at other places. General Tso's isn't spicy enough for me but the meat is tender. Scallion pancakes are too greasy for me. read more

Feeling under the weather, Chinese soup can be a comforting, reliable remedy. When my first preference, Chinese takeout, showed two workers in the kitchen preparing food without any facial coverings, I quickly fled and ended up here. Shame on them. I've had very few deliveries with Wing Hua in the past. In terms of quality, this place is comparable or somewhat inferior to my first choice. Overall, they are both American Chinese and a dying breed in my neighborhood. Many have disappeared. My order was simple--chicken rice soup (already prepared) and a pint of vegetable chow mein. Everyone in the kitchen wore masks, there was a plexiglass divider, hand sanitizer and 4 people including myself waiting for our orders. I was the first to arrive. As they took priority preparing delivery orders, I waited. And waited. I waited a while. The only woman in the kitchen seemed to ignore my questions regarding my order. Finally, someone assisted me and worked on my simple order. This was unacceptable. When I got home, the soup's broth was really yellow. The taste was mediocre but I ate it anyway since I was not feeling well. Moral of the story--I will try my best to not return here. read more

Quintessential hood Chinese food spot in the heart of Carroll Gardens. Pork or Vegetable dumplings are good but cook in the same pan. But if you need that general tso fix when you randomly come out the local clinic then this is the place for you. Don't forget that homemade ice tea before you hop the train. read more

I will never, ever, ever, ever buy food from here again, primarily because of the front woman who was just plain rude.

This is my kind of place, the old school, no frills quick Chinese food joint. No bells or whistles, Wing Hua has a few tables if you want to stay but it's really for a quick order and pickup. Got the broccoli and garlic sauce lunch special for $5.75, they lose a star because they only give you a can of soda OR a soup, not both. That's getting a little skimpy but the food is just what i wanted. Fast and made to order, they even give you the option of pork or no pork in your fried rice, which some places do not do. I was there for 5 minutes and just about everyone else was ordering chicken and french fries, which is also now a staple of fast Chinese food joints in many parts of Brooklyn. I hate to write a 1 star review during times of COVID when all restaurants are hurting, but I don't think fraudulent businesses should continue to operate. We ordered a simple dish costing over $8. After handing over a $50 bill and apologizing that we unfortunately don't have a smaller bill, the cashier provided change as if we had given him a $20. He proceeded to take out a crumpled $20 bill claiming that that's what we paid even though we handed over a crisp $50. The cashier claimed they don't have security video footage and there was nothing we could do to prove otherwise. This is highly disappointing as we have ordered from them periodically over the past 30 years or so. The new people working there cannot be trusted. read more

Either you're craving that cheap, generic Chinese food -- the kind that has been a staple in this city for decades -- or you're not. If you are on Yelp, then you're probably not. It is hard to make a shrimp egg roll inevitable, but this place manage to do it. For a Monday, the oil was either old or destroyed by cooking what looked like 50 lbs of chicken wings. My egg rolls were coated with the chicken wing coating. On top of that, it absorbed massive amounts of oil. read more

I usually get their "Dinner for one" special. For $8.95 it comes with a soup, a starch and 2-3 sides. This usually lasts me about 2 meals (sometimes three), which is great when you are on a budget. The food is decent, and you get A LOT of it. I like their string beans with pork in garlic sauce, and their hot and sour soup is delicious. Ofcourse, it's not as good as eating in Chinatown. Totally acceptable Chinese take-out. Definitely the best in Carroll Gardens. We had the "Dinner for one only" for $8.95. Two people were full after sharing it. We chose the Pork and String Beans in garlic sauce with white rice, and substituted an egg roll for the other fried items that come as sides. It was clean and tasty. The egg roll was fried and bad for your health, but tasty as well. I know people like their Hot n Sour soup, but we found the texture to be too thick and viscous. Too much egg! I'd try the Wonton soup next time instead. Other Chinese places in the neighborhood have made us unhappy. But, overall, we were happy with this. read more

To be fair, I'm rating this compared with the hundreds of other, simple corner takeaways* around NYC, not a proper sit-down Chinese eatery. It's a place I wouldn't go out of my way to try, but a place worth trying if you are in the area, hungry, and want a quick, cheap meal. I got one of their lunch specials, spicy garlic shrimp, and for a mere $5.50, was quickly made a pig portion of rice and a decent portion of fresh cooked shrimp, mushrooms, pepper, broccoli and some other veggies. While it wasn't particularly spicy or garlic-laden (dare them to kick it up next time), it was light, fresh and probably better for me (waist-wise) than the pizza slices I had contemplated nearby. You also get a soup or drink with those combos... which if you think about it is a cheaper meal than fast food places. * this place seemed a lot more cleaner, faster and fresher than many peers. read more

My new place for Chinese in the neighborhood!!! I have tried them all and Wing Hua is by far my favorite! Shrimp Egg Rolls are twice the size of the egg rolls at all the other local spots! Crab Rangoon is better then all the other spots! I love the Kung Pao Chicken, Garlic Beef with vegetable fried rice, but my favorite is the Singapore Mei Fun with no pork! I personally adore this Chinese place. I've eaten here so many times that I practically know everyone that works there. Especially the delivery guy. He is super sweet. The food always comes hot and fresh when I order and for the price, the amount of food is bountiful. I prefer it over Me & My Eggroll (whose chicken & broccoli sauce looks something like a male fluid) and Ting Hua on Smith St, where the only size order for General Tso's Chicken is a large that costs $8.50. Pretty standard, nothing exceptional. However a million times better than Me and My Egg Roll. Pros: Mei Fun was good. Egg Foo Young was fine. Chicken with string beans was pretty standard The Kom Chon Gai was outstanding. I would order from here just to get that. Got a free 2-liter bottle of Pepsi, but we don't drink soda. Cons: Hot & Sour soup was sweet, which I just don't understand why some places do that. They need a trip Szechuan Gourmet on 39th and 5th to get a taste of the best hot and sour soup. Chicken wings, egg roll, some sort of deep-fried shrimp (a little weird), boneless spare ribs (awesome), and some meat on a stick (don't know what it was, just that it rocked).
