Aluminum and dirt
Donika J.

Very disappointed, I ordered the Pad See Yu noodles with shrimp.. got to work and the shrimp was so tiny but the flavor was good.. So I took a pic of the dish, ready to leave a review raving about the flavor. It's not until I zoomed in on the pic and discovered the container it was in was dirty.. and I discovered there were tiny pieces of aluminum foil on it. I instantly lost my appetite, because now I'm wondering did I consume any of that. I wiped the rim of the container with a napkin and the dirty was even more obvious. I prayed my entire shift that I wouldn't get sick.

First, the owners are some of the kindest, most thoughtful hosts you could hope to meet. You can feel how much they care about their community the moment you walk in. They've also made real efforts to make the space accessible for different bodies, which is something that far too few restaurants consider. That level of intention and hospitality truly stands out. And then there's the food -- absolutely phenomenal. Every dish feels intentional, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Standouts for me: Shrimp Toast - the best I've ever had. Perfectly crisp, rich, and balanced. Duck - deeply flavorful and cooked to perfection. Ribs - tender, savory, and incredibly satisfying. Char Siu - sweet, smoky, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Eggplant - unbelievably delicious and a must-order. Monkey King is the kind of place you leave already planning your next visit. Amazing food, genuine hospitality, and a space that feels welcoming and thoughtful. Highly recommend supporting this gem.

Even the bathroom was impressively nice, which always says a lot about a restaurant's attention to detail. The food and drinks were on point. The crab fried rice, fried shrimp toast, rib lamb were all flavorful and well-prepared. One standout for me was the spring rolls--they were so good, crispy and packed with flavor. The drinks were also great, making the overall dining experience even better. Between the great food, nice atmosphere, and convenient location, it's definitely a place I'd go back to again. Alexa greeted us and took our order she's amazing! If you're planning a date night or a nice dinner out, Monkey King is a solid choice.

Got brunch here on a Sunday with a friend. We split the Hot Honey Gem Salad and Hottokeki (Japanese…read moresoufflé pancake). The pancake is gigantic and is absolutely meant to be shared. It was really fluffy and smelled soooo good (reminiscent of the HK street cart waffles). But because it's so big, by the time we ate half of it, we were getting a little tired of the same taste. The salad was good but nothing to rave about. For drinks, we tried the Lebowski-San and Kettl Hojicha Kombucha. It was my first time trying a clarified cocktail and it was really unique. I thought there would be more ice cream honestly but I still loved it. The kombucha though was shockingly tasty. I loved it so much that I bought a bottle online once I got home (they're from Kettl, a local distillery in Brooklyn). The venue is really spacious and I actually planned a wedding here in the past. They host a lot of events and there was even a birthday party happening when I ate there. The only downside is the location. The only train that goes there is the G so it's a bit hard to get to. Food: Hot Honey Gem Salad (radish, buckwheat, fennel, yuzu vinaigrette) 9/10 Hottokeki / Japanese Soufflé Pancake (fluffy hotcake, honey maple butter, sesame) 9/10 Add Mini White Sesame Soft Serve (soy milk, sesame oil) 10/10 - I would recommend just getting this on its own instead of the Hottokeki if you're craving just a little dessert. Drinks: Lebowski-San (green tea shochu, pisco, sakura leaf, clarified matcha ice cream, cold brew coffee floater) 9/10 - This is a clarified cocktail which I didn't expect. I thought I was ordering a matcha ice cream-like drink so although the drink was good, all the ingredients are very subtle in flavor. Kettl x Unified Ferments 'Hojicha' Kombucha (jou yanagi hojicha) 10/10 - This is an absolute must-try!

Last I was here was for brunch and we sat in the outdoor patio area. We got a two things to share and a main each. Shared plates were the soufflé pancake and silken tofu. Both were a miss for me. The pancake had a baking soda aftertaste and also they brought it out right away instead of after we finished our mains so it sat around in the table for a while until we were ready to eat it. Silken tofu had a mediocre flavor palette. There was no variation in texture either, just one plate of mushy items. We didn't finish either one of those. For a main, I ordered a a Wagyu beef bowl. It was really good but on the smaller side. The service was attentive aside from a spillage when the order came. Then they started placing plates on top of the spill instead of wiping the table. Eventually they cleaned it but overall there was lack of training in this case. I am not dying to come back here but would consider if I'm in the area again. I really like the actual space but food/service can improve.

Greyz Bistro - Korean BBQ Burger with Kimchi

I enjoyed a "Cousins" get together yesterday at Greyz Bistro. The entire experience was so…read moresatisfying. Greyz is a small restaurant so you should make a reservation. The chef has created a fusion of foods and flavors that was extremely pleasing to my palate. When we were there the restaurant was almost full so we came with our patience and it was worth it. The server, unfortunately we never got his name, was very attentive, friendly with a slick sense of humor and all of his effort was greatly appreciated. Although we ordered separately, we treated the experience like a family style meal, tasting almost everything on the table. Known for the oxtail ravioli, you'll do yourself a disservice if you don't try it! They are so deliciously flavorful! I cleaned that plate! The shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta was buttery and smooth and the shrimp were huge. I didn't taste the mac and cheese, due to allergies, but my cousins loved it. The fried rice was very flavorful and the fried rice with oxtail pieces was beyond comparison. One cousin had the whole snapper which she enjoyed. This came with callaloo (very tasty) and plantains that were perfectly sweet and impeccably cooked without a trace of oil being used. Another cousin had the whole jerk hen that she enjoyed. It was served with bok choy and a plantain pancake underneath. The bok choy made my mouth happy! The only thing that missed the mark, in comparison, was the honey barbecue wings. They were average and did not compare to the excellence applied to the creation of the rest of the dishes. For dessert, we had the molten lava cake, with 4 spoons and it was light yet quite flavorful, especially with the rum-craisin ice cream in the dish. Finally, don't sleep on the 'Sidecar' drink, which was delicious and strong. Greyz is a little pricey and the prices honor the experience and skill of Chef Cheese. He has done the "damn thing" with these dishes! We're DEFINITELY going back! We have 2 more cousins to introduce Greyz to!

That along with the ramp made it perfect for me to bring two kids with a stroller. The host/waitress/bartender greeted us with a smile and quickly seated us. We ordered the escovitch fish, lemon drop, rum punch and spring rolls. Everything came out steaming hot and took 20-30 minutes after the drinks. Another party showed up, but even though the space is small (you can see the other end of the room from one end), there are large windows with natural lighting, & white bright walls; you don't really notice the other guests. Millennial r&b music playing but I was able to talk without yelling. The cassava fries were a little salty, but the escovitch fish & lemon drop were great. Overall, enjoyed the food, but the waitress greeting the kids made the experience great.
