Fishpop Spicy Butter Fish & Chips
Katie H.

We had family in town and have been wanting to try Fish pop since we have been following them on IG for awhile. The vibe in the restaurant is great very open, big bar, beer wall. However I will say the ordering system from your phone is awful. They need to invest in a better more organized set up. They have all the Restaurants clumped into one giant list. It was so confusing and it took forever to even find the alcohol drinks. We ended up just going up to the bar. When it got to checking out our cards were all declining and we clearly had money it was a system glitch. It took us a good 25 min to get our food ordered. I also think it would be a great idea for someone to greet you when you walk in and explain the ordering process not just point to the QR codes. We enjoyed the spicy fish and chips and the tartar sauce was so good! I didn't take a picture of it but we got a soul food plate it was fried chicken wings, candied yams, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. It was great and my 11 month old tore that plate up! Haha Fix the system and I think you have a great concept.

Spicy fish and chips - fantastic, only slightly spicy but not weak. The tartar sauce was incredible, and my favorite so far. Fries were alright, nothing special but not bad. BBQ pulled pork nachos - wow. The waffle fries were heavily seasoned in the best way, and I couldn't be happier. This was enough to feed two, and even the leftovers were tasty. Highly recommend, and you get to choose the meat as well (I went with pulled pork). They give you quite a bit of meat too. Margs - nothing special but not bad. Can't beat $3 though. Our bartender was so sweet, and she helped us pick some food and navigate the restaurant. You sit anywhere you'd like, scan the QR code, and order from a culmination of multiple restaurants, like a food court. They have a bar, and also a tap wall where you can fill your own beer! I'll be back to try that out. They have empanadas, soul food, bbq, fish, sushi, and probably some more that I'm forgetting, so check it out if you ever have split cravings!

Tempe Eats is a good concept in theory. It's a food hall, but not. You order from a kiosk and workers are labored with the task of bringing your food. They have to discern between orders and try to give you a run down of your food should you ask. Kinda sucks actually. You should leave them a tip. Some of the things we ordered were good and some were not. I felt like everything was reasonably priced. The Eats gives you plenty of variety to choose from. You can also enjoy an alcoholic beverage while you wait. If you're dining with a bunch of people, this may be your spot.

Kind of a cool concept here. The place is really clean and it's progressive. The service was a little strange because of the concept but good. The food was really good. Really was some of the best fish and chips I've had. The fries were amazing, the thing is though, this is like a little food court without the mall and the food we got came from one of the, I think, 6 restaurants? Maybe only 5. But that's the deal, it's a building with a bar, a hostess, and lots of seating but you have several places to choose from. Check it out when you're with several people that all want something different.

Little confused about the low ratings, but here's my experience--- Tempe Eats has a cool concept imo-- there a bunch of different places to eat in one area ( think of an upgraded food court ) and the facility it self sells alcohol, has tv's for games. They have all these taps for beer, I haven't had a chance to check that out yet. Each time I have eaten there I was warmly greeted, and the staff at TE explains how everything works. They also check on you and help if you need assistance. This works out great if someone in your group doesn't eat a certain type of food and you can get some beers or whatever to drink. Chix and Fish pop ( restaurants at TE ) are worth the drive alone. Looking forward to going back soon.

Chickpop was way better than fishpop and LOOK at the size of that chicken!!

We came here on a Monday night at 7:03. After ordering our food I started to wonder if it was a mistake coming here. Four others before us seemed to have been waiting forever on food or their food orders were wrong. One of the employees I heard her say "Sorry it's a case of the Monday." I personally don't think that's a valid excuse for anything. We ordered from Fishpop the original fish and chips and then the maple truffle sando from chickpop. We got out fish pop at 7:30 and our chickpop at 7:35pm I love the concept and the place was cute but definitely needs some changes.

Interesting concept but we were a little confused. It's a food hall with a couple different restaurants, but also had waiters/waitresses. Staff were friendly though! We came here to try the Fishpop popup which is here from 6/1-6/30. Saw people lined up at the window so I got in line there as well. We got there at a good time because the line got even longer afterwards. They have original flavor or spicy flavor fried fish for $22 each. I ordered 2 spicy. Comes with fries, peas, and a dill tartar sauce. Payments accepted at this window are cash, Zelle or Venmo. If ordering from the front register, you can use card. My friend ordered 2 pastas from the Creole Bowls place. I also ordered a whiskey mule. The fried fish was golden and crispy. Perfectly fried. The piece I ate wasn't spicy or salty but my friends said theirs was salty. Fries and peas were good. I really liked the sauce! Can't remember the name of the pasta but it was some seafood buttery pasta. I had a few bites of it but I prefer red sauce so to me, it was okay. Not bad. There's plenty of seating inside and they also have a wall of beer on tap too. Would be nice if there were more food options to choose from in there though

I'm going to do two reviews; one is for the overall hall & bar and the second will be for the pop-up restaurant that brought us here in the beginning. So we had no idea this place existed until we saw a story on the news about the Fishpop pop-up currently housed here. Located in a larger building at the corner of Mill and Baseline, the concept includes a few different restaurants and a pretty good-sized bar concept. There appears to be a few standard restaurants here including Yogi's Grill, which we were familiar with from the malls. Also there was a Cajun place (Cajan Breakfast Joint), Fork Off, Seafood Boil, and Creole Bowls to Go. The birria tacos at Fork Off looked delicious and we will be back to try those for sure. The bar was well stocked with a dedicated bar tender taking and making orders. The overall space was clean and well-kept and there were two women who were helping to keep things up as well as assist customers as needed. They offer events like brunches with music, happy hours, family events, etc. And it appears that you can also rent the venue for your own parties. Creative idea for sure!

First time at Tempe Eats and the vibes and drinks are immaculate. Michael, the bartender went above and beyond to recreate me a Pimms cup even though they didn't have Pimms. Jungkook is on the stereo, the drinks are refreshing, there are various pop up food options, and the staff are fun.

3.8. Cute food hall. Small and not very busy when we went. Meat/seafood were fresh, delicious flavor and cooked properly; Spicy chicken sandwich and fish and chips. Fries were a bit overdone and the tartar sauce was a little off, for my taste. Not very emulsified. I like when food halls serve food on regular plates when you're dining in as well. The to go baskets were fine but, the quality of the food should be plated purdy for dine in, imo. Nice service as well

3 chicken wings, fries and a cornbread

Food from "Freestyllez" was very tasty. No problem ordering and came pretty quick. Atmosphere is great for a couple or single person. The music was not too loud. We had a conversation over here and could hear each other talk. Lol

So delicious and an experience in itself!! We enjoyed some light bites as well - the Edamame Hummus and Shishito Peppers. Both were fantastic! I love that their menu points out which items are gluten-free... and our server even warned me that the plantain chips in the Edamame Hummus could have cross-contamination... so I very much appreciate that heads up! I love the giant disco balls and the aesthetic of this place. We started with the appletini and lemongrass highball (non-alcoholic). My friend and I ended up switching drinks because we liked each other's more than our own. For the second round, we ordered the brandy spritz and primrose martini. We weren't fans of the brandy spritz, although my friend grew into it. The primrose martini was quite good, I liked it better than the appletini. For snackies, we ordered the glizzy gaunlet, which was basically a tower of carbs. It came with 5 mini dogs with milk bread, and potato wedges. There were 3 sauces, my favorite in order were the: truffle dijonnaise, kosho aioli, and korean ketchup. We enjoyed this more than the food at Filthy Animal. Although it was pricey ($22) for just carbs and hardly any protein. The milk bread was delicious and the mini dogs were pretty good too. The potato wedges were cooked perfectly, slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Would I return? Probably not. The food was better than the drinks but it wasn't outstanding.

The most recent was…read moreon a Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. This speakeasy is located on Mill Ave., the center of Tempe's party scene. Because of its location, parking isn't easy. If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

The oysters are a must, the steak is cooked perfectly, and everything is plated so thoughtfully it really feels like a full experience, not just a meal. The dinner staff has also always been attentive, friendly, and on point. That said, I recently came in for brunch and had a very different experience. I'm a huge pancake person, so I was excited to try the strawberry pancakes, but they were honestly disappointing. They were soggy, lacked any fluff, and had more of a cornbread texture than a pancake. The strawberry topping also wasn't very appetizing--it seemed like it was meant to be more of a sauce, but it didn't quite work. I completely understand that higher-end restaurants like to get creative with their dishes, but I think some basics like pancakes should still be done really well. I'll definitely be back for dinner, but I'd probably skip brunch next time.

Super attentive, knew the menu, made great recommendations, and never overdid it. It just felt natural and easy the whole time.
