Awww my childhood Target. This store is just about as good as any other location, with the caveat that there's an In N Out a short stroll across the parking lot, which means I can make an afternoon out of it. :-) The big downer for this store is that they used to have a beautiful Garden Center that they got rid of a few years ago, which is a shame. I used to love browsing Christmas trees and spring flowers here, but it seems like Target has gotten rid of all their outdoor Garden Centers. True to form, I can't visit this place even once without picking up at least 3 things I didn't plan on buying. The new-ish self-checkout counters make this even easier. This target will always be the worst with their racial bias. I use to think it was just the customers there but today I got to see it is the employees too. I'm at the self checkout buying one thing and it was a big item so it wasn't like I was trying to steal anything else or sneak other items into my bag. As I'm done and walking toward the exit, the employee makes no attempt to pretend she's not mugging me or leaning in to look at my bag as I walk past her. Yet I didn't see her do this to any of the "walnut creek" types of customers that fit the profile of living in the area. One of the WORST RUN Targets I have ever been in. The shelves are almost always empty and the store employees are unresponsive. I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but the employees at the Walmart nearby and the store there are light years better places. What happened to this Target? The bathroom is filthy. Aisles are in disarray, and the fitting room overrun with clothes stacked waiting to be put away. I mentioned to the cashier that I don't remember this Target being so chaotic, he replied that it's been like this for awhile. I won't be returning, it's too stressful. read more

I actually don't mind and understand why items are locked. What I do mind is the attitude of the employees. Like we need to worship them like God to get a bottle of vitamins. I was so turned off the third time I was there, I just got the bottle and left it on a different shelf. Also not the store's fault really, but be ware of drivers going the wrong way in parking lot. As far as target goes this store is pretty decent. My biggest complaint probably is regional- not just this individual store- but the bags are garbage. Both bags tore at the handle. I don't come here often. But I was in the store last night with a friend. After food shopping, etc, we got in line at register 11. A kid named Dylan was working it. There was a woman in front of us who apologized for taking so long. We just assumed she meant that she had a payment issue or something and we just said that's ok, don't worry about it. But we soon found out it was nothing to do with the woman. It was Dylan. My friend went first because she had all the groceries. He took at least a half hour to check her out. No exaggeration. Meanwhile, the store had very low air flow and we were sweating like we just ran a marathon. When I finally got to the register myself, he scanned all my items and the total came to about 70 bucks. For some reason, the register kept telling him I bought a gift card that wasn't scanned properly. I didn't buy a gift card. After standing there for a full 5 minutes, pressing buttons and going nowhere, he tells me he's just going to have to re scan everything. Since it took him 15 minutes to scan it the first time, and since I could barely breath from the lack of air flow in the store along with my mask, I just said nope and walked out the door. I was PISSED. I left with nothing. And I had quite a few things in the sale that I was very much looking forward to. My daughter and I were shopping at this location around 7:00 tonight. She needed a specific body wash that is always sold out. Well tonight they had it but someone had spilled another bottle all over the shelf and other bottles. We called the girl who unlocks the products and asked her if she had anything to clean the bottle with... her response was "well there's paper towels around here someplace. I'll be right back." Well needless to say she never came back. We saw she was opening cases for other customers and when she was done my daughter said "excuse me" in a nice tone and the girl totally ignored us and turned and walked the other way! We really felt so disrespected and went away with nothing. Really bad customer service and I'm sure she never cleaned the shelf either! read more

I love this Target more than any other ones in the Bay Area period. Not that I don't go to the other ones, Target is Target whether you're in WC, San Ramon even San Jose or Sacramento or as far as Virginia. This one is small yet it has most of what I need. It's a simple in and out for the most part even if sometimes parking can be problematic. It has a little bit of everything even meat and fruits. And when things are on sale/clearance, it beats any other stores on the planet. The Target app is also fun especially if you combine with other apps like Ibotta and coupons, click, click and items can be dirt cheap. Plus if you have the stores red card it's even more savings of 5%. I also love the Target gift cards they give out by purchasing certain items. The gift card can be used for the next purchase. So what I do is I split my transaction so I can use the card right away and I don't forget or lose it. I always find my son's clothes and toys here from Pokémon cards, Minecraft, Star Wars Legos and books. Of course the child's taste changes frequently and this store never fails. We attend a lot of kids parties and you guessed it, Target always saves my tushy for the last minute needs. I find it always organized and staff friendly when approached. I also frequent the Starbucks here when I shop. The quality of the product is comparable if not superior compared to other stores. Trust me and try all the pointers above and you'll get to love Target too. Oh and your chipped credit/debit cards are safe here. I never had any problems with unwanted transactions on my card. I took off one star because of limited choices on some items. And appliances small or big can be priced high. Plus my son noticed last night that the light on the letter E from the TARGET sign outside was barely lit and flickering. I wouldn't noticed that but the child saw it right away as soon as I parked the car. Entertainment value and a conversation starter with your little ones. Target all the way!!!!! I placed an order for pickup, it was the last one in stock around where I live which was 30 mins away. I was early and the order wasn't ready. I asked the girl behind the counter if she can check and see how much longer since it should be ready within 2 hours and it's almost time. She said she doesn't know because it goes in the order received and even though it says 2 hours most of the time it's after. I explained to her that I live 30 mins away so if i don't pick it up while I am here I will need to cancel it. Instead of the common courtesy to go to the back and ask, she said "if I need to cancel it will be very easy or I can take a look at the aisle and purchase at checkout". Well, I also explained it to her that it's the last one. So basically, NO HELP. I walked around to look for it and it wasn't there so my bet is someone has already brought it to the back for my pickup. I'm not going to walk around for an hour not knowing when it will be ready, so I canceled the order and left. Waste of my 30 mins and gas. When Target closed all their garden centers I did not come to their stores very often. A sale tempted me to came back to pick up a few things that were really discounted. This location seems to be well stocked and well organized. The check out was quick on a weekday. Parking, despite the large lot, can be difficult. I wondered where all the people who belonged to the cars were, the store was empty. No doubt I will come back, even though they don't have the great end of the season garden sales. read more

I have a theory of truth in regards to retail establishments, particularly general merchandies and department stores. At times it can be transposed into other applications, so it can be true elsewhere. It is one of many Wanugeeisms: Quality/price of merchandise is inversely proportional to the average customer's BMI (body-mass index). Thus, the higher the average customer's BMI, the lower the merchandise quality and/or price. You can test this yourself anecdotally. Test 1: Go to any Wal-Mart. Scan the customers and make your own judgement on the average customer. Are they thin, overweight, in good proportion? If we weighed each shopper and measured their height, I think you will find that the average BMI is in the overweight or perhaps even into the obese category. Now check the average prices and quality of merchandise. Is it high quality/price, mid-priced, or "Always" the lowest as they advertise? Take notes for the Wanugeeism test on this TBA. Test 2: Go to Macy's. Follow test 1 procedures. Of course, this Wanugeeism has a caveat: The Quality to BMI ratio is dependant on local variations to a degree. For instance, for Macy's in downtown San Francisco, you have to use the Women's store, If you use the SF downtown Men's store, results may be skewed by too many buff gay men doing more cruising than shopping. Target, at least this Target in Pleasant Hill, fits in between the two tests above. I would say on a scale, it is more on the Wal-Mart part of the Q/BMI spectrum. And there is a second caveat to this theorem: Time of day does influence your anecdotal evidence. Middle of the day will result in a higher Q/BMI than the evenings, generally speaking. More testing has to be done to determine and understand the dynamics of why this is so. Of course, all Wanugeeisms are not scientific studies. There is no double blind controlled studies. No placebos are used for the control group. You just have to have faith in Wanugeeisms as wisdom accumulated from many long years of observing empirical evidence. Department stores didn't die, they're now found at Target. (NOTE: For the rest of this review, the store's name will be spelled phonetically, the way many of us love to pronounce it: Tarjay.) At first, Tarjay was a discount mass merchandiser. Then Walmart came along and beat their prices continually. So Tarjay apparently gave up on that marketing and pricing strategy, and became a somewhat stylish place where you can find everything you need under one roof at regular retail prices. Which is to say that yesterday's Sears shoppers are now Tarjay shoppers. My family are all Walmart regulars, but sometimes find ourselves here. (I find myself in the Walnut Creek and San Ramon stores too, so this review counts for them.) It has an okey-dokey selection of many items: womens and childrens clothing, baby things, pharmacy, health food (snacks!), greeting cards, and now groceries. Most of the basic departments are covered, but for more than the basics in any dept, you'd need to go to a different store. I've rarely found good clothes for me at Tarjay, snacks are overpriced, and the best electronic buys are still at Fry's. When we've needed customer service, it's been good. Staff is helpful, always close by, and you can spot them by their red shirts. (Tarjay's executives must be Stanfurd grads.) No problems if you need to return things. HUGE red flag: you can scan your card before they check out, and the transaction is approved immediately. Cashiers don't ask for ID. Very convenient, and saves time. And also very easy to use a stolen credit card. I've heard stories of people whose cards were compromised, and they found Tarjay charges on their statements. It also happened to me; how did my card end up at the Tarjay in Citrus Heights when I never go there and I always had that card in my possession??? If I had my druthers, I wouldn't go to Tarjay, but being a husband, I rarely have my druthers. And sometimes it's more convenient to go here than other places, and this Tarjay also has an In-n-Out within walking distance. Oh well, life goes on . . . read more

I was in line at electronics and just wanted to buy gift wrap and tape because it was close by the area so it would be quick and easy. NOPE. Never was acknowledged by the worker there at all even though I was standing in line. The guy who was working the dept. from 9:30pm-10pm let an old guy cut ahead of me who wanted a speaker out of the boxed area. He grabs it for him and the old guy told him to take my items first because I was ahead of him in line. He told the old guy it's fine and rings him up and let him cut ahead of me like wtf? Then these guys other guys who were getting airpods that were behind me just fucking went up and cut me too. At this time there were 3 other workers so I'm like wtf man. Do you guys not see me in fucking line? I had to go up to the workers there and state that I am being cut off in like like wtf. Never happened to me at this Target before. It was hella unorganized. Went around 3ish on a Thursday so it wasn't crowded, so plenty of staffs around to help out. Staffs were friendly and was easy to approach. There was a beauty concierge named Jentra, she was really nice and she took some time explaining about the products and making suggestion. She's usually there everyday expect tues & wed, if u need beauty tips or help picking out beauty item you should go to her (she even give out some samples). Anyway like other Target store it has a large parking place and is next to Ross, Toy R'Us and In-N-Out Burger. I've always been a fan of Target even when they weren't so modern as they are now. This particular location is quite busy but they seem to have a grasp on keeping things I need in stock and arranging it as such that makes sense to the common consumer. This was my home Target and may be my home Target again so I don't have the luxury of frequenting as much as I would like. The staff seem much more accommodating than before, maybe they've been trained Customer Service on a deeper level. I always seem to get a friendly smile and hello by at least one of them when I pass by. I also appreciate how clean this store is as well. Not happy with the service here at all, lines are crazy long, barely one or two people working. Drive up service is a mess and I keep seeing new workers at guest service who don't know what to do. He directed me to customer service where Jessica checked her inventory and it says they have 5 I stock. She let me know she will let me know which aisle they are located. I then informed her I was sent here since there was none there. She then said "we must be out" but I thought there were 5 in stock not there is none? She told me to go to another location since they "might" have some. So if your 5 is no where to be found and or u don't want to try and find it u want me to drive to another location to possibly have the same problem over there. April 23, 2018 around 6:30pm. It's unfortunate when a customer regularly visits an establishment and has 2 negative experiences eclipse all the positive. Those two experiences happened with the SAME employee who happens to be a manager. First negative encounter: I was standing in the self checkout line waiting for the next register to open up. I finally saw an available register but apparently I didn't move fast enough for James so he snapped his fingers AT ME and pointed to the SAME register I had my eyes on. I will say that this day was particularly busy and most lanes were filled with lines. I understand the frustration employees get when customers are nagging them to open new lines. But what I find unacceptable is a manager parading around the store snapping his fingers at customers as a means to direct them places. 1) I do not work for you, so please do not demand that I go places in such a rude fashion. 2) I doubt he treats his employees any better than he treated me that night. This is not professional management behavior. 3) Treat people (doesn't matter if they're coworkers or customers) with respect and decency. Second negative encounter (months later) - April 23, 2018 @ 6:30 pm: I walked straight to the customer service counter to exchange cookware. I dealt with a very friendly young lady. Told me she will hold the cookware I want to exchange while I look for its replacement. Told me I can come straight up to the counter as soon as I did so. About 30 minutes later I came back with the cookware I wanted. Went straight to the counter to be tending to my FAVORITE person in the whole entire Target-Universe. (I'm being heavily sarcastic). Apparently the nice young lady I worked with prior went on her break. Before I could get a word in, James rolled his eyes and put up his hands to say, "for future reference, you need to stand in the other line." I looked around and there was no one else in line...needless to say, he was going to tend to me regardless if I stood in one line or the other. His demeanor the rest of the time was belittling, rude, unprofessional and uncalled for. He began to explain the stores exchange policy but with a tone of annoyance. As soon as I asked what position he hold, he tried to recover from my unpleasant visit but still came up short with one last eye roll. James, I've been in retail and understand that the demands of customers are simply exhausting and most of the time absurd but I do think you hold a title that demands more finesse and professionalism. It's unfortunate that you deal with customers in the way that you do and I personally don't think you have the qualities of a leader to be in such a position. Both of my experiences with you are enough to have corporate involved. You either need to be retrained or stripped of your title and demoted into a position that'll allow you to learn how to deal with customers. read more

I only go here because it is conveniently located by my work. However...the parking sucks, getting in and out of the parking lot takes forever, and honestly, this place is always always crowded. The starbucks service is pretty slow so do yourself a favor and go to an actual starbucks location. The employees there are nice-the ones I interacted with were knowledgeable and friendly.Their selection in each department from frozen foods, to toys, to clothes and electronics seem decent. There is nothing spectacular that stands out about this location, it is clean and appears to be new, so if looks matter to you, you'll like this place. This was an interesting location. The restroom was positioned within the clothing departments. Employees were friendly, and I found the drinks I wanted. They were not only on sale, but on Cartwheel, as well, so I got discounts on discounts. The store layout was a little confusing. It felt as though they took over another store, which could be the case since they bought a chain in California years ago. Checkout was not smooth but it wasn't awful. My bf and I love this place. He says we have to drive out here because it's so worth it! Haha. I think it's a pretty good target too! This place does have everything relatively cheap compared to other targets. We really like the great selection of clearance. My bf got a target bath rug for 8 dollars and here it was on clearance for 4 dollars!! Beware, they do charge for bags here! I would say this target is a bit on the smaller side, and things are more compacted but when it comes to room accessories, there's plenty of options!! Great parking lot and location. I'm a loyal target shopper. I need toilet paper, first thing I think of is Target. (even though I can probably get a gazillion rolls at Costco for way cheaper) I need shampoo, cosmetics, cotton balls, t-shirts, jeans, household cleaning supplies, furniture (yes, it takes a while to assemble, but their instructions are better than IKEA's) I go here. I go in, get my stuff and go. I have not had a bad experience at all. My sis got a really good deal on her Kodak easyshare 8.1 megapix camera, only ($89) and dad's Tomtom GPS (only $149). The great part about this is, we didn't have to be in line at freakin 4 am freezing our butts off in the cold! woo-hoo! So, kudos most especially to the target staff on "Black Friday", the craziest shopping day of the year, I stood in line for only 5 minutes??? it wasn't long, as ALL of their cashier lanes were open for business.
