Positive first : lovely counter person. The prices are very inflated. I ordered a kale salad $16 and a side of chicken schnitzel $6.50. with tax and tip this was a $30 lunch. I opened the box and it was half empty. it looked like a side salad. The flavor is good but the portion is laughable. I'm disappointed with what this restaurant is serving and it's a shame because the food is good.

Hummus bowl with Falafel - A metal tray contains a bowl of hummus garnished with falafel, chickpeas, and spices, with a fork inserted into the bowl. Next to the bowl are three pieces of pita bread, partially wrapped in paper, and a crumpled napkin. The tray is placed on a light-colored wooden table, and the background includes part of a black object, possibly a phone or a speaker.

The establishment is clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and very fast with expediting your order. I ordered the Hummus bowl with falafel and it was delicious! Tasty and fresh and the pita was warm and chewy. My main issue is the whole thing, plus a bottle of water came to about $21. On the menu it says $8, but with the falafel it's $12, so WTF? I'd hate to be one of the many students in this area looking for affordable eats.

a woman holding a glass of green juice - A person with red-painted nails holds a large clear plastic cup filled with a green juice and a white straw. The background shows a cafe interior with white tables, black chairs, and large windows reflecting a tree with blue string lights outside. The cafe has a modern decor with bright lighting and a clean, minimalistic design.

So glad to have Taboonette on Montague Street! I'd actually never been before but heard about it from their location in the city. We love fast casual Mediterranean spots, and Montague Street needed this addition. The staff was so friendly inside. I really loved the service here - they were patient and helpful. It really seemed like they cared about my experience. I ordered the chicken schnitzel pita sandwich, the lamb, kofta rice pan, and the falafel hummus bowl. Everything was delicious - definitely get some of the green spicy sauce. We also got aïoli on the side, $2 but worth it. For the falafel hummus bowl, we got half regular falafel and half sweet potato falafel. Both tasty, but next time I'll definitely get the sweet potato falafel again. I also tried their Calamansi beverage which was delicious, love when they have fresh juices available. Will definitely be making this our regular spot to order from. Welcome to Brooklyn Heights!

Chicken Shawarma Pan - A tray holds a large bowl of chicken shawarma served over yellow rice, with dollops of hummus on top. Next to the bowl, there is a small container of pickled cucumbers and olives. The tray is lined with paper printed with small food icons and the restaurant's name, and includes a black straw and a small cup of sauce or dressing.

Taboonette, Taboo-YES to big portions of hearty Mediterranean food in a nice, new space! The food here was excellent - we had the chicken shawarma in a pan (rather than in a pita) and it was delicious. Packed with flavor, and the pan had enough food for two (but I still tried my best to eat all of it). Really excited to have a fast casual option in this part of Brooklyn that isn't a chipotle! The quality and portions here definitely make this new Taboonette location worth a visit.

Fried eggplant - A metal tray contains a bowl of yellow rice topped with falafel, a white sauce, and greens. Next to it, a clear plastic container holds grilled meat pieces with a caramelized exterior. The tray is lined with branded paper from a Mediterranean restaurant.

Glad to have a new quick/healthy dining option in the neighborhood! I stopped by last night for dinner and shared the following: * Hummus bowl with za'atar crusted salmon - This was a fairly large bowl of hummus! It was very smooth, and topped with a sprinkling of chickpeas as well as my chunk of salmon which was heavily seasoned on top. I would suggest getting 2 toppings for the hummus and adding an extra pita (only comes w/ 1 piece, quartered). Taste was okay, but this turned out to be more of a side than a full on meal since it was one-dimensional. * Sweet potato falafel pan with yellow vermicelli rice - The winner of the night! I didn't try the falafel, but heard the sweet potato flavor wasn't obvious. The salad had a lovely and light tart dressing, and the rice was moist and flavorful. The variety of colors/textures definitely had me a little jealous as I was eating my hummus bowl! * Side of fried eggplant - I wasn't sure what to expect but this came out very oily, I would not order a side of bland mush again. Overall, I'm glad the option is here, but the prices felt steep for the quality of food and service (menu prices were about $3 higher than posted on the website, but it's likely out of date and for the Manhattan location, online order prices were closer but didn't list everything I saw in person in Brooklyn). I wouldn't order the same items again, but will be back to try some other items on the menu. The interior was bright and clean, but surprisingly loud once you get a couple groups in there. I was hoping to find my new go-to quick lunch/dinner spot but I'm still searching!

Israeli Salad (Chopped) and Chicken Shawarma - A large, round, disposable takeout container holds a salad consisting of chopped cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and shredded purple cabbage. The salad is placed on a wooden table. Surrounding the main container are three small side containers, one with a clear liquid dressing, another with a yellowish dressing, and a third with a transparent lid. The image captures a meal likely from a casual dining or takeout setting.

I had enjoyed a Manhattan location, but here I ordered take out. I had the Israeli salad and a side of the shawarma chicken. The meal came with a tahini sauce (really the best part by far). The salad seemed fresh but the chicken was soaking in oil -- It had so much oil that the salad didn't need the dressing though alone, the salad was quite bland. The person behind the counter was friendly and before I tipped, this tiny take-out lunch was $24.50. Very mid.

Braised Lamb Shawarma and Amba Sauce Hummus Bowl - A metal tray holds a bowl of braised lamb shawarma topped with amba sauce and garnishes, alongside pita bread. The tray is placed on a light-colored table, with a person wearing a white textured sweater visible in the background. The dish is part of a Mediterranean-style meal served at a casual dining establishment.

I was actually super excited about this addition to the restaurant line-up on Montague Street, and the previous reviews seemed promising. Unfortunately my experience was rather poor. I ordered a hummus bowl with braised lamb. The lamb was a mi of dry, unseasoned meat combined with a large quantity of gelatinous fat. Similarly, the salmon my friend ordered was also under-seasoned, albeit a bit more passable than the lamb. The hummus was creamy but bland under the dusting of paprika, and the "toppings" are so few, they hardly pass as garnish. The pita is nondescript. Considering that they charge close to $20 for such a bowl, I would expect higher quality meat and more generous toppings. Cava down the road is a much better Mediterranean option considering quality & value for money.

That's what I took off my plate I can't eat that despite of this very small amount of meat - The image shows a metal tray with leftover cooked meat, possibly from a Mediterranean dish, on a paper placemat branded with Taboonette. Three small plastic containers of sauces are placed on the tray: one with green sauce, and two with brownish sauces. A black-handled knife rests on the tray, and part of a metal plate with some remaining food is visible on the left side. The setting appears to be a casual dining environment.

Sat down thinking I'd do something light and ended up going all in. Ordered their Moroccan eggs with spicy tomato sauce and a side of their famous challah French toast. The eggs came out bubbling hot, perfectly spiced, with that slow-simmered depth that tastes like someone's been making it the same way for years. The bread they serve with it is dangerous... I kept telling myself "last bite" and then immediately going back in. But the French toast was the real moment. Crispy edges, soft inside, not overly eggy, and just the right amount of sweetness. I didn't even use syrup for half of it. Also grabbed a mint tea which felt like the perfect reset in between bites. Service was relaxed but attentive, and the whole place has this warm, slightly chaotic brunch energy that somehow works. Williamsburg has a million brunch spots, but this is one of the few that actually delivers on flavor and not just aesthetics. Definitely coming back... probably too often.

My husband LOVED the burek, but then they totally changed it and now it's just gone. The food is still delicious, but unpredictable of what we can / will order. The new space is beautiful and open and airy, but sadly the service has dipped. This place used to be almost too fast, we were in and out and we consistently knew we could come here and get out in a very timely manner. But now I literally had to flag down our waitress and I still didn't get her attention, another waitress came over to help us get our check. We also didn't get checked on at all, luckily our food was good and right. The table next to us didn't get greeted for water or anything so they had to flag down the guy delivering food to get a waitress. The pine nuts tasted good with this too! - Vegan fruit sundae (2/5) Sadly this was the only thing that missed the mark. I didn't like the raisins and the almonds didn't really work well with everything but that was just me. The sorbet was also pretty sour. There is also an outdoor dining area, as well as a mid-sized dining room and we were seated near the window. Sawa serves Lebanese cuisine with some more modern dishes. Additionally, they have a mostly Lebanese wine list, which gave us an opportunity to try some new wines. We ordered both a red and a white for the table, and I was especially drawn to the red, as the red was served chilled, light-bodied, and very enjoyable. Nearly all of the reds and whites on the menu are from Lebanon, with just one red from Morocco, plus a couple sparkling options from Lebanon as well. We started with several dips for the table: hummus, baba ghannouj, and muhammara. The hummus was incredibly smooth, and the muhammara was especially flavorful with large pieces of walnut throughout. Everyone at the table receives fresh pita, and we ended up ordering a few more to share. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the snap peas. The Brussels sprouts were rich and flavorful, but the snap peas really stood out. They were unlike anything I have tasted before, intensely mint, served with garlic mint labneh, and very delicious. For mains, we focused on lamb: two orders of the lamb ribs, two orders of the kafta, and two orders of the sfeeha. We probably over-ordered by about one entrée, but otherwise it was the right amount of food for six people. The lamb ribs were phenomenal, fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. The lamb pies were also very good and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The kafta was good, though not quite as memorable as the other lamb dishes, but still very satisfying. Service was attentive throughout the meal, and despite the number of dishes on the table, the staff handled everything smoothly. The table got a little crowded at times, but it was manageable. I would absolutely recommend Sawa, especially for anyone who enjoys trying something a little different. They do classic Lebanese dishes very well, while also offering some creative dishes that feel unique and memorable. I am already looking forward to going back.
