Wow. I was expecting great food. I was not expecting this place to completely change the course of my day. I came here after walking 20 minutes to a doctor's appointment that I found out was scheduled for the following week when I arrived at an empty office. Frustrated, I figured I would grab a nice lunch and remembered Pita Pan is on my way home. I heard about it from the Park Slope FB group where several people swore it is the best falafel around. I arrived and was slightly overwhelmed by the large menu. The owner, Aladdin (yes seriously that's his name - I know, amazing), quickly noticed and jumped in to guide me through the ordering process. He made me a lovely shawarma salad. I then noticed the stuffed grape leaves, so I asked for a side order, but I called them "dolmathes," which is the Greek word for them. After noticing I spoke Greek, he suggested I try the baklava, so I ordered that as well. I made a comment, "Just like grandma used to make!" and he then made me a bowl of lentil soup free of charge. When he handed it too me, he said, "Just like grandma used to make!" My grandma, indeed, did used to make some bangin lentil soup, and their lentil soup was indeed also bangin. Overall, I was blown away by the kindness and compassion shown to me in the exact moment I needed it. It's safe to say Aladdin turned my frown upside down. And every single thing I ate was DELICIOUS. Definitely one of the best stuffed grape leaves I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. The falafel is my favorite but there's lots other stuff here to try. Eating inside the restaurant is pleasant, but it's often a lonely experience. It seems most people get takeout. The pitas are portable so they're easy to carry with you. As for the platters, these are messier so they aren't good for eating on the go. The inside looks bright and clean so it's all right eating there. Another thing I like is that it's also a smoothie bar. It's $4.25 for the smallest, which is still a pretty big size. They can mix a lot of different fruits, and these are free of dairy too. As for the food I like falafel the best. It's $5.25 for the falafel pita. This is best with the creamy tahini sauce, which makes it a sloppy treat. Inside there's a window counter to sit at. It also has a few tables, but it never seems to be busy. I was told that Pita Pan is the best Mediterranean joint in Park Slope. And based on their messy, wildly flavorful lamb shwarma, I can't even argue. It's also pleasantly cheap, and a reliable delivery option when it's raining or (more likely) you are a lazy, disgusting animal of a human being. That said, their cheesesteak sandwich is NOT a good idea. "It may have been quixotic, but it was magnificent." And then we had The Falafel.... The Falafel WAS magical! "Clap if you believe". I believe Pita Pan has the best Falafel We had a wonderful time at Pita Pans. The food was good, the price was reasonable and the staff was magnificent. As J.M. First time ordering combination chicken, lamb rice! Not bad wish I had pita bread other than that great

Sadly the tipping point to get me to finally try this place after years and years of just walking by was that they were offering 20% off on Seamless. Oh how I wish I took the fact they were offering this steep discount as a sign. Why was I so cheap??? Cutting to the chase, I decided to try the lamb shawarma lunch special (take out) as a lot of Yelpers seemed to like the lamb and said the lunch specials were a good very good value. Ready within 10 minutes of ordering it seemed like we were off to a good start and I was off with a nice heavy bag of food. Then I opened the bag. Inside was the saddest rolled up pita which was dry and split in many pieces. Then came the "lamb" that was solid black and over cooked / burned to the point it just crumbled in my hands. While the attached image may seem like it is too dark, it actually captures exactly what the pile of black charred meat looked like in person. Despite drowning it in the sauce they included there was no saving it. As for the rest of the dish, the rice was rice and the salad (comes with salad or fries) was small. I've been on the hunt for actual lamb shawarma for quite a while. Most places have a mix of beef and lamb, or chicken. This place had it on the menu, so I decided to come check it out. The lamb "shawarma", which is described on the menu as "layers of marinated lamb", is the generic ground lamb mixed with flour and other fillers that every gyro shop and stand has in NYC, that's bought from a supplier. Definitely not layers of marinated lamb. I opted for the chicken shawarma. It was decent. Not sure what they put on the salad, but the salad combined with the hummus was a bit too watery and liquid-y for my taste.
