While I tend to sway towards Queens or Manhattan for all street encounters of the Halal kind, Halal Paradise gives me hope for Kings County. I found myself here for the quick meal on the go before hopping on the subway as well as several debaucherous evenings in Park Slope, to arrive at the following conclusions: * Their "no pork in my fork" slogan is absolutely genius. * Don't sleep on their salad. Most Halal street vendors won't care to throw in chickpeas, olives into the mix. I've learned to appreciate their contributions to the overall platter experience. * Being drunk is supremely helpful in wolfing all of this down. Like just about any edible in life, the food is average but goes up several notches when intoxicated. * While it's great the truck is situated next to the subway entrance, it's not a guarantee that it's always there. Such is the life of many food trucks / street carts, but this one can be AWOL often. * Chicken and lamb is preferable, but if one has to choose between the two, I think the lamb wins. It's not saying a whole lot though, as I think the food quality has gone down over the years. * I'm not sure what their situation is during the pandemic, but fingers crossed they keep it going. Compared to those, this is not the place for me. But even compared to the behemoths like Halal Guys, it still falls short. The combo at HP was just okay, not the best ever. Service was okay, but there was no drink with combo. I didn't really eat too much of it but the chicken was better than the bland Gyro. What a bargain for $6-7 range at this food truck. The combination plate came with chicken and lamb gyro, rice, salad and a tangy white sauce and spicy red harissa sauce. The flavor was incredible! Tuesdays are considered date night for my husband and me. We are by no means well off, so date night usually involves eating in and watching TV or a rented movie. Tonight, after looking for winter boots at the Atlantic Terminal Mall, we were getting really hungry. We ventured outside and started walking towards all of the restaurants on Atlantic. Instead of stopping into a sit down place, this huge truck caught my eye. For a mere $12, my husband and I enjoyed the lamb on rice platter and the combo plate off of this truck that isn't actually located at 450 Union St even though that's the address printed on the side of the truck. It's actually a huge, green truck parked in front of Attar Monir on 4th Ave near Atlantic Ave. You can get to this place just by coming out of the Atlantic Terminal. OH MY GOODNESS! The meat was perfectly spiced, grilled, and juicy. The yellow rice was fragrant and fresh, not dried out like some other carts. The cucumber, tomato, onion, green peppers, and lettuce for the salad were crisp and fresh. The yogurt dill sauce aka white sauce and the hot sauce were so flavorful and complimented the meat, rice, and veg so well. A $6 dinner fit for a king. The man making the food was very kind. I love halal. Probably the one thing I was more excited for about coming back to NY! This truck is near my friends place so we came here twice during our trip. SOOO good. So so good. Be careful on the red sauce though, it's hella spicy! Not as spicy as halal guys red sauce, but its still spicy! Haha. The lamb is tender and delicious but the bits that have a nice crust from the flattop are my faves. Flavorful white sauce too! I remember having a really good falafel sandwich from this truck. I wasn't even that hungry but I peeped the price and could not resist. The falafel was fresh and tasty, the pita was appropriate, and there was an overabundance of sauce that really defined the experience. Usually people criticize sandwiches for being soggy, but this one was fresh, dripping, and delicious. Drunken street meat is a staple of living in New York. It's been a favorite pasttimes of mine for years after many a night of potable-induced debauchery in Manhattan. So when I moved a few blocks away from the Atlantic Terminal a few months ago, I was psyched to see this truck parked outside the Pacific Street Subway exit (on 4th Avenue between Pacific St and Atlantic Ave, just right of the Church of the Redeemer). However, upon eating the food, it was disappointment after disappointment. First of all, this truck's hours seemingly run based on Murphy's Law. If you're starving at 3am on a Friday or Saturday night, he may or may not be here. Don't be fooled: the truck will physically be there, but the windows may be closed and the engine off. If you take a closer look, there are wooden boards underneath two of the wheels to balance the truck, and so far I have never seen it budge from this spot. Strangely enough, the door has a physical address on Union Street, but I don't believe anything's there. Anyway, onto the food - the falafel is not very good. Dry and flavorless. The lamb over rice isn't anything great, and the white sauce is very generic tasting. However, I must say that I couldn't finish my lamb over rice one night and had it the next day sober (gasp!) and loved it. What is it about microwaved street meat that makes it taste so good?! That's the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 2. Sure, it's convenient. And sure, your taste buds may be numbed from a night of high proof alcohol. But don't come here with high expectations and you won't be disappointed. read more

We may well have reached the point where Halal Street carts have officially become NYC's version of LA Taco carts. Most any cart will be pretty solid and some, like this distinguish themselves to be downright delicious and crave-able. Also, most crucially it is a completely egalitarian food accessible and beloved by large majority of the city of all classes and creeds. 6 dollars can buy a hobo a cop or a banker a hot, flavorfully delicious and filling lunch of protein and starch. Like many of the better operations this one is operated out of a truck, rather than a cart. I assume this can afford a fresher output due to the kitchen set up. As with a great many trucks and carts around the city, one should not get too excited by mouth-watering options such as kofta offered on the side of the truck. You'll be met with dejection, as far as I can tell the only available options available at any time are the standard, chicken, lamb, falafel or some combination thereof served over rice or on a thick pita bread. As is almost always the case with halal carts, I almost always go for the lamb, either over rice or in a gyro. This place distinguishes itself by the evident quality & freshness of its ingredients, particularly the oft neglected salad vegetables, and the deft preparation by the super professional and very friendly staff. Its location near the Barclays & Atlantic Center is key for anyone nearby shopping or waiting for a train or event and wants to fill up on the cheap. read more

Hands down the best halal meat around Atlantic avenue, and the competition is fierce. I live on the same block as this place, and it is a go to spot. Whenever my friend comes over he insists on getting "the meat." I really recommend the chicken tikka. Although it takes ten or so minutes to cook, the wait is certainly worth it. In a city of food trucks that cater to every taste, this meat truck is th exception. Forget about the taco trucks, the cupcake wagons, and the other predictable food carts, Halal Paradise is the jam. read more

Very different than Halal Guys. We were hungry and just happened to be right by the food truck. Unlike Halal Guys, they have more variety of toppings to choose from, and their red sauce isn't spicy. I actually prefer it spicy, but if you can't handle spice, then this is probably a good option for you. Portions are big and enough for 2 people to share. Overall, food tasted just decent. The vegetable mix you get with a rice plate is not my favorite, but that's only a preference thing. I don't like jalapeños and the whole spicy mix with my falafel. BUT, if you're a fan of soft inside and seriously crispy crust falafel? Go here! Next time I'm going to get just the rice, falafel and white sauce! Coming home on the D train during rush hour I was being smushed like a sardine and feeling a little claustrophobic, I decided to get off at Atlantic station and get a little air before going back to catch my connecting train. I was hungry and just planning on heading to my neighborhood chinese takeout joint in Bay Ridge. As I stood outside on Pacific getting some air and returning all the texts that came in now that I had service, I noticed a little halal cart called Halal Paradise. While I was standing there I saw many people coming to the cart and ordering food. A lot of them were regulars and the guy serving up the food was so sweet and friendly as he knew just what they liked. I decided to go on Yelp and check out the reviews of this cart and they were all pretty good. So I thought what the heck let me try this place out. I could grab some food, jump back on the train and be in Bay Ridge in a flash and could go straight home and eat. I ordered the lamb over rice and while I was waiting I noticed they were cooking chicken and it looked and smelled delicious. The kind man (wish I got his name) asked if I would like to try some with my order (no charge!) and I said sure! As he dished up my food he asked me about my day and was just so friendly. I grabbed a diet coke, my lamb (and chicken) over rice ran down into the subway, my train was there and I was home in a few minutes excited to try this delicious smelling food. Would it taste as good as it smelled? YESSSSS!!!!!! It was so yummy! The meat wasn't dried out, it was perfectly seasoned, the rice, aromatic and fluffy, not clumpy or dry. The white sauce and red sauce (spicy) were perfect!!! A very generous portion with a diet coke only set me back $5.00! I will definitely be back to Halal Paradise, maybe even tomorrow night! read more
