Drunken Noodles
Celeste M.

Cute little spot! Authentic Lao and Thai food. Flavorful and great portions! I like the street menu items and full menu options. Workers and service was really nice. We went exactly at 5 and like the reviews said there were plenty of people already coming in to pick up togo orders!

Shrimp spring rolls were huge with fresh greens and 3 shrimp each.

Being Lao, I was hesitant to try this place. I went in expecting the Lao food would be more traditional central Thai food. And thank goodness that was not the case. The Lai food was actually Lao food. Although sweeter than how I usually make my own, we ordered the papaya salad level 3 spicy which was not too spicy but had some heat. The last sausage was good and flavored well with just enough balance of lemongrass. The restaurant is bright and clean. It is small and has limited seating. The staff is very helpful, attentive and friendly. I recommend giving it a try and introducing yourself to Lao food.

Me and my mom ordered take out on a Saturday night--it was suuuuper packed!! Very small, intimate and cozy here for sure. Staff were all super nice though and made sure to let us know the real wait for food--their kitchen was absolutely slammed so it was over an hour. Looked promising though so we did end up getting take out. We kept it simple though with tofu skewers and egg rolls and they both were so tasty!! I got the tropical punch as well and it was soooo good!! Definitely want to come back to dine in

Mango sticky rice

Ok this is SO worth the hype and the drive (20 min for me). I got pad kee mao and mango sticky rice - my only regret is not dining in!! The pad kee mao with shrimp is SO good. I'm fairly picky with my Asian food too as someone who grew up on the coasts. The noodles were nice and flat and the sauce was delicious. I got 3 and it's supposed to be spicy, but I have a decent heat tolerance so I'd say it's more like a mild. The mango sticky rice is to die for and a must get. I thought I'd be able to split the noodles into two meals, but it was so good I kept eating them!!! I can't speak to the service but the staff were super friendly when I came in to pick up my order. It's rather small inside so I'm sure it helps to go off peak. But it's super cute. Like others have said, definitely follow them on social media to know when they're open and if they are still taking in orders. Please please support this lovely family owned restaurant!! They work so hard (as seen on social media) and really deserve all the praise!!

Actually wish I could give more stars. Service is excellent for not being full service. Food is amazing and flavorful and fresh. I'll be dreaming about the soup. Surely will be back. And soon. Thank you Sweet Basil.

Food is always great and consistent here. We went on a Saturday evening and they were packed. They sold out at 7 pm which was a little earlier than their closing time of 8pm so if you plan to go make sure you arrive early! There are only a few tables so they do a lot of take out orders. The service is always quick and they are very nice.

Crab Rangoon

Service is fast and very friendly. I looked online before visiting and it warns that orders may take awhile as they are made fresh. However, our food came out within 20 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised. The crab rangoons were some of the best I've had in the city. The three noodle dishes were all very good. We came to the conclusion that the Jeow Bong noodles were the best. The place is on the smaller side but still has a decent amount of seating. Cute atmosphere and decor. Also, all of their takeout boxes, cutlery, and cups are biodegradable and can be microwaved lol.

Sesame Chicken

Tried Sweet Basil as a friend recommended it to me, it did not disappoint! We called to order takeout - a friendly heads up, during busy hours it can take an hour + to have food ready, so need to be patient. The sesame chicken was my absolute favorite. The flavor was delicious and it was a big portion (had it over two meals). We also tried the Jeow Bong fried rice, lemongrass chicken, Rama Delight, and mango sticky rice. I was a big big fan of the flavor of the fried rice and lemongrass chicken; the Rama Delight was okay- a healthy option but was almost too plain for me personally. The mango sticky rice is a delightful end to my meal- definitely worth a try! The mango was so fresh and the sauce/rice combo went together perfectly. The dining area itself is smaller but very quaint, staff were all efficient and kind when I picked up my order! Would definitely recommend trying it out if you are in the mood for Thai/Lao food!

Crab Rangoon

I am so happy we decided to venture out of Milwaukee to try this place as we have been looking for good Thai since being a transplant. This is my type of restaurant as it's not all about the ambiance and frills but more so about amazing food and a family atmosphere. You walk in and up to the counter to order and they will be super helpful guiding you if it's your first time. Now the food was great and the spice levels I feel like are appropriate and aren't just hot but add flavor. I am so excited because both the crab Rangoon and Pad See ew I had were great and the Panang curry my fiancé had was great even reheated. Amazing restaurant with great service and they are super helpful.

Sweet basil was amazing. It was packed, which was a good sign off the back. The staff was extremely kind. The ambience was pretty chill, but the food was smacking. I got the Tom kha extra spicy with shrimp. it was perfect on a cold rainy day. Definitely hit the spot. 10/10 Then I got the pad kee mao. Big noodles delicious spicy beef. 9/10 And I took some Panang curry to go. 9/10

I don't mind sitting at the sushi bar since you can't make a reservation for one dinner and I was able to sit right away this time and last time, but it would be worth the wait. I took my time and enjoyed my meal. I will definitely be back every time I visit the city. The papaya salad is amazing, as well. The perfect blend of flavors. Decor is nice in the small space. It comes wrapped in an omelette - I've never seen that kind of presentation before, so at first I was a bit confused. Super yummy. The short rib was also flavorful and tender, but the flavors just weren't as strong in my opinion as the pad thai. Great service and the wet towel they give to you in the beginning is pretty neat. Would love to come again and try some more! I think it's street parking only pretty much.

It can get really loud in here so you may have to shout a bit at your dining party. I would definitely recommend having a reservation. I don't think there was an empty seat in the whole place the entire hour and a half that we were there. The entrees came out before we were finished with the appetizers and with how small the tables are it was an insanely tight fit and basically a juggling act, but that's minor. Drinks: We got the sake flight and I highly recommend this, it was delicious and a good variety of different flavor profiles, yum! Food: We ordered the xiao long bao and shu mei for appetizers. I preferred the shu mei and my partner preferred the xiao long bao. Which was nice that we each had an opposite preference. We also ordered the tonkatsu ramen and the mapo tofu. The tonkatsu ramen was a bit bland and it was interesting with the corn in it...however the chasu pork that topped it was delicious and plenty! The mapo tofu honestly might be the best I've had. I would order that every week if I lived in the area. The spice level was perfect on it with ample amounts of pork (I LOVE spicy food and this was exactly what I was looking for, my partner took one bite and started to sweat so be careful lol). Got 2 for $8 which seems excessive and on the menu just said "egg rolls" so we were not sure on quantity but being 2 it technically was "rolls" but again, nothing particularly great about them. Not sure if it's representative of their food served in restaurant, but can say based on this I probably will never find out. Fucking love this place…read more If there is a highly rated small plates place in a location we are visiting, you can count on us to find it. We walked literally thirty minutes to this place from our hotel. It was a lovely walk in early August. We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Thursday (we are old now) and we were seated immediately. Service was excellent. Ok so they have a fantastic cocktail menu. I appreciate any cocktail menu that is more complex than vodka and cranberry juice but this takes it to another level of creativity. I also like how they name them with numbers. It's so much easier to say "I'll have a 42" rather than "I will have a duperbeamerscicle". I started with an "88" with pisco, rose-poached strawberry, amontillado sherry, verjus, rose port, and pink peppercorn. Served in a highball glass and garnished with berries. Very refreshing. GF started with the "91" mezcal, passion fruit, poblano, pineapple, amaro, lime. Gorgeous and chic. Very strong, smoky flavor. When in Rome, so the cheese plate did not feel like an option. Four fantastic cheeses were served with very tasty candied nuts, some jam business, grapes, and some of the best bread I have had on a cheese plate. Thick, soft, and fluffy. Paired absolutely perfectly with cheese. Only complaint is that I wish there was more of it. I haven't had deviled eggs in a minute so I went wild and also had the chili crisp deviled eggs which were SPECTACULAR. I also got the Egyptian fried cauliflower which is served on a smear of harissa and lemon tahini. Very flavorful. Star of the show tbh was the tagliatelle with squash, tomato, these fried cheese crisps. The noodles were al dente and SO GOOD in such a wonderful sauce. GF also got the steak, she says "very good seasoning". I helped her out with the kimchi pancake. Wonderful. Such a great sauce. For our second round of dranks we both went with the "77" makrut lime vodka, tamarind, bird's eye chili, cilantro, lime, lemongrass. Very tamarind forward. Very unique. I can see why it's our server's favorite drink on the menu. The desserts looked really good (something with sticky rice I think it was a cocktail and a bread budding that looked fantastic) but we just weren't feeling it.
