Food, service, and atmosphere were all fantastic! We were greeted immediately when we walked in. The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon, so the greeter gave us some menus and let us know we could order and he'd find a table for us ASAP. We got to the counter and the cashier told us it would be a 45 minute wait. We accepted this and ordered anyway. We picked a curry, a noodle dish, and a Thai beer each. The cashier was very friendly. The original greeter found us a table almost immediately after we paid and mentioned the beer is especially nice over ice, so we took his recommendation. Beers came quickly, but food did take at least a half hour, as the cashier mentioned. Table and dining room were clean and nicely decorated with warm lighting and relaxing music. Bathrooms were also clean. Food was very good and flavorful. The portions were decent. We were full, ate most of our dishes, and didn't take anything home. The original greeter came back and checked on us while we were eating. Service was fantastic throughout the experience. The food was pricey, but aligns with other Thai restaurant prices in the area. They take online orders for pick up, (which i LOVE), but they fill up fast and you often have to wait over an hour if you are lucky enough to get your order in.. but it's WORTH IT! This time i had Pad Kee Mao with chicken and added scrambled egg. The portion is huge. 2+ meals for me. Might be new go-to selection. The papaya salad was the best papaya salad I have ever had in my life. It opened my eyes. It was crispy and refreshing and the perfect amount of flavoring and spice. I think about this salad often. I liked the flavor of the chicken satay; it was good. However, I was not the biggest fan of the red curry. The buffalo chicken rangoons were fun. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Being Lao, I was hesitant to try this place. I went in expecting the Lao food would be more traditional central Thai food. And thank goodness that was not the case. The Lai food was actually Lao food. Although sweeter than how I usually make my own, we ordered the papaya salad level 3 spicy which was not too spicy but had some heat. The last sausage was good and flavored well with just enough balance of lemongrass. The restaurant is bright and clean. It is small and has limited seating. Went to Sweet Basil for a friend's birthday dinner before we headed to the movies. The place was so cute and hip! I've never been to a Thai restaurant that wasn't like an old hole-in-the-wall type feel, and this one was so cute and fresh! You order at the counter and they deliver to your table which is nice and convenient and fast. I got the Tom Yum soup with Shrimp, it was delicious and had HUGE chunks of vegetables and shrimp, could barely fit it on the spoon! For my entree I had the Pad Kee Mao with Beef and it was also so good, so much flavor! I did 3 stars for both, but definitely could have done 4. Ok this is SO worth the hype and the drive (20 min for me). I got pad kee mao and mango sticky rice - my only regret is not dining in!! The pad kee mao with shrimp is SO good. I'm fairly picky with my Asian food too as someone who grew up on the coasts. The noodles were nice and flat and the sauce was delicious. I got 3 and it's supposed to be spicy, but I have a decent heat tolerance so I'd say it's more like a mild. The mango sticky rice is to die for and a must get. I thought I'd be able to split the noodles into two meals, but it was so good I kept eating them!!! I can't speak to the service but the staff were super friendly when I came in to pick up my order. We were pleasantly surprised. The crab rangoons were some of the best I've had in the city. The three noodle dishes were all very good. Tried Sweet Basil as a friend recommended it to me, it did not disappoint! We called to order takeout - a friendly heads up, during busy hours it can take an hour + to have food ready, so need to be patient. The sesame chicken was my absolute favorite. The flavor was delicious and it was a big portion (had it over two meals). We also tried the Jeow Bong fried rice, lemongrass chicken, Rama Delight, and mango sticky rice. I was a big big fan of the flavor of the fried rice and lemongrass chicken; the Rama Delight was okay- a healthy option but was almost too plain for me personally. The mango sticky rice is a delightful end to my meal- definitely worth a try! The mango was so fresh and the sauce/rice combo went together perfectly. The dining area itself is smaller but very quaint, staff were all efficient and kind when I picked up my order! I am so happy we decided to venture out of Milwaukee to try this place as we have been looking for good Thai since being a transplant. This is my type of restaurant as it's not all about the ambiance and frills but more so about amazing food and a family atmosphere. You walk in and up to the counter to order and they will be super helpful guiding you if it's your first time. I once again question why I do not make the 45 minute drive to Sweet Basil more often. Today's visit exceeded my expectations. I was pleasantly greeted by Drew at the register. He took my order, gave suggestions, and made sure my meal was handled appropriately and gluten free. Food was excellent as always. I love their spring rolls. They're so fresh. Very cute, bright and clean restaurant that gives you a homey vibe when you walk in. We did a takeout dinner but liked the interior of the restaurant a lot. We got papaya salad, chicken egg rolls, pork skewers, pad Thai and Jeow Bong fried rice and enjoyed all of them. The packaging & presentation were both very good. The overall impression was refreshing, not too greasy nor sweet Thai food at reasonable prices. The pork skewers were flavorful, juicy with the lovely hint of lemon or lime taste that might come from lemon juice or lemongrass (I don't know). The egg rolls were on the saltier side but still crispy and full of homey fillings. The papaya salad came in a generous amount and included a heavy use of fish sauce (I like it but hubby doesn't) in the recipe. I thought it tasted very refreshing after mixing with the Vermicelli noodles. Pad Thai remained chewy while being not greasy or too sweet. A very successful pad Thai indeed! The jeow bong fried rice was interesting. We got medium heat and while in the first a few bites it tasted like soy sauce fried rice, it got better and more addicting as the spicy flavor kicked in. Being on Keto, I was trying to find out whether a specific sauce was sugar heavy (for their September special, spicy beef salad), and he pretty much had no idea but told me it wasn't sweet at all. Well, it was a gochujang based dressing, which is laden with sugar, though the end result is not too sweet. Just so you know. Like, if you're on keto. lol Hubby had the pad Thai - a little spicy, and was surprised at how red it was. But it wasn't very spicy at all. I think the red color was from something other than spicy peppers. Very good taste. Tom Kha soup was one of the best I've ever had. Period. House fried rice with shrimp boasted huge shrimp pieces. It wasn't the best fried rice I've had, but good, and they really didn't skimp out on the ingredients. Would definitely revisit. Recommended to me by a friend from Taiwan! It's tucked into a little strip mall. Not a ton of seating so the wait can be long, but it's so worth it! A lot of people get takeout too. We ordered the lod chong drink (amazing), chicken satay, jeow bong noodles, pad kee mao, and the mango sticky rice (bomb). My husband has been wanting to come here and to be honest, I didn't. I told him it was a chain restaurant but I'm glad he dragged me there but it's nothing that I said it was! The line inside built up fast and that was the turning point for me where I thought, I might wrong about this place. There is limited seating, to-go seems to be what a lot of people do. But we got seated and waited! When the first dish came out, teriyaki beef skewers, they looked like bbq and we got super excited! They were sooo good.
