Wow! I absolutely loved my experience at Hungry Sumo. This place had been on my radar for sushi for quite a while. We went on a Friday night around 6pm and the wait was ~1 hour for 2 people. They do not take reservations so definitely go early! The restaurant is small, but gives a comfy cozy vibe with the dark atmosphere. Whenever I eat something from Hungry Sumo, I fall in love all over again. I have never had anything bad here! I love the appetizers, noodle entrees, sushi, etc. I usually order take-out from here but tonight I decided to dine-in with my mom. My mom is vision-impaired and walker-dependent. When we arrived, Alex greeted us and opened the back for us to go through, so my mom didn't have to use the front steps. He also walked us to a table, made sure the table was stable, and held it for us as my mom sat down. He was very helpful, patient, and kind. He also walked us to the restroom and held the door. Our waitress, Becky, was also very nice and provided great service. We ordered the veggie gyoza appetizer, the veggie delight entree, Sumo pork buns, a Spider roll, and for dessert we shared the chocolate and green tea mochi. Definitely a must try for everyone! I've been hearing such great things about this place and it lived up to those expectations. We were told it gets busy for dinner right away and with no reservations we decided to go right at dinner opening time. There was a line forming outside the door before they opened but luckily we were second in line and got seated right away. The staff is very friendly. They check on you often without rushing. Multiple people greeted us and then thanked us on the way out. All of their sushi options sounded delicious. I got the Very Crunchy. It was served with a fun presentation over dried ice. The sushi itself tasted amazing, even though sushi isn't my favorite. I got the Pad Thai for an entree and I honestly think it's some of the best Pad Thai I've had in a while in Milwaukee. This was my second time going to this restaurant and the food quality still remains great! The ambiance inside was quite nice and the restaurant itself is very well decorated. The service was also great and very prompt. It seems like it is quite a beloved restaurant in Bayview as we had to wait 30 minutes to get seated on a Thursday night. I got the crispy shiitake bao buns which were $11. The buns were soft and the mushrooms were seasoned well and crispy. It's hard to find a good ramen spot around town, everywhere just tastes watered down. However, ever since my fave spot for ramen stopped serving ramen, I had to find a different place. Hungry Sumo is the only place that satisfies my ramen craving in Milwaukee (and also serves pretty decent rolls as well). I've only been here twice since living here, but I definitely need to come here more often. Their tonkotsu ramen is the only one I get and I've never had a bad bowl before. During our most recent visit here, we (2) came around 12:30-1pm on a Saturday and was able to be seated quickly. We shared a Hottie Hottie (4.5/5, delicious and recommend if you like a kick) and ordered the tuna poke, which was a lot tastier than it looks, and the tonkotsu ramen. Top recommendations include the poke bowl ($17.95) which was a flavorful combination of seaweed salad, three types of poke, and veggies, AND it comes with a side of miso soup! Both ramen bowls were tasty! The spicy miso ramen ($17.5) had a generous cut of pork with minimal fat and definitely earned its name as spicy. Yasai ramen ($16.5) is a veggie friendly option which we love. Come hungry, leave full! Although, expect a wait. We got there around 5:45pm on a Friday and had an hour wait. We overheard at 6:45 that it was a 2 hour wait!! Now is it worth the wait? YES!! We started with the Pork Buns, which are absolutely worth the hefty price. Then we had the crab Rangoon which were the best I've ever had. Every bite had the cream cheese filling and the dipping sauce accompanied the rangoons perfectly. Now for the meals. The Pad See Eiw I will quite literally be dreaming about. One of my favorite bites in Milwaukee. However, I was not impressed with the teriyaki chicken. It needed double the sauce!! The spicy crab roll was fine but I've had better sushi in Milwaukee. I am a ramen connoisseur and sadly have yet to have amazing ramen in Milwaukee. While this was creamy and the noodles were good, the broth was just too heavy and thick. The umami was strong and could be of people's preference but not for me. The egg was overcooked and not as jammy, and the pork was okay. Great portion of meat compared to most places, but was honestly just an extra tender pork chop, not the traditional chashu pork cut of meat. We tried going a few weeks ago, but got there too late, so I am happy we were able to get a table this time around! I got the Thai Iced Tea to start and it was sooo delicious! It was brewed well and had just the right amount of floral flavor and sweetness. Always a tasty option! I got the Okie Dokie roll and the Sweet Monster roll. The Okie Dokie roll had something refreshing to it, which was an interesting combination with the chewier octopus that was the main protein of the roll. The roll was also topped with some tasty yellowtail and plenty of avocado that gave it some fatty flavor while keeping it light overall. Though it is listed as spicy, I don't think I remember feeling any heat at all. The Sweet Monster roll was a thicc and dense roll to contrast my first one. Fried crab, cream cheese, and mayo?! This roll had me feeling quite full after a few bites! It was quite delicious, though it did make me feel a bit heavier than I expected. They served it with the crab's claws(?) which was quiet tasty and fun to crunch on afterwards. My lady got the Negi-Hamachi and Drogon rolls for her set. While on the simpler side, the Negi-Hamachi was such a delicious roll with the fatty yellowtail tasting quite buttery to me. No notes on its simplicity other than it was my favorite! For my girlfriend's favorite, the Drogon roll had a nice sizable tempura in the center and lots of crunch overall! The sauce was also quite tasty and did not overpower any portion of the roll. Despite it being fried, this roll did not feel as dense as my Sweet Monster, so it was quite the treat for a cooked roll! The food was pretty good and exceeded my expectations despite seeing all the positive reviews. The staff was very friendly and kind with giving updates on our food and helped make our meal an enjoyable experience. Hungry Sumo is one of my favorite Sushi restaurants in the Milwaukee area. The dining area is small and intimate so I always suggest going a bit early (or calling ahead if you have a large group) if you want to be seated right away as they don't take reservations. That being said, the staff does an excellent job at efficiency when dining in. The staff is always so kind, efficient and attentive which I appreciate. They are also very knowledgeable when it comes to allergy awareness too which we appreciate as my s/o is allergic to shrimp. My favorite rolls include the Philly and any of the sweet potato roll variations (I'm obsessed with the caramel sauce on top)! They do a fabulous job at creating sushi boards that are colorful, artistic , and delicious! The Thai iced tea is my favorite non-alcoholic drink if you are looking for a sweeter drink option otherwise their Sake options are always a great option too. Each of the apps we tried I would also recommend especially the Miso soup and edamame. Would recommend trying this spot out if you are looking for a wide variety of sushi rolls to choose from and other amazing variety of food choices! 10/10 read more

Went there last night for the first time, I took my friends who have also never been there and it was excellent. The service was very quick and attentive. The food was very good, I had the special which was a duck ramen and I had a few Bami's. It was cooked perfect and the ramen was delicious. The ambiance was very chill and quiet which I enjoyed. They were SO cheesy and had a great ratio of cheese to wonton. They are some of the best crab Rangoons I've ever had (crab Rangoons are my fav food). Next, we ordered the sumo pork buns. Again, these were very very good. The pork was a little fatty but that's how pork belly is. We decided to share the very crunchy roll. It was one of the best sushi rolls I've had. Guess who's back, back again! Stopped by again to try more! They were not as busy as our first visit and we were seated right away! Glad we were able to have some our favorites and tried some new. We split a bottle of wine and enjoyed the Sumo Pork Buns (just as much as we did the first time), and some miso soup to get us warmed up! For sushi we enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Crunchy roll, Godzilla roll, Spider, and the Smoky Rocky. The smoky rocky was a hit, one of our favorites, the sweet potato added a nice element to the roll They weren't too busy and I feel like for a sushi place our food came out pretty quick.
