If you are looking for sushi on the south side of Milwaukee, Kyoto is a must stop. We always order a few of the special rolls plus a couple starters. Greenfield and Titanic our some of our favorites. Gyoza and the edamame are also great ways to start your dining experience. Be warned however. The Rickys Maki comes with a raspberry sauce and maybe mango. Unless you like shrimp and fruit combinations, stay away. It's not clear on the menu that it comes with 2 fruit forward sauces and we were disappointed when this roll came covered in them. On a positive note, the recently expanded dining room and bar area can accommodate your larger parties easier. Service is always attentive without being overbearing. We still enjoy it here and are now taking notes on which rolls to stay away from.

Always love going to Kyoto for their sushi lunch special. Two rolls for $12.95 served with soup and salad. Great deal and amazing sushi. Some of my favorite in the area. The service is also always top notch - friendly and quick.

Great experience for our girls night at Kyoto. The waiter was very patient with us trying to make decisions. We got a little bit of everything - sushi, shashimi, orange chicken, etc. everything was super fresh and came out quickly. We will definitely be back for their lunch special

Kyoto is my sushi go-to spot in Milwaukee! The sushi is always on point, Dragon Roll & Tempura rolls are my favorite and their fried rice is seriously the BEST I've ever had. I come here so often they know my name and order. Their service is the best!

This is my go-to take away sushi spot. Clearly they do a ton of take away business/door dash because there were about 10 orders ready on the table as I walked in. I take that as a good sign! I love this 12 piece sushi meal, it lasts me 2 days (I get a few other things as well) and the quality is always spot on. Hamachi is my all time favorite fish and it is always melt-in-my-mouth delicious from here. They're generous with their portions and always quick and friendly.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants! They have great Sunday lunch deals and their bento boxes provide huge portions with a variety of different options! I've been to Koyot 15+ times and service has always been great! For ambience, the restaurant has a japanese theme and the chairs are comfy. This is a real outlet mall gem!

I've been coming here for about 18 years and am not sure what has happened to my once favorite place? Service has really gone down the tubes. We couldn't find our waitress for most of the meal. They expanded the dining room but it was the quietest I've ever heard it during lunch. We always sub an eel and avocado roll for our roll. Normally it's a dollar. The waitress was going to charge us $3. What once was an affordable lunch is now up to &45. For that price we can go to AYCE.

Update: They created a waiting area in the front, so easily 5 stars now! Keep up the great work, Kyoto!

Date of visit: March 30, 2024 A friend took us here for dinner as she had raved about it on a visit a couple weeks prior. She warned us that it was very unassuming and not fancy being in a strip mall but that wasn't an issue for us at all; the bigger issue is that we weren't huge fans of the food. Service was very good, staff came by frequently to ensure that we had what we needed, though I would have appreciated a more proactive approach to clearing dirty plates and dishes. Speaking of the dishes, they were quite nice, adorned with the restaurant's name and logo, a nice touch that I would not have expected from such an establishment. Turning to the food, the miso soup was nothing to write home about. It certainly wasn't bad, but it also wasn't the least bit memorable. I also was a bit underwhelmed by the green tea (both of these items made my nostalgic for the Yen Ching of old!) that they served. I am a big fan of crab rangoon but they put onions in it here, which was odd and disconcerting, I have never experienced this. Scallions, of course, but not plain onions. Thumbs down on that one. A highlight was the Orange Chicken! A wonderful, crispy shell protected a moist, succulent chicken breast that was good the first night and nearly as tasty a couple days later for lunch!

My go to sushi spot! Always fresh, great service and comfortable atmosphere. The best in the area.

I tried sushi for the first time here with a friend & loved it! To this day I continue to come back & enjoy it every time. I get cooked sushi because I still don't feel brave enough to try raw sushi, maybe someday. The sushi rolls I got here are the shrimp avocado roll & spicy crabmeat roll.

Good place for carry out. On time. Conveniently located off the highway. There's not many Asian restaurants I'd the area with this quality or sushi. Crunchy California Roll light tempura ring. Somewhat large, cream cheese Spicy Tuna Roll good. Teriyaki Chicken Roll chicken a little tricky in sushi. Good with soy sauce. Spicy Asian shrimp really good. Sauce not thick. A little kick at the end. The Thai shrimp Currie is great! One of better ones in the area. The teriyaki shrimp doesn't have that much much or a wowing flavor.

    Ask the Community - Kyoto

As of today, is this place open with indoor dining?

Yes, they are open to indoor dining again. They require masks and a temperature check at the door before being seated.

Does anyone know if they have removed some tables so you can have some social distance if you eat in? I know generally seating is pretty tight.

I do not believe they are offering in house dining. Carry out only until further notice.

What time is the all you can eat (sun-Tuesday)? Is it for dinner only or all day?

It is all day, but only on those days you mentioned Sun-Tues and there are several items that have an additional charge if you see a dollar amount next to the item on the all you can eat menu.

Is sashimi included in the all you can eat?

Yes, there are some sashimi choices on the all you can eat menu.

I searched for all you can eat and this place comes up? I went there twice and I don't see all you can eat option

    It's available Sunday to Tuesday

Do you have gluten free options?

I checked with the owner. They don't have gluten free options

Our server took a while to stop by for our drink orders and longer for our lunch order. It then took at least 10-15 minutes after soup/salad for our entrees to come out. I get it if the kitchen is busy but I watched my sushi platter sit on the bar for a while before our server came back to deliver it. He also didn't stop by much - hard to find to grab our bill. That took another 15 minutes. Frustrating as we saw other tables get helped promptly by many of the other servers. While this is a normally good, quick lunch spot, we didn't leave until maybe an hour and a half later. The food was okay but not worth the poor service. I did hear that the chicken hibachi was good but would've been better with yum yum and ginger sauce like what's available at other restaurants. Maybe just a one off but we won't return soon.

The staff was a bit hard to understand and when I explained we were first timers, she slowed down her speaking a bit and that helped. Be prepared to order you full meal right away as they then prepare the ingredients in the kitchen for preparation at the table. It appears to be traditional to be entertained by the chef, which we did expect, however I was not prepared to have a broccoli launched at me without warning. We each were hit in the face which was not a lot of fun. Maybe we could be asked first next time? I know many people enjoy this but we were in the middle of a conversation when the food started flying. Kids will love this! The food was prepared wonderfully well. A medium rare steak was perfect as was the medium one requested. A quick and efficient prep was impressive and there was a large amount of food on our plates before long. They have a happy hour that is really reasonable, M-Th 4:30-6:00. We will also be back to take advantage of that option. You can choose to sit in the traditional dining room or the hibachi area. We really enjoyed the hibachi option just for the pleasure of watching our food being prepared well in front of us. Plenty of parking in this relatively innocuous building near the mini-golf place. But it is worth a visit. The food is worth the reasonable prices.

We were sat around 6:30. I understand they were busy and it is a holiday, so no biggie. We ordered our drinks and we got the soup and salad pretty quickly. Unfortunately we had to wait about 45 more min for our hibachi service to begin. Again, I understand it's busy and a holiday, but communication on wait time would have been appreciated. It looked like there were only two chefs for the entire hibachi section. Also, while we were waiting for the hibachi chef, our server never checked back in on us. We would have liked to order more drinks or maybe an appetizer. Our hibachi chef was super kind and entertaining. However, one consideration for the future is for the chefs to ask or explain before tossing the zucchini pieces or spraying water. I understand that's part of the fun for most guests, but we were with someone from another country and she was very startled and didn't understand what was going on. As a result, she got a few pieces of zucchini on her cute outfit and she was bummed about it. The food was good and I appreciated the cute decorations in the restaurant. I usually get the sushi lunch set, and my husband typically gets the panang curry. We've also tried several appetizers; the gyoza were decent, the fish cakes were tasty, and the tom kha soup is quite good. Prices are a little steep for appetizers. The chicken in the panang curry tended to be rather overcooked, but the sauce is fantastic. The spicy tuna roll is good, the Alaska roll is standard fare, but the Fire Dragon roll was excellent. We also tried the Milwaukee roll and that was good too. My only significant complaint is that the sushi set has increased in price (by removing one of the items you're allowed to get with it). On my two previous experiences, you could get two classic sushi rolls, a miso soup, and either spring rolls or crab rangoon. On this last visit, they've redesigned the lunch set menu and now for the same price ($15.95) you can still get two classic sushi rolls, but then you only get a choice of one side -- soup or fried item or salad item. That's disappointing. They do offer the choice of getting a premium sushi roll instead of the two classic rolls for the same price, or for $23.95 you can get even more (though I don't recall the specifics). So while I previously thought the sushi lunch set was an excellent value for the price, I was bummed that they'd reduced the amount of food you enjoy for the price instead. And as a sidenote, the Thai tea is smallish in size compared to what you can get at other similar Thai restaurants. At $4.50 it's not that great a deal. All that said, I'll be back for that Fire Dragon roll. That thing was excellent.
